The Bills Will Be Everyone's "Sleeper" Pick
IgotBILLStopay replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have certainly had a decent FA season with Morse, Gaines, Nsekhe, Kroft, Spain and the three WRs all signed to reasonable deals and complementing each other. With a good draft (DL, TE, OL, RB, LB Depth), we would have a competitive team on paper. McClappy, Allen and Edmunds still have to win on the field. But McD's past record (how he spoilt Beane's plans by making the playoffs in 2017 and also overperformed relative to expectations last season with the gutted roster) makes me very optimistic. Everyone's Sleeper Pick perfect oxymoron. In that vein, Bills gonna be terribly good this year. -

Reach at #9. Steal at #40. -
There are two reasons to expect an improvement. First the talent upgrade - as pointed out above Morse, Nsekhe, Waddle and even Long could have been Bills' starters last year purely on talent. The talent upgrade is particularly for pass blocking and I am still unsure how good these guys are in run blocking (that has always been Spain's weakness). Second is continuity. Last year we did not have a set line and were subbing guys in and out through the season. Now hopefully, a clear rotation will be established in TC and that should see some benefits. People forget that knowing each other's tendencies is crucial for a disciplined and effective OLine.

Will the Bills move up for Quinnen Williams?
IgotBILLStopay replied to Rebel101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
40-yard dash 3-cone Short shuttle Vertical Broad Bench Donald 4.68s 7.11s 4.39s 32″ 116″ 35 reps Oliver 4.73s 7.15s 4.22s 36″ 120″ 32 reps Ed Oliver played nose tackle in a 3-4 with almost no help from the other linemen. He was triple teamed on many plays. In McD's 4-3, his speed will be a huge asset as a 3-tech. That said, I dont disagree that we should consider moving up if we get a chance at Q. Williams. He is a beast and will also fit us beautifully. Just wanted to say that if Q. Williams is Plan 1, Oliver is not a bad Plan 1A -
Thinking ahead Trey White
IgotBILLStopay replied to Franchiseneedsme's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with front loading contracts is that players have a short memory. It appears to them like they are playing for peanuts and forget all about the signing bonus. Julio, Antonio, Leveon etc. are all examples of that. That said I do like the idea of signing him long term if we get a discount and if we don't pay a bunch early on. -

Q. Williams to Bills in CBS Mock Draft
IgotBILLStopay replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the exact same first 9 I had in my no-trade mock. I too have Q falling to Bills at 9. I too think Raiders sneak in to grab White at 4 ahead of the Bucs making Bucs take Bush. Probably more likely Bucs trade down if White is no longer available. If Q is taken by Bucs trade down partner, we go with Ed Oliver. -
We do need a defensive end. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26415157/source-browns-ogbah-no-shows-expects-trade 1.35 mill - so very reasonable salary and that too is not guaranteed. Natural fit for a 4-3 defense - can line up at either end - he is quick enough to handle left tackles and large enough to hold right tackles at bay. Only problem is that he is a bit inconsistent. I think a 5th or lower draft pick should do it - will be a Ragland like trade. Also what about Duke Johnson at RB? He averaged 5 yards an attempt in limited opportunities and is on the outside looking in after the Kareem hunt signing. Our Rb situation (with the oldies) is quite attractive to people looking for playing time.

I am not so sure about the Raiders. While the Raiders do appear to like Q, they are not even set yet on a DT since Hall and Hurst did more than adequately. They are quite smitten with Devin White. And even if they decide to go DT, there are still people there more in love with Ed Oliver than Q. There is also a small chance, Gruden might go QB. Bottomline 4-8 are unclear yet. While agree with your 1-3 though as of now, there is still a serious possibility of the Giants trading into it to get a QB. I think Detroit is set on a TE. Hope nobody trades up with them. That means we still have a realistic shot at Ed Oliver or Q at 9 or a trade down. Would love to have a trade down with Miami, Atlanta or Redskins for an extra 2nd round pick.

Unpopular Take. The Bills should trade for Rosen
IgotBILLStopay replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As Buffalo86 says, to make OP's idea work, we need a bit of market inefficiency here. To make a Bills trade more palatable, say something like Beane has recently stated that he is going to still evaluate Qbs in the draft since there may be some QBs who are undervalued that he can subsequently trade for a profit. So if Beane believes that Rosen can be had for cheap and later flipped for more compensation, then we should trade for him. Buy low sell high. I still wouldnt do it, but that at least is consistent with Beane's own statement. -
Eagles trade for RB Jordan Howard
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Double whammy! First he was a potential trade candidate for us (he is just 24!). Second, the Eagles were a potential trade candidate for Shady if we wish to move on from him. This trade kinda kills both. -
Unpopular Take. The Bills should trade for Rosen
IgotBILLStopay replied to Zerovoltz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The basic argument that Rosen can be had for cheap has merit. However, if that was the only criterion, why shouldnt Arizona keep him as insurance instead of trading him for pennies on the dollar? The obvious reason he can be had for cheap is that there can only be one Queen Bee to a hive!! You cant have the cake and eat it too mate. Either say that Rosen is a good backup in which case Arizona should keep him rather than trade him to the Bills for peanuts. Or say, there can only be one King and that is why Arizona is going to let him go for cheap which means that the Bills (with Allen as the unquestioned king) should not acquire him even if he can be had for cheap. -
Miami trading Robert Quinn to Dallas
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills would have easily met that compensation. Maybe the Fins dont want to trade Quinn within the AFCE. Although, what difference does it make if you are tanking? Still quite young at 28 - has a few years left. Wonder why he agreed to a 1-year deal. Nicely done Fins. Acquired him for a 4th rounder (+swap of 6th rounders) and then traded him away for a future 6th rounder. -
Bills sign RB Senorise Perry
IgotBILLStopay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
RB depth signed primarily for ST I think. Why is this situation attractive to Perry? He sees opportunity for RB reps since he is backing the oldest backfield in NFL history. -
A lot of things go into making a completion - not just the QB. The correctly drawn up play, the receiver running the right route etc. Also, from the second angle it is clear the receiver is coming from where Mahomes was looking. So he knows the play is developing as designed. Look or no-look, his job is to get the ball to a spot, which he did. I have seen it a few time. Actually, Jeff Garcia was a master at that. https://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2018/12/14/kyle-shanahan-says-patrick-mahomes-no-look-pass-wasnt-unique/ Allen's play, on the other hand, is just pure instinct one on one against a great defender. You want to vote for MVP, vote Mahomes. But you want to vote for the jaw-dropping play of the year - Allen's hurdle any time.

There is this misperception that Upstate NY is full of country bumpkins. I am sure a lot more of the Bills Fans are twitter / tech savvier than the Cheeseheads or the Who Dat? (I happen to like the Packers and the Saints as well). In the not too distant past, people actually preferred Rochester over Silicon Valley for tech opportunities. Just saying.

I was thinking about the Allen vs. Darnold question. Personally, I would rather have Allen than Darnold. But I am biased. Just was wondering how much the relative merits of Allen vs. Darnold were discernable pre-draft. Sources connected to Bills and Jets would likely give biased answers. Teams not needing QBs would likely not have done a through enough evaluation. I thought of Dorsey as an unbiased source who also invested effort in evaluating all 4 QBs. Additionally he has turned out to be pretty good at QB evaluation with hitting on Mahomes and then Mayfield. That is why I was interested. I would be interested in the Cards opinion as of April 2018 as well - though I think they likely preferred Darnold - since they were not aggressive in trading for Allen. However that could also be a function of the comfort they had with Bradford. Also they do not have Dorsey's track record in QB evaluation. Sorry if yall find it uninteresting. But he also has zero incentive not to reveal that. I was hoping someone would ask him that in some interview.
