NewEraBills replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't be thrilled with the pick but wouldn't hate it either. -
Bills have interest in Seattle DE Frank Clark

To me you try to trade back into the teens with someone and pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd or 4th depending on who it is. If it is the Giants from 17 for instance, you should garner a 2nd and a 3rd. They'd over pay slightly but to me it's worth it. To pick at 17 then have all those extra picks and then give the Seahawks what they need to get pick 21. Then you make the trade for pick 21. To get the teens pick, the pick at 21 and still have a 2nd and 3rd rounder but also giving up an our original 2nd and 3rd rounders = winning. Pick 21 = 800 pts Pick 40 = 500 Pick 74 = 220 Pick 112 = 70 Pick 158 = 27 That should get it done. -
2 picks in the first seems like a given to me...

That's why I quoted myself. Trade back and get the extra 2nd and 3rd so we can recoup for the loss of trading for the extra 1 -
OTAs Phase 1: Let The Process Begin

Man, if we take a Tackle in rd 1 we'll know why. Geez. Maybe it's just the camera angle. But doood LOL. Looks like he should have been in an earlier training program. Like one that could have started 3 months ago. -

Just to quote myself on this, I think if Ed Oliver is off the board, you trade down and try to pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd. Take Jonah Williams, Devin Bush, or Brian Burns. Now with an extra 2nd and 3rd you can trade with Baltimore or Seattle but still have a 2nd and 3rd rd pick. With that 2nd 1st I'd take N'Keal Harry. In round 2, do what I can to get Jerry Tillery and in rd 3 take Dawson Knox or the Sternberger, or this may be a good spot to take whatever we didn't take in rd 1 like OL or one of the remaining pass rushers. The thing is there will be plenty of guys to choose from in every round. 9 days fellas, 9 days. -

Plan A 3 Round Mock 1. Ed Oliver 2. N'Keal Harry move up slightly from 40 3. Titus Howard, Eldgton Jenkins, or Dru Samia Plan B 3 Rd Mock 1. Trade into the Teens - Jonah Williams 2. Trade the extra 2nd from Trade 1, 4th and 5th to Baltimore or Seattle for Pick 21 or 22 - N'Keal Harry WR Arizona State 3. Pick 40 - DT Jerry Tillery ND - or use the ammo from the extra picks and trade up for him. -

Full Intelligent Breakdown of DK Metcalf
NewEraBills replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And just to add one more thing; 7) Currently the Bills have nothing like him. Metcalf's game is physical and he's an open WR even when he's not open. That's the type of guy Allen needs. But alas, as long as we get a top talent whenever we pick I'm not going to be too fussy about whoever it is. If it is OL, I may have preferred something else but as long as it is a top OL talent then I'm good. If it is, DT, LB, CB, DE, WR, TE ect. I certainly have some positions I would be disgusted if we take it at 9 but if we do we do. I'll come around. -
Yes, and I'm thinking he'll probably be used more in that role than as a hand in the dirt player.

I think even when you look at his college tape, Allen's best throws are on the perimeter and the deep post from the perimeter. This is not to say that he didn't throw to the TE at Wyoming, but in 2016 Gentry and Maulhardt were his leading receivers. Gentry by A LOT. His last season at Wyoming his leading guys were Austin Conway and CJ Johnson, nobody else was even close. His rookie season I think Daboll tried to cater to this by featuring a great deal of go routes, deep digs and deep crossers. All of these ran by WR's. So to me, if that's my guy at QB and I'm trying to play to his strengths, I'm not taking a TE in the first round. The passing game seems to be perimeter focused, ie, outside/IN unlike NE who attacks inside out but predominantly inside. If my passing attack is Inside/Out focused then I'd take Hock immediately.

Daniel Jeremiah - Jonah Williams is someone to watch

As an interior lineman I can dig it completely. The Colts entire offense shifted due to Quenton Nelson. But if you want a tackle, why not take Dillard instead? -

I can spot the possible trade partner too. If I'm Beane, I'm working the phone with Baltimore's Eric DeCosta. The Ravens need the picks. They do not have a 2nd and they are a prime trade partner to move from pick #22 in the 1st to get that extra 2nd rounder and we'd most likely have to throw in the 3rd as well. But with 2 Fours, we could still maneuver back into the bottom of round 3. -
Hypothetical Mock, Who would u select @ #9
NewEraBills replied to BillsFan1988's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched that too. I wouldn't be too upset with it honestly. But my thing is you better take Ferguson at 40 because you have to get to the QB at some point. Guys can't cover all day. Here is the thing with White that people fail to realize. If he is versatile, then he could potentially be the pick. People forget, Luke Kuechly actually started off in Carolina at Outside Linebacker. Jon Beason was playing in the Middle. Luke did not move to the middle until Beason got hurt and the rest is history. So I wouldn't rule out White at 9. -
I'm not saying he cannot make any throw. I'm focusing on his best throws. And the best way to get a young QB to improve is to accentuate his strengths immediately. Your premise with the pairings cited is that the NE way is the best way for Josh, and I'm suggesting that Josh and Brady are two different guys. If I had Brady as my QB, I'd take Hockenson at 9 and not look back. But that's not who I have. I have a QB that likes to throw the football down the field, has the arm to do so. I'd be focusing on TE as secondary when I have a QB with those traits.
-
If this is about Josh Allen, which it is, then I I don't like the argument for Hockenson. If Allen's best passes are to the perimeter, which if we study the tape, this is exactly the case, then I'm getting my guy someone that accentuate his strengths. My argument has nothing to do with Hockenson as a prospect but more about Allen. I wouldn't take at TE in the first if my QB's best throws are to the perimeter. Secondly, Beasley, as the slot guy (something that Cam did not have a great presence here), can serve in the Greg Olsen role working the middle.

Full Intelligent Breakdown of DK Metcalf
NewEraBills replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought he had a ridiculous arm, was a good perimeter passer, had tremendous trouble reading defenses, was somewhat athletic and didn't want the Bills to take him. Yes I did not want the Bills to take him because I thought his development was going to take a very long time. I admit it, I did not want the Bills to take Allen but at the same time thought he had ridiculous traits. Admittedly, I didn't want to take too far of a step back from the playoffs. I felt that a QB like Mayfield or Rosen could get us back there, but I even posted in threads about them that we will not take them. I didn't think Allen could get us back there last season. In any case what it taught me film study wise is to look for NFL traits. Look for the traits first, then look at the stat line. Secondly, there were other things that I just couldn't know, like what type of person Josh was and what his leadership looked and sounded like; what his study habits are; what his drive to win is like so on and so forth. These are things that come out in interviews. With respect to DK, I see a lot of NFL WR traits. The injuries are a concern. But other than that, I think he can be special at the position. Agreed and I wish people would stop with this nonsense. I hear and read the Stephen Hill comparisons but to me that's someone who hasn't looked at Stephen Hill nor DK Metcalf. Some of the reasons Hill failed IMO is because while he ran a fast 40, Hill is a long strider which didn't bode well for him getting behind NFL DB's. Secondly, those long strides hurt when trying to learn the route tree. Third, Hill's footwork was average. Hill was the essential definition of a one trick pony. Anyone who's watching critically wouldn't even put these two in the same category. Hill was advised to stay in school and the NFL advisory board projected him as a 3rd round pick. None of this is the case for DK Metcalf, so I wish people would stop with the foolishness. -

Go watch Harry's Pro Day and watch DK at Ole Miss Pro Day. Who looks bigger? They look about the same size to me. That USA today pic of DK was directly after a workout where the muscles are still pumped with a lot of blood. But at his pro day he didn't look nearly that big. -

Full Intelligent Breakdown of DK Metcalf

Well let's be honest though, Gettleman thought Benjamin was a #1 and he did play like a #1 prior to the injury. Beane and McDermott thought they were getting some of that guy and since it was relatively cheap why not take a flier. -

Joe B: 2019 NFL Mock Draft No. 2
NewEraBills replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got to see Polite live vs Vanderbilt. Didn't even notice he was on the field. Actually I would not be surprised by this at all. Gronk has pretty much been the centerpiece of their passing attack since his rookie season. While they still have Edleman, it'll be tough on them without Gronk or someone to that calibur unless they take a premium wide out. The issue however, is that I don't think Brady's arm is good enough to take advantage of perimeter mismatches anymore so they would do better to have a guy that can stretch and put pressure on the seams.
