  1. It explains why you might be willing to pay extra on the trade. Didnt Belichik pretty much acknowledge once that one of the motivations in signing Gilmore was that he did not have to face him twice every season?
  2. Pre-Draft plan: Go after both Clowney and a Ngakoue trade. Take whichever one comes first. But balk if the price is too high (>16 mill per year for Clowney and draft compensation for Ngakoue). If we get either, then release Murphy. If we dont land either, we restructure Murphy deal and go to battle with what we have.
  3. NBC Sports says the Pats and Redskins were both trying to land Diggs (i suspect the list of suitors was likely longer). https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/patriots/nfl-rumors-patriots-vikings-talked-stefon-diggs-trade-bills-landed-wr see also The trade already made a lot of sense: Diggs was the missing piece in the offense. When you are a playoff team with a relatively low first rounder, you should trade it to acquire a young healthy player with demonstrated production in a position of need. And Diggs, more than any other receiver available, is the perfect fit. You have a good outside guy (JB) and a good inside guy (CB). Now you get the contested catch deep threat the Bills were always lacking despite having a QB with a rocket arm. And you have an OC, who just loves 11-personnel formations (three WR sets) as much as anybody else. If Allen can make Foster look good (2018), just imagine how he can gel with Diggs. While Beane is getting a lot of credit for landing the perfect piece, I dont see him getting widespread praise for keeping Diggs away from the Pats. There has been talk that NE was trying to retain Brady by getting Diggs. With or Without Brady, the Pats would have been significantly better with Diggs. When you feel it is your time to rise to the top, you gotta be willing to pay a lil extra to slam the door on an opponent trying to get there. Which is just what Beane did! I'm pretty sure the Pats were offering a first rounder - like they did to get Brandin Cooks. There is some talk among Pats fans about going after OBJ in a trade - but if they do that, the price will only go up after Hopkins and Diggs trades - Will take at least a first, a third and something extra. Might still be optimal for them to get OBJ if their WR draft track record is anything to go by (N'Keal Harry).
  4. That stat is a bit misleading - People like Josh Norman do not count against the formula - since they were released by their former team. Also, some Bills FAs can still be signed by other teams - like Kevin Johnson might end up on the Broncos. Stated differently, while it does not look likely we will get a comp pick, it is not yet impossible. Edit: didnt see gonzo's post, which is much clearer and has more details.
  5. Was a Special Teams captain for the Bills before he went down with an injury. The signing is also insurance that he doesnt beat us in the playoffs since we want to go the whole way.
  6. I believe something in play for the Bills to land Ngakoue. Maybe our 3rd rounder this year and next year's first?
  7. said this in another post CB ( Diggs, Dantzler or Fulton), RB (Edwards-Helier or Moss) Tight End (cole Kmet) or DL (say a Terrell Lewis, Blacklock or Madubuike) probably more likely. But WR certainly possible since we don’t have to draft for need. If a WR with a much higher grade falls, Beane will be all over him.
  8. His playing style is so dissimilar to Fitz - yet somehow, just like Fitz, he keeps hanging around getting starting gigs.
  9. That may not be the worst thing for the Chargers at this time. Tuh-Rod will be steady and not commit many turnovers. Yes - he likely wont win games with his arm - but at least he wont lose them. Also, Anthony Lynn is very familiar with what Tuh-Rod can do. I would not be surprised if the Chargers are competitive and fighting for a playoff spot in December.
  10. Ed Oliver and Star regularly got double teamed - that is what opened things up for Shaq and Jordan Phillips. But you are not at all wrong in saying Clowney will consistently command double teams and that will open up sacks for the others. He is worth way more than the 10 mill per / one year prove it deal people are bandying around. Umm - it takes more than a plane ride. NFL is currently restricting physicals. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001106790/article/jadeveon-clowney-hasnt-found-market-he-expected
  11. And even those numbers will be subject to a physical - whenever that can be completed.
  12. we did re-sign a bunch of players on offense - Spencer Long option, Quinton Spain re-sign, Foster re-sign, restructured Kroft, Croom extension. Continuity is a good thing. also signed TE Nate Becker, WR Nick Easley, WR Ray-Ray McCloud, OT Victor Salako, RB Christian Wade and QB Davis Webb to reserve/future contracts. We had new holes on defense / ST - departures of Shaq, Phillips and retirement of Lorax - but no real new holes on offense - only WR1 which was a carryover hole. That being said, we aint done - we may still go RB / Oline / TE in the rest of FA / Draft.
  13. Oh, Jacksonville without a doubt.
  14. He could trade with the Redskins for two first rounders and a second this year and end up with Tua.
  15. Here is what I said on Monday: Clearly he overestimated his own worth. That said, people are crazy to say he will go somewhere on a 1 year rental. He will likely sign a 5-year 80-85 mill deal with 40-45 mill guaranteed. I can bet he will have offers at that price. The Jets will easily throw that money at him.
  16. Cam Newton might come here as a backup given the Carolina pipeline. i don’t think there are any other starting jobs open.
  17. CB ( Diggs, Dantzler or Fulton), RB (Edwards-Helier or Moss) Tight End (cole Kmet) or DL (say a Terrell Lewis, Blacklock or Madubuike) probably more likely. But WR certainly possible since we don’t have to draft for need. If a WR with a much higher grade falls, Beane will be all over him.
  18. I still think it was a shade of an overpay for a player who was asking to be traded. But it was a trade that had to be made. And I am happy with it.
  19. Belichik normally gonna be all over this. But how will even he be able to work it into his cap space?
  20. some info on Tyler https://section215.com/2020/03/15/philadelphia-eagles-matakevich-temple/ intangibles and special teams ace scheme fit
  21. WTG. was thinking about this possibility just this morning. some info about him: 5th round draft pick in 2013. 28 years old. was a backup in 2013, the starter in 2014 and backup again in 2015 when Shaq Thompson beat him out. But has started a bunch of games for the saints when he was not injured. A solid signing of a player McD is familiar with.
  22. That has "Pats swoop in" written all over it.
