Zay Jones drops huge catch. <radio edit>
Bills Pimpin' replied to r00tabaga's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is unfair. I dont hate Tyrod. I think Tyrod is a serviceable mobile QB that lacks accuracy and it showed on this play. It was a corner route and IMO the dude threw it left shoulder and he should have led the receiver to the right in the direction of the route. And if it was an accurate pass and that's where Tyrod wanted to throw it, than that brings up another set of issues IMO. Regardless it's plays like this that are the reasons why Tyrod Taylor will not be the Bills QB in 2018. -
Zay Jones drops huge catch. <radio edit>

Last week it was Clays fault on the interception, this week it's Zays fault on this play. Tyrod makes some good throws but he is an inaccurate passer overall. That's a fact. Plus the offense was pathetic most of the day and he has the ball in his hand every play. He's the best we got but he ain't good enough. -

Shady was on the outside and ran a stop route. Zay ran a corner behind it and the DB has to make a decision. DB went with Shady, therefore the play was Zay which is what Tyrod did. I would assume the throw was suppose to go to the pile on in the endzone which is where Zay was running. Pass was way inside and IMO Zay made Tyrods throw look better than it really was. No way any QB is taught to throw that ball anywhere close to that safety with inside coverage. Terrible, terrible throw by Tyrod. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Off and Running

I'm not sure why y'all are on Shaws ass about that throw. The throw wasn't great. It was high, behind, and hard. And most importantly it was late. I would bet that those 2 practiced that play 20 times and not one time did Tyrod throw that ball where he did in the game. And please don't say I'm giving Clay a pass because I'm not, the ball got on him quick and it shouldn't have. He could have caught the ball. But if he did, it would be a very good to borderline great play by Clay. But regardless if he did (and we all know very well at this point that he didnt) it will always be, at best, a mediocre play and throw by Tyrod. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Off and Running

Wowzers, this is a little over the top. It just so happens that this specific play has a lot of interesting aspects of what many people discuss about Tyrod's deficiencies which keep him from being a $50 million dollar franchise QB in the NFL. It's fun to analyze the frickin play. I will say it again, I don't believe it was a terrible play by the QB, but to put zero fault on him is giving too much credit. It was an average play by an above average quarterback. I mean the dude said it wasn't a great throw in his press conference ffs. Personally I think Zay would have been open a half second later and Clay was open a half second earlier. The entire play only took 5 seconds up to the point Tyrod through the ball. And yes I am nitpicking because Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ben Rothlisberger, Matt Ryan, etc score a touchdown to either Clay or Jones on that play 95% of the time. The difference between a franchise QB and TT is razor thin and I personally think, unlike others on this board, that Tyrod is getting closer to that point. Don't be so sensi.... -
Tyrod was closer to 2.0 than I thought he would be last week. Not "franchise", although I'm not 100% sure what that means other than you kinda know when you look at one. I think McD knows what he has and is going to see how it plays out. Depending on injury, the growth of the WR core and especially any growth of Taylor towards 2.0 and the Bills could be in the hunt for the playoffs deep into the season. Also it possibly could be the year the AFC east is up for grabs. NE defense looks terrible and Brady is 40. All Bills fans should be excited about what they saw last week and the direction the team is headed regardless of what they think of Taylor. To let your opinion of his talents ruin an entire season of Bills football because you are afraid they are going to win too many games is foolish. I would rather root for TT2.0 and the playoffs until it's our of reach.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Off and Running
Bills Pimpin' replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We will have to agree to disagree. I don't ever think he was ever not throwing to Clay on that play regardless of whether it was his first read or not which is debatable. I have no idea how you could know with conviction that it wasn't. Also, IMO Clay was open immediately after his cut and maybe a step after. He was a little late on this throw. The ball should have been in Clays hands when Tyrod threw the ball. And the throw was a bit off. And as I said before, I don't think he anticipated Zay being open a mere split second later. I think if he throws the ball at the I in "BILLS" Zay catches it for an easy TD. Obviously this is nitpicking and I said the play Tyrod made wasn't that bad (at worst an incomplete pass if in Clays body), but 90% of this board conversation is if Tyrod can be a franchise QB and this play is an illustration why he can't. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Off and Running

I agree with this. A better quarterback would have realized Zay would be open by looking off Clay (which he was doing) before he made the "commitment" to throw to Clay. Instead he stared down Clay and the defense was able to react and break it up and pick it off. I am not saying that a better throw would not have been a completion or that Clay should have caught the ball thrown; both of those could be argued either way. I also don't think it was a horrible play by Tyrod. But I do think a GREAT QB sees the defense commitment earlier and anticipates Zay sprinting across the back of the endzone AWAY from the 3 defenders for an easy completion. -
The Defense yesterday was bland on purpose

Ive watched it several times as well and think he played solid, not amazing, but solid. It's crazy how different people watch the same plays and have completely different takes. -

Just watched the condensed game and the Bills D was dominant. By the 4th quarter, the Bills front 4 were getting 5-6 yards push every pass play, was all over Mcnown and the secondary was brilliant hence the 2 picks. I`m not sure I would call this defense vanilla or bland. In fact I think it is quite exotic with the things they can do with the back 7 because of all the speed of those players. They can absolutely fly to the football. I think they compete next week. -
I agree with this 100%. Everyone knows TT is not a great pocket passer but he made plays yesterday with his feet that 1 or 2 QB's in the league could make and those plays were instrumental in the Bills winning the football game. If there is ANY improvement in his pocket presence and ability to use the middle of the field the offense will improve or at minimum stay status quo. It may not be Tyrod Taylor 2.0 but in that first game it was about Tyrod Taylor 1.5 IMO.

Feels normal and good to be an anti tanker
Bills Pimpin' replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a great post. While tanking guarantees you a high draft pick, it does not guarantee you a franchise QB. A talented GM and scouting staff and some luck will get you the QB you want. -
The. Jets. Played. The. Bills. Who many on this board think will win 3 games. You cant have it both ways. The Bills cant be terrible and then destroy any other team in the NFL. For all intensive purposes the defense dominated this game and Marcell Darius, with all of his issues, played 90% of the snaps.

Every game has a different scheme as far as blitzing goes, but most games you will see McD rush 4 and drop 7 in zone coverage. This is especially true when the book on the QB is that he has trouble reading defense and doesnt have the arm strength or accuracy to throw into tight spots which is McCown. Poyer did blitz once and sacked him clean. I do believe there will be some games when McD will rush 5 more often. It is my opinion that the dline held its own and played well. That being said it would be nice if the front four could get a bit more pressure.

Penalties (or lack thereof)
Bills Pimpin' replied to Bills Pimpin''s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The zone scheme definitely helps with defensive holding calls especially when your "shut down" corners get burned every other play and need to hold to keep the other team from scoring (Gilmore and Darby) -
The most telling stat of the game that shows improved coaching... 6 penalties for 50 yards. 2 of them on 64 for holding but I don`t recall a single procedure penalty on the offensive line and I don't recall any Personal Foul penalties. That is very encourahhing.

It's amazing what happens when TT throws to the guys paid to catch the football.
-
Tyrod will be the starter for 4 weeks. He can't run this offense.
-
How about not throwing it to Clay on every down?
-
I think when they look at the film they are going to see that TT has been pretty awful.

Gillislee was junk last night unless inside the 3 yard line. He is a terrible route runner so he is useless in the passing game. He runs like he has cement in his shoes in space. He sucks at blocking so he can't pick up a blitz. He is terrible at play action because he doesn't sell it. He is perfect if you get the ball on the 2 yard line after a pass interference call like you saw last night but other than that he won't be in the game. Tolbert is every bit as good as Gillislee in that situation plus he is a leader in the locker room, plus he is playing for the Vet minimum.

Incentive pay is a very forward thinking way of managing payroll amd maximizing effort in today's manufacturing world. In my company we have instituted monthly bonus structures which has improved production, held employees accountable by both management and peers, and increased morale in the workplace. Our middle management receives a higher percentage than the hourly staff but all employees benefit from the program. While we have only heard of the incentive pay for Shady, I would not be surprised if All players are involved in an incentive program. McD is a young man and this type of compensation is being implemented by younger business owners and managers. I certainly don't know if this is true, but it would not surprise me.
