Was a fly on the wall when NFL executives (level just below GM) from 2 different teams and an agent were chatting. Neither of the two teams need a QB, but, given Baker's success in the NFL, the three of them were quite sure that Kyler Murray is going to be a top-5 pick in this draft. They were saying he can do things that even Baker cannot do. Relevant since most mocks have him outside the top 10 as of now. A run on the QBs will be good for us when we do not need a QB - either it will leave us a top 5 talent at 9 or some team will want to trade up with us.

No doubt Brown has acted as a bit of a diva, but from where I sit - Ben Roethlisberger and Tomlin have not been exactly blameless. You just dont go on public radio and call out your pro-bowl WR. Also, it appears Tomlin has let Ben have a run of the place and instead of putting an end to childish behavior on both sides, by actively siding with Ben over AB and painting AB as a quitter, he has exacerbated the situation.

Jarvis Landry World Record

Ha! but not really. Still got Home Run Throw Forward, Lindell missed FG + Bledsoe sack fumble gifting the Jets our playoff spot, McKelvin Fumble on MNF ... Not easy being a Bills Fan:) -
Not sure this is true. Brown, Ragland, Dareus, Glenn, Watkins, Darby, Gilmore (FA), Woods (FA), Goodwin (FA), even Tyrod not really old or talentless, no? That said we were definitely not doing well in maximizing their talent. Also we were heading for Cap purgatory - there was no way we could sign Gilmore. So, on the whole, McBeane have done well. But it is a stretch from that to say Bills were old AND lacked talent pre-McDermott. The fact we couldnt get past 8 wins says more about Rex's coaching fit than our roster's age and talent. With the exception of Tyrod - all the others have not disappointed in a different coaching environment.

First, later rounds of the NFL draft usually tend to be senior heavy. If an underclassmen is a borderline late round draft pick, he is usually advised to stay one more year in College (unless there are discipline or academic issues). So one should typically look for the first few rounds to assess if a draft is really senior heavy. Second, the primary reason for a senior heavy draft 2 years ago is that the Bills sent a big contingent to scout the Senior Bowl (McD had just been hired that January - so he was still catching up with scouting). The three picked in the first 3 rounds were Tre, Zay and Dawkins - who all practiced well during Senior Bowl week. In other words a senior heavy draft was out of necessity (and Beane was not involved) Third is last years experience with Allen, Edmunds and Phillips. Allen was a QB and one of the top 4 consensus players - With two off the board, I think the fact that he was a Senior was not particularly relevant in his being picked. Edmunds, of course is an underclassman. Phillips actually had a year more of eligibility remaining - so technically though he practiced at the Senior Bowl - he was a junior. So one senior out of three is probably par for the course in the first 3 rounds and that too, being a QB, is not because of any Senior bias. Based on the above, I am not sure there is a strong senior bias in McBeane drafting. That said, the one thing that we can conclude is that the Bills do send a big contingent to the Senior Bowl game and treat it as important. So they have done the homework on Risner / Sweat / Deebo for sure.

Jarvis Landry World Record

Not sure the 2017 Zay would get 40 with both hands:) On second thought, maybe he could if he wears an opposite team jersey and has Peterman throwing to him. -
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/super-bowl-2019-jarvis-landry-brady-quinn-set-new-guinness-world-record-on-cbs-sports-hq/ Cousins and Antonio Brown also held the record at one point with 40 one handed catches in a minute. That duo also hold the record for behind the back catches in a minute: https://www.redskins.com/news/kirk-cousins-broke-another-guinness-world-record-with-antonio-brown-16847467

Didn't realize it is not guaranteed till regular season. If true, your argument makes sense. But that makes a trade also more likely since a team trading for him has nothing to lose.

I voted to release him.

Hearing Broncos will let Matt Paradis test FA
IgotBILLStopay replied to Patriot Killa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is true. However, the key point is that if a Paradis or Morse signing was a likely outcome, they would not tell Long he will compete for the starting Center spot. If you do that a few times (tell a FA he is going to compete to start and then sign a surefire starter over him), you will lose credibility. This is a multi-period game. -

https://www.buffalobills.com/news/bills-today-how-buffalo-impressed-recent-free-agent-signee-spencer-long Long has also been told he will compete for a starting position. Doubt Long will compete for a starting spot with a Morse or a Paradis. So maybe the Bills have moved on from Morse / Paradis. But, based on the fact that only $1.2 mill of Long's contract is guaranteed - the Bills may still be looking for another Center. Mixed signals. -
Pre-injury, the guy was really good. McD saw him vs. Cam Newton firsthand in the Super Bowl. He is a bit of a bully on the defensive side. He and Von Miller have been credited with messing up the young Broncos QBs Paxton Lynch and Trevor Simian in practice so much. And teams do run a lot against the Broncos - so he has experience in stopping the run. At this point, I dont want him to take away from the development of Edmunds and Milano - but if he is willing to accept back up money and be happy as a back up - may not be a bad idea to bring him in to mentor our young LBs. Bonus reason to sign him: https://www.denverpost.com/2017/08/02/tom-brady-dissed-broncos-linebacker-brandon-marshall/

Boy does that look bad even to a Beane fanboy like me. Had forgotten that Hyde and Poyer were pre- Beane signings. Star was a bit overpaid but was not too bad a signing. Jury is still out on Murphy. And Beane’s trades have brought in Gaines (great) Matthews (bad known injury) and Benjamin (bad known injury plus slow). Beane did do decently in the draft - so it is not all bad. Also he has been good at getting value for players he traded away ( like Tyrod). Also he was handicapped by the cap situation. But as you point out he does have something to prove in FA evaluation. Here is hoping he homers this off season.

Yes, it appears only 1.2 mill of Long's 13 mill deal is guaranteed. No wonder the Bills signed him early. To lock him up with just 1.2 mill in a position of absolute need - that has the potential to go down as one of the best off-season signings. That also means a top flight center (FA or Draft)is still very much in play. -
Could become the Gronk to Josh Allen’s Brady.

Bills may have already moved on from Paradis. Otherwise the Spencer Long signing makes no sense. Will we see a Tyrod - Roman pairing again?
IgotBILLStopay replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are going for logic, my attempt at humor sadly failed. corrected for ya. He was the best QB the Buffalo Bills had since Doug Flutie left till Josh Allen arrived. Little home bias here please. -
Joe Marino/TDN Pre-Combine 7-round Bills mock draft
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would only be positive reinforcement if "this expert" has actually watched the film. But I doubt it since it is a full 7 round mock and it is unlikely he has watched that much film at this stage. It is still early even for a 3-round mock, let alone a 7-round. -

Since you asked? stealing from a fellow poster 1. Some maybe wondering if the Bills would be interested in bringing him back as JA's backup. 2. Maybe to reinforce the fact that the Bills should have asked for more compensation in the trade with Browns since it will be proof that he is not widely regarded as useless. 3. Maybe I (or others on this board) am (are) interning as a junior capologist with the Ravens and it is a good idea to run this by yall first before presenting it to my (their) GM 4. Bored -
Joe Marino/TDN Pre-Combine 7-round Bills mock draft
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very underwhelming - will be a little disappointed with that draft. Arcega-Whiteside and Nauta appear to be reaches at this point - but I have gone more by experts' draft round grades and havent really seen their actual film or stats. -
Why will it happen? Post-Flacco, Ravens need a backup for Jackson. I think they can do a lot worse than TuhRod Taylor. Greg Roman (their OC) is familiar with him (and in 2015 Roman determined that Tyrod beat out Matt Cassell and EJ Manuel in training camp - so he clearly thinks well of Tyrod). Additionally Jackson is just a more dynamic version of Tyrod - so the offensive scheme in Baltimore can remain the same. Also Tyrod spent his formative years in the league in Baltimore. Why will it not happen? Anthony Lynn is also a big Tyrod fan - so it is possible Tyrod burnt some bridges with Roman by embracing Lynn after the former's firing.

Ravens trading Joe Flacco to Broncos
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok not as bad as I thought. Actually $0 of Flacco is guaranteed and Keenum "only" has 7 mill guranteed. So walking away from Keenum will "only" cost em 10 mill of 2019 cap space. So Denver might still be drafting a rookie QB. -
Ravens trading Joe Flacco to Broncos
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very surprising move. Wonder what the price was. At this point, Baltimore was likely just happy to get rid of his contract. The smart strategy for the Broncos was to draft a rookie this year or next (actually draft one last year when they had a top 5 pick). But Flacco being there does not help with either. Drafting a QB high to sit behind Flacco only hurts the rookie's development and clearly they wont be tanking with Flacco to get a shot at Tua. It is a short term strategy that will keep em in cap hell. -
Cardinals tweet their support of Right Josh
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe. The key point is "May not be". I remember the year Goff and Wentz went 1-2. Very few mocks in January were projecting that they go early. It only takes two teams to be interested in a QB for the bidding war to bring #1 in play. So why give up on that option to trade? Options are valuable:) -
If he is cut, I expect Belichik to sign him on a short "prove it" deal for cheap.
