Lynch is a hypocrite. He cut Tramaine Brock without even a police investigation, no hospitalization, and no case. WIth Foster, the girl went to the hospital with a shattered eardrum, the police have filed charges and yet, he does nothing. I am all for inncoent until proven guilty and would be happy to get Foster if he is innocent, but as far as Lynch is concerned - he was so holier than thou when the Brock thing happened - now with a first round pick - he wants to wait for the legal process to play out.

this is actually very believable. a. there are reports Darnold bombed and Rosen aced the Browns interview b. Giants dont want a QB and want to trade down and yet get a "top 2" kinda player c. Giants dont want Jets to get Darnold d. BIlls dont want the Jets to get Rosen / Darnold e. Giants want additional picks f. Browns also want additional picks for not picking Darnold -
So Roseman and Pederson said two different things at Orlando. Of course, no team is going to announce they are going to trade a valuable trade chip which will only bring its price down. Thus it is expected that the Eagles brass sayings will be biased towards keeping him. But reading what Roseman said - looks like they are still open to trading him, albeit for the right price. Why dont we both just believe what we believe and leave it at that?

hey I am not advocating giving up, let alone the 12th, even the 22nd pick. I am saying let us trade down to 26-31 and then offer that. I suspect the Colts, with all of the draft capital, might offer that much (maybe two of the Jets' seconds if Luck is not yet throwing). Thank you. You summarized my long post into less than 3 lines and still conveyed everything I wanted to. I have to learn to post like you.

Ok we have a ton of draft capital. But the reason I am not feeling very optimistic is that we have major holes, especially with the unexpected retirements. Looks like we either give up our entire draft capital to get one of the 3 or 4 QBs (still not sold on Allen) and go with these major holes or fill the holes everywhere else, but have a glaring hole under center (much as I like McCarron's signing - even I know our first option should be someone else as our long term starter. I have seen mocks popping up having the BIlls not giving up an arm and a leg, maybe moving to 6 or 7 and still getting Mayfield or Rosen. That is probably the best case scenario for the Bills - but if QBs go early, that aint gonna happen. So here is my strategy. Wait for the draft. If the QBs we like are gone by the time of our targeted modest trade up (to 6 or 7), then we trade 12 or 22 down to a late first rounder in the 26-31 range. If it is 12, we should maybe get a 26-28, a second and next year's first and if it is 22, we should roughly get a 26-31 and a second. Then offer the 26-31 to Philadelphia for a first. Howie is on record saying the Eagles did not get an offer of a first for Foles. I feel a 22 may be too high for him, but maybe a 26-31 is not too bad. And it is not that Philly has tons of offers. Getting Foles is likely the only way to simultaneously fill all the holes we have with relatively cheap draft picks and also not have a glaring hole under center. I know some people are not sold on Foles - so I am only suggesting it as the fall back option. If a Rosen or Mayfield falls to 6 or 7, trade up without giving up too much draft capital. If not, trading with Philly for Foles does look attractive for both sides.

***Speculation from Brownsboard.com***

So this only hurts the bills IF the giants are taking a QB. All indications (maybe misinformation, though) are the Giants are going to take Barkley if they can. -

oh man reading this thread makes me sick. how callous are we as a group? the guy had bad news from the doctor about his kidneys and liver which caused him to rethink playing. he did give his all on the field. pray he stays healthy. -
Excellent post OP. Just a suggestion - Maybe you can weight the hit or miss by (inverse of)draft round. Clearly a hit (outperforming draft position) at the top of the draft is way more valuable than a hit down the draft. John Butler did even better at the top of the draft - He really only had one miss - so the weighted percent would be even higher. Missing out with first-rounders like Maybin, McCargo, Losman, Manuel, Mike Williams etc. has hurt us so much.

While Mack can play effectively in both a 4-3 and a 3-4, he is devastating in a hybrid multiple defense. He is more suited to a Rex Ryan Defense than a Sean McD defense. For a traditional 4-3, he may not be worth the price. Just saying.

I am reading all these bargain basement contracts signed by our free agents - Matthews (170K guaranteed on a 1 yr 1 mill deal), Preston Brown (1 yr 4 mill deal), EJ 9 mill Gaines (1 yr 4 mill deal). Why not come back and play for Da Bills at those prices? Why are these guys giving discounts to the other teams (Hometown, Patriots, 0-16 Browns etc.) and not to the Bills? We woulda had great depth at those prices. Or did McBeane consciously decide to move away from these players? I can understand moving away from Preston Brown a little bit (but 4 mill is pretty sweet even with Brown's limitations), but SMH @ Gaines and Matthews.

We are all salivating over a trade-up to get our franchise QB. The question is do we trade up to, say, 2 or 4/5? It all depends on how strongly we want one QB over the others. I have read reams of stuff on each QB, watched NFL Network's Mariucci analysis. watched highlights and a few complete games of 7 QBs - Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Mayfield, Jackson, Rudolph & Tanner Lee. Bottomline - there appears to be consensus on the top 4. And among them, Darnold appears to be the front-runner (notwithstanding a few rumblings regarding Allen). Behind him, the next three, however appear wide open. I dont know how much conviction the Bills brass have in one of these three. A cursory reading of McD's breakfast comments appear to indicate (unless it is a smokescreen) that the Bills will probably go for Rosen, who is the most polished drop-back passer. But how strong is their conviction it is one over the other 2. If you are not convinced about the relative superiority of one over the others - why give up a bunch of assets and trade up to 2? Why not do a more modest trade and choose 4th? In summary, if the OBD brass feels there are two or three thoroughbreds, trade with the Giants. If you think there are 4, trade with the Browns / Broncos. I canot imagine they will take Lamar Jackson - not after trading Tyrod. So if they think Rudolph belongs in the group with Rosen etc., wait till draft day and trade up to 6 or after depending upon how the draft plays out.

gotta break an egg to make an omelette kinda thinking. We will have a few years where we underpay the QB and can afford to pay arguably a top 3 wideout 16 mill a year, no? Heck, Sammy got 16 a year and Robinson 14 a year man. OBJ worth 16 a year easily - just Giants are so capped out partly due to Eli's, Olivier Vernon's and Solder's salaries. a little revisionist history, no? I didnt hear anything bad about Sammy's attitude during McBeane's time. The option decline was primarily due to his inability to stay healthy - nothing about attitude man.

Just to complete the thought use our 3rd rounders this year to draft an ILB (say a Darius Leonard or a Malik Jefferson) and an offensive lineman (say Connor Williams / Martinas Rankin). And get a backup RB / CB / STers in the later rounds / UDFAs making it as complete a football lineup as we have seen in recent years. The only cost to this plan is no #1 next year - but I feel it will be worth it.
-
Given the price paid by the Jets (which was too much IMHO), just including draft picks from this year is never going to clinch it in a trade-up with the Giants. Clearly the sticking point will be the inclusion of next year's #1. I am wondering if a trade like this will get the job done. Bills trade #12, #22, # 53, #56, next year's #1 and Jerry Hughes for #2, and OBJ. Giants get a replacement for JPP. And anyway, they are shopping OBJ. By trading him to the Bills, they at least keep him out of the NFC. Bills, besides getting their QB of the future (not named Darnold) make up for their loss of extra draft capital by instantly turning their wideout weakness into strength with OBJ. With the abundance of cap space next year, they can easily structure an OBJ extension. And given OBJ's price, it is not like they have a steal going forward with him. It is not like the last four years. It gives them considerable Cap breathing room as well.

Speculation...Hughes to Giants???
IgotBILLStopay replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mentioned Hughes to GIants a couple of days ago - but cannot find the post now. I agree that getting Hughes to the Giants is likely.
