Arm strength? Ball Placement > Arm Strength. And Ball Placement is one of Allen's biggest issues because his arm is so strong he doesn't know when to dial it down. This was evident at Wyoming, at the Senior Bowl throughout the week in practice and in the Senior Bowl game and it was also evident at the combine on the drill where the WR's had to tap their toes on the sideline. To his credit in the other drills he turned things around and in the 2nd half o the Senior Bowl game he had some nice zip on some passes but there is not enough here to make me feel comfortable at all trading draft capital away and selecting him in the top picks. If I were a team that had the idea of sitting him for two years then fine, I'd take him, probably not in the first five picks. But we are not that team. We are looking to upgrade the QB position via the draft. Allen would not be an upgrade right now and who knows when he'd be.

This doesn't ease anything for me. His first half was atrocious. He turned some things around in the 2nd half but the first half was everything the grades said he was. Add on to that the up and down week he had and this is not a person I want in a Bills uniform. He's nowhere near ready. Then at the combine he did not shine on the chalkboard which matters ALOT.

I say we will not draft a QB round 1
NewEraBills replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As someone else said, only if teams won't trade with us. I think McCarron can be viewed a few ways: 1) competition 2) insurance in case teams don't trade with us 3) "Bridge" if teams do and we draft a rookie early I think it is pretty clear and they are not hiding it, the intention is to draft one of the top rookie QB prospects. -
I didn't see the contract numbers, but if they are what I think they are Murphy better be playing a hell of a lot more than "on passing downs".
-
Someone is not going to make it. Right now you have: Hughes Murphy Shaq Davis Yarborough Odigizuwah Someone is getting cut and or traded.
-
I do too and reading the majority of them they are consistent on some things about Allen: 1) Strong Arm 2) Inaccurate 3) Mechanical Issues 4) High Ceiling 5) Is nowhere near ready and will need to sit and learn For these reasons 2, 3, and 5 there is just no way I can get on board with the Bills trading away all of their draft capital and drafting him. It'll be a massive disappointment for me. We have placed ourselves in a situation where we need someone to be able to play if not day 1 then pretty soon after that. I just think if we draft Allen he's going to be set up to fail. If he went to a team like the Steelers where he could sit behind Ben for a year or two or even the Browns to sit behind Taylor for a year or two or even three then I think it's going to be more beneficial for him going forward. Our situation is just not conducive for Allen's success IMO.
-
The way he played last year you don't know what you are going to get. He had a couple of stand out plays for Baltimore but then he was often injured and didn't show up some weeks. Not sure I'd want him at he and his agents price. I look at it this way. The Ravens WR situation was worse than ours and he was a part of that. Ehhhh..... LOL. Maybe Flacco was/is the problem. I dunno.

What's interesting is they are glad to see him go yet they've been pretty solid against the run. It'll be interesting to see how they look with Butler and Short, especially since Butler is another version of Short.

You don't think people had Kyle Boller rated high? They did. Also with Mayock and Jeremiah, you have to read in between the lines of what they say. Mayock for instance, says that Allen needs a lot of work but it's the arm strength that is going to draw GMs' in. What does that suggest? What it suggests is that they project him in their top 2 off of POTENTIAL, Measurealbes and Arm Strenth ALONE. That's not the QB that I want for the Bills. That's not the QB that this team needs given the situation that we've put ourselves in, ie., needing a day 1 starter. Certainly, Allen has a high floor but all of that language is abstract to me. High floor, low ceiling. None of it lands anywhere. Give me concrete. I'm not jumping on your case as I agree with your overall point. I'm just not for Allen for the Bills. If the Steelers took him I could see him becoming good.
-
They talked with him at the Sr Bowl and the Combine. Maybe they saw enough and was like moving on ... I hope not but it could be the case.
-
Not for me. The Ravens took Boller in the teens and we see how that turned out. I just don't want Allen in a Bills uniform at all. Maybe in the 3rd round but not before that. Let someone else take the risk. We've pinned ourselves in a situation where we need a guy that can come in and play pretty much from day 1 and Allen is not that guy.
-
Maybe not but he'll have to be if we can only trade to 3 or 4 unless they take Allen and if they take Allen over Mayfield I'll be so damn mad.
-
Seeing way too many Dolphins and Mayfield articles. To me, they really like him and Gase probably wants to make a move so they can move on from Tannehill, who has, at best been mediocre when not injured.
-
There is only one other. Kyle Boller and he was taken in the first round by the Ravens after they took Suggs at 9. Boller was hyped up because he threw the ball through a goal post from 50 yards out kneeling on one knee. Brian Billick saw the arm strength and fell in love. But Boller got Billick fired.

Killing the Draft, Free Agency- Not so much....

Also, you can take Hitchens off the LB list. He is going to sign with KC. -
To me completion percentage is telling of the entire offense as a whole. It doesn't necessarily measure accuracy. Sometimes QB's are not very accurate at all but they get bailed out by WR's/TEs. Let me give you a good example. Joe Flacco. As of today, his completion percentage has climbed every year and is up considerably from four years ago. But if you look at him play, he's as inaccurate as he's always been. So completion percentage can be a bit misleading. This is also why I do not want anything to do with Josh Allen. When you combine low completion percentage and watching him miss targets because he doesn't have touch, and ball placement is erratic, it's a recipe for disaster. So when I look at completion percentage, I'm looking at the offense as a whole. When I'm looking at accuracy I'm looking at the QB specifically. Does he have touch, is his ball placement good? Is his anticipation good?

Jets out of QB market in draft?
NewEraBills replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They signed McCown. Not sure about Bridgewater. -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets

Ughhhh, I'm not comfortable with that LOL. They could still try to make a move then. -
Veteran QB: It all comes down to FOLES / MCCARRON!
NewEraBills replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope. If the Bills are trading into the top 5, say pick 3. Forget Foles, McCarron. The latter is still young enough to play for 10 years. The former has too much demand from the Eagles surrounding him. So why waste the cap space on them? Just get a vet that can serve as a mentor and understand that he's not going to be starting long, if at all. -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets

Yeah I would think they wouldn't move up but you never know man. Denver signed Keenum right? They could move up because he's most likely a 1 year rental. I think you still have to watch out for the Phins and Zona trying to move up but at this point, they can't offer what we can. That move to 12 was very critical. -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets
NewEraBills replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's pretty tough to say. I mean if you are the Jets you probably tell Bridgewater man your injury it great that you fought back from that but we have to have insurance. Maybe they go with a 2nd tier guy I dunno. -
If all want a QB we must get to 3 at the minimum. We don't need 2. We just need 3 and we can let everything else work itself out. We get to three and we are promised one of the top 3. That's all that matters. I have my preference but at the end of the day, I'd be satisfied with either Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield. Just get me one of them if you are trading up this far. Anything else is a failure IMO.

The franchise tag and Preston Brown?
NewEraBills replied to mrags's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Edmunds plays a different position. Also, I do think there are other linebackers that could be had. I like Darius Leonard from SC State. Had a great SB week and stood out at EW Shrine game. Much more athletic than Brown. Good instincts. Didn't get a chance to see much of Malik Jefferson so I can't comment except he timed better than Brown. Leighton Vander Esch will probably climb boards and be out of our range. Good instincts and good athleticism. The last guy I like here is Oren Burks. I got a chance to watch him for three years in person so my take, not overly flashy at linebacker, but this past season was his first year playing inside. Last year he played outside and the year prior he played at Strong Safety. He has athleticism. His instincts need to improve and that will come with more playing time at the position.
