We need a #1 WR guy to stretch the field in the worst way possible. FA Market / Draft This is a WR rich draft with potential Day 1 starters available all the way into the third round. However, the FA market is thin with only Amari Cooper and maybe Green (if not franchise tagged) likely available. That brings me to trade possibilities Stefon Diggs is unhappy in Minny - has removed all Vikings mentions from twitter and was complaining about targets all year. He also apparently cannot get along with Adam Thielen. He has been mentioned on the internet as a trade candidate forever. However most of the discussion has focused on the Pats as trade partners. Thielen is a true #1 with great outside skills - but has been forced to go inside a lot to defer to Diggs (especially after the latter complained). While he (Thielen) has done admirably in the slot - his true position is outside. Why Beasley & Taron Johnson? Minny is in a horrible horrible cap situation. They will save 5.5 million by trading Diggs. Trading Rhodes saves them an additional 8.1 mill. They will also likely be extending Cousins (to reduce the cap hit), and releasing Livnal Joseph to create some cap space. They want to be competitive and do not want to get rid of all their assets in a firesale. Based on above discussion, Thielen and Minny can benefit a lot from having a guy like Beasley operating underneath. Cole and Taron are signed to very reasonable contracts - together will count less than 6.5 mill for 2020. Cole has done a great deal for our team. And Taron has clearly outplayed his contract. Minny also has Holton HIll ready to step into Rodes' shoes. Having Taron and Cole keeps Minny competitive but at about 7.1 million less. Why the trade for us? As we saw in the Houston playoff game, to take the next step, we need a guy to stretch the field and Diggs is among the best out there. Also, we have Dukle Williams ready to step into Beasley's shoes - already in the Hou playoff game, I think Duke was in for more snaps than Beasley. With a WR rich draft (we are taking at least one WR in the first 3 rounds), we dont really have roster space for both Beasley and Diggs. we can easily absorb the extra salary with our cap situation. We acutely felt Levi Wallace's absence late last season and need depth at CB. And if Rhodes does not work out, we can always cut him. I am yet to see anyone here or on the net propose a trade for Diggs involving Beasley. So any comments will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Other guys jumping on the Foles / Ngakoue package Deal. Bills specifically mentioned. https://www.bigcatcountry.com/2020/3/3/21163042/jacksonville-jaguars-trade-rumors-yannick-ngakoue-nick-foles -

That analysis is not complete, no? The main problem is the 15+ million salary for this year. If they do not trade him, they are on the hook for 22.125 mill cap hit this year AND the deadcap for next year - which will be 12.5 mill (total of 34.625 mill). If they trade him, they have a total cap hit of 18.75 mill - so cap savings over 2 years is nearly 16 mill (not to mention the associated cash savings), no? Maybe you think that their cap situation will be easy enough in 2021 to not worry about the cap hit at that time -in which case you do have a point. -

The main reason Jacksonville cant afford Ngakoue is the money tied up in Bortles and Foles. I have also been thinking the past week about possibly taking on Foles' contract and being able to sign Ngakoue long term at 20 mill per year. To take on Foles' contract, Jacksonville might even give us an extra 4th rounder in addition to trading the rights to Ngakoue. We have a healthy cap situation and need to spend money. So why not take on Foles and offload him to someone else for draft comp when their starting QB is hurt? Foles has been a backup before (To Minshew of all people) and is not really a locker room threat to Josh Allen who is the unquestioned starter. So I dont anticipate locker room issues. This way we preserve our draft picks and still get Ngakoue. -
Possibility of trading up to #16 (Atlanta)
IgotBILLStopay replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yes Atlanta at #16 is a possible trading partner ..but if trading up, why not trade with TB at #14 instead? Denver at #15 is likely taking a receiver. -
Would you make a trade for Alshon Jeffery?

Candidate for Franchise Tag. -
His on field recklessness does not make him a team cancer or culture killer. On the contrary, teammates have gone out of the way to say what a great teammate he was. Here is his long time coach Marvin Lewis talking about him: https://bengalswire.usatoday.com/2020/02/22/marvin-lewis-explains-why-bengals-took-risk-vontaze-burfict/ Looks like Burfict has also. on occasion, been unfairly targeted by the NFL. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2670675-marvin-lewis-defends-vontaze-burfict-after-lb-receives-75000-fine https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2730300-marvin-lewis-says-vontaze-burfict-has-changed-as-lb-faces-5-game-suspension

IgotBILLStopay replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we trade for a WR, it should only be for Stefon Diggs or AJ Green. I am not sure Alshon Jeffrey would make an incremental contribution to our WR corps. -
Yes. For that matter, even Ogletree - who was the Giants Team Captain last year - had a DUI and a drug suspension coming out of college. And the Bills were certainly seriously considering adding Antonio Brown last off-season. So it is not like McBeane only go for saints (no pun there). I certainly think Beane should do his due diligence on Burfict. He may choose to pass - but it is not as clear cut a No as a majority of the posters appear to believe.

Alec Ogletree as a potential SLB fit

I read up on him last season since the Bills were gonna play the Giants. https://www.nj.com/giants/2019/08/boom-or-bust-case-of-giants-alec-ogletree-playmaker-in-pass-defense-or-liability.html But if you were surprised by him being a liability in pass coverage, I was too when I read that article. When drafted in 2013, almost every analyst was applauding his pass coverage skills. -
Alec Ogletree as a potential SLB fit

He is decent in run defense - but quite pathetic in pass coverage. If he can be had for cheap, I dont mind having him in a situational role - on obvious running plays or against say, an inexperienced QB. But experienced QBs will have him for breakfast. -
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001102838/article/vontaze-burfict-reinstated-after-12game-suspension One of the greatest linebacker talents in all of football. Lockdown run defender, very decent in pass coverage and, most importantly, never misses a tackle. And, he can play ILB pretty well too - so insurance if Edmunds has to sit for some reason. Very very smart football mind. If it works out, he wont just replace Lorax - he will be a huge upgrade over Lorax. Can likely be had for cheap. The flip side is his "head" - he plays recklessly and has racked up over 4 million in fines. Several opposing players have called him dirty and that name has merit. However, his teammates have always said great things about him - he is a "process" McD kinda guy who will do his 1/11. If he is serious about improving his conduct by eschewing dirty plays - he might turn out to be the best signing of the offseason. I also have faith that our defense's discipline with McD & Frazier at the helm can really help him out. Anyway, he could likely be had for 2-3 mill per year without significant guarantees - so I dont see any downside from trying him out.

Based on what I remember, Josh Norman is an excellent CB in zone coverage and only so-so in man coverage. While that can turn some people off (remember Gilmore's comments about how he was better than Josh Norman since he played man coverage?), the fact is Norman's best years were playing zone coverage under McD. I can see Norman coming cheaper than Kevin Johnson and being as good or better replacement.
