We've all heard the saying "Defense wins Championships" from time to time. With all the draft discussion about which position the Bills should draft this year (defense or QB), this is a closer look at the past 21 years of regular season Offensive and Defensive ranking of the Super Bowl winners. What I found was that 11 times (52%) a team won the Championship with a defense that out ranked the offense(48%). The average rank of the offensive team was 9.3 and the defensive team was 7.9. Only 4 times out of the last 21 years was the Super Bowl champions defense ranked #1 (19%) while only 3 times was the offense ranked #1 (14%). Elway, Aikman and Young have a combined 6 championships and are already in the HoF, while Farve, P. Manning, Brady, Warner and Roethilsberger have 8 rings and are on their way in the HoF. That's 14 out of 21 years teams won the SB with a HoF'er or possible HoF'er (67%). Include Rogers, E. Manning and Brees (all considered Franchise QB's) and that's 17 Super Bowl wins (81%). Can a team win with a marginal QB? Sure, Dilfer, B. Johnson, Rypien and Simms all have rings. Each of those QB's had defenses that out ranked the offense. So, 4 times(19%) in the last 21 years a defense carried the marginal QB to a Super Bowl ring. I apologize if this has already been posted in the past (I have not seen it), but I hope you enjoy the topic. Go Bills!!!!

Current mocks...Pete Prisco & Chad Reuter say Gabbert
SoggyHog replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would be totally happy with Patrick Peterson especially if we transition back to the 4-3 per Vic Carucci. We have invested 2 high picks in the draft in DL last year (albeit 3-4), throw in Merriman and Batten to our LB corps and our only real weakness would be the secondary (including Safety). Fitz is young still and has not had a full year to learn under Chan, but he is serviceable for the next few years. Simply going back to the 4-3 changes the entire draft. Our needs would then be: CB SS RT TE DE OLB QB RG -
I agree with this comment entirely. jw, you asked a question earlier if we would want the Bills to win the Super Bowl wearing all pink uniforms. I say "Hell No!" I want my team to win the Super Bowl looking good. Further, I don't want them to just "barely" win..... I want them to DESTROY the other team! I want a dynasty. I want other teams to look at the schedule and say "Buffalo? Oh damn!" I don't want to be an automatic W for other teams anymore. I want my front office to be actively involved. I want good coaching. I want Pro Bowl players. I want Hall of Famers again. On top of all of that..... I WANT TO LOOK GOOD! I want the sharpest uniforms in the league. I want to be proud of the Bills again..... from top to bottom! That's what being a fan is all about! Wanting it all! So, stick that in your article and print it! lol (jk)

jw, I have enjoyed your post for the past few years, but a few months ago, you got your nose bloodied in a heated argument on here and you said you would not post here anymore. You came on here today with an agenda. You know quite honestly why people are excited about a uniform change, however, you were condescending in your tone. You are certainly open to your opinion and able to post it here, but you came to this thread with an attitude and no opinion and it showed in your statements. I expect better from you and so do most posters here. There was no name calling, you just simply acted like an A** and I told you that you were acting that way. You can take that defensively or you can....stop......think.....and regroup so we can enjoy your post again. Or you can continue to add nothing to the threads on here and expect to be ridiculed by it. Your choice.

And I suppose you hang on to all the bad memories of all the girlfriends you have had over a 10yr span. No, you wash your hands of it and hope for a better relationship next time. Just like the current unis. 10 yrs of a bad relationship. Wash our hands of any and ALL memories of that time span. Also, if you've ever spent time in the military, you'd know that when you put your uniform on, it's time to get to work. We all want to look good. When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, your production level goes up. Also, better looking uniforms will attract new and potential fans. There are a lot of people that are not football fans and will root for what attracts them most. Why not have better looking uniforms to potentially increase their customer base? Garbage is still garbage when wrapped in newspaper, but it's received warmer when wrapped in nice paper and a bow. Of course it's a marketing ploy....... football is a business. You of all posters on here should know that. And I'm pretty sure you already do...... you're just being an A**!

Does anyone actually think the Bills will beat the Pats*

You have to have something to trade to move up. The Bills don't have anything to trade unless it's package picks. Too many holes to fill to give multiple picks for single picks.

There is a lot of different opinions on some Bills players out there. So, in the spirit of the upcoming offseason, who you would hand Pink-Slips to and who you would keep around for some more OTA's, mini's, and training camp and why. Pink-Slip: McCargo: He's had plenty of time. Wash our hands of his non-productivity. Brian Brohm: Scared to think what happens if Fitzslinger goes down. Practice Field: Maybin: He's only going to be 23 and he's been in 2 different defensive schemes in as many years. Plus, LB is weak for us, we need depth and he's worth another offseason. George Wilson: Have a feeling he will battle Byrd for top FS.

Spiller not doing to Bad!!!
SoggyHog replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you to a point, however, you are not talking about Spiller (which is point of this thread) you are complaining about the pick and the ineptitude of the FO. I think what has most people (including you and me) in an uproar about is the wasting of a number 9 pick on a RB who is not touching the ball, when we didn't "need" a RB and we had/have needs elsewhere. However, my point was and is: he is having a very comparable year to the other running backs who are, and were, on this team. Regardless of where he was picked (and I know 9 was too high) he is having a decent year. He is a rookie on a 4 win team under a completely new coaching staff. It is going to take some time. I doubt most RB's in the league would produce much more on this team this year. -
Spiller not doing to Bad!!!
SoggyHog replied to Throwback Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After reading this thread, I've realized two things: 1. Spiller is doing just fine. People want to compare him to other players on other teams. You can't do that. Every team is different. Every situation is different. The only thing you can do is compare him to other players on the Bills. His numbers are VERY comparable to F. Jackson. Jackson's rushing yds is 4.1 per attempt compared to Spillers 3.8. Jackson has 7 TD's in the last 433 carries (1 TD per 62 carries), Spiller has 65 carries for 0 TD's. Jackson has 28 catches for 2 TD's (6.8yds/per) , Spiller has 22 for 1 (4.7yds/per). Jacksons career punt return navg is 14.2, Spiller 14.6. Jackson's kick return average is 22.2yds/per, Spiller is 24.3. So, the people bitching about Spiller should also be bitching about Freddy. Having a clone of Freddy on this team is good news for me! I'll take an entire team of them! 2. The people complaining about Spiller are not really complaining about Spiller. They are complaining about the Spiller PICK and how he's being used (or not used) in this offense. And they have the right too, however, the pick did make sense. They must have viewed him as the best player available and we all knew Marshawn was only one mistake away from a year off. Also, Spiller on this team made Lynch a trade candidate with a few games into the season. I'm guessing the FO knew this going into the draft. Why else did Marshawn start the first two games? A fourth rounder for Lynch was a steal for the Bills IMO. Sure, a number 9 pick is pretty high for a RB when we had other immediate needs, but it seems to me that winning immediately this year was not on the FO's mind during the draft. Now, that being said, I did not like the pick at the time. I (like most fans) want to win now! However, I will take 4 wins this year with the project of building a playoff team in the near future as opposed to more 7-9 consecutive seasons! (if that project started this past April) -
Thanks?

It wasn't bad calls, it was bad non-calls that buried the Bills early.
-
Where was Kyle Williams today? Anyone see him?
-
This looks like a totally different team from the last 6 weeks. It's annoying.
-
I totally do not get that call. So, no one can touch the kicker even after the kick?
-
-
Spiller looks like and absolute waste at RB. Give the ball to Freddy the rest of the game and let him do his stuff!
-
Hey, at least Moats is having a nice game!
-
sit him down and let him gather himself!
-
What are some of the things that you do to "Guarantee" a Bills win before the game starts or when the game is on the line?
-
I have been reading TBD since 2003 and this thread is "BY FAR" the biggest WASTE of internet ever! That ball was placed perfectly in Johnson's bread basket and he dropped it. Matter of fact, it was one of the nicest passes I've seen Fitz make yet! You are burnt my friend...... BURNT!

Steve Johnson Complaint/Snarky response thread
SoggyHog replied to Since 1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Also, what is he gonna learn from that drop? That he shouldn't drop the ball in the endzone for a game winning TD? Hell, he should already know that! Stupid Comment! Just plain STUPID! -
Steve Johnson Complaint/Snarky response thread
SoggyHog replied to Since 1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It happens? I dont pay game prices for "it happens." He is paid to " CATCH THE BALL!" Plain and simple. He "F"-up and he should hear about it loud and clear! -
a Hey, hang on. Although I dont agree with his post, he is right in a way. He is paid to make catches and he dropped some very important ones today, including the game winner. Maybe we all got a little carried away with him the past few weeks and he did too. He screwed the pooch today and he knows it. Lets see how he responds.
