I dont disagree with you about the need for playmakers. We have a solid roster .. but are short on playmakers compared to, say, the Cowboys or the Browns - which was exposed against Texans. Just pointing out that with Diggs acquired and based on various Beane coments - playmakers other than RB are unlikely at least at the top of the draft. With respect to your specific post - here are realistic round 2 non-playmaker targets Dlineman - several but will likely be an Edge rusher / combo player and not a DT Olineman - Will likely be a Tackle - Isiah Wilson / Ezra Cleveland Safety - Kyle Dugger / Ashtyn Davis / Jeremy Chinn (all mentioned on TSW pages as well) - these are not long term "backup" safeties IMO CB - Trevon Diggs! (yes he is seen by some scouts as too much scheme specific - but he is perfect for the Bills' zone coverage schemes), Cameron Dantzler, Damon Arnette

Useless Roster Trivia one week before the draft
IgotBILLStopay replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you a Dobbins man or an Arnette man? Or just a Buckeye fan? -
Just reading between the lines of various Beane comments, it actually appears that RB is possibly the only skill position he will consider early in the draft. Other than RB, my reading of the tea leaves indicates #54 is likely to be a Dlineman, Olineman, CB or safety - in other words, all non-playmakers. That said, it may all be a smoke screen and we might still see Beane go playmaker. Edit - T.E. is still possible, but I dont consider it likely after the Kroft restructure.

Just bored. Usually this time of the year, I would have been poring over videos of potential first round picks during the day and watching NBA games in the evening. Now we dont have a first rounder this year and we all know what is happening to sports in general thanks to this insidious virus. Here is some useless trivia based on some roster analysis: As of now Bills Roster is missing something that it has not missed since the 2014 season. Do you guys know what that is? There can be many answers I have not thought of - so the clue is important. Clue: @YoloinOhio likely knows this already. (scroll down to see the answer)

Tre White - Best in the League?
IgotBILLStopay replied to Houston's #1 Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a fair question. Now Tre is clearly the best at zone coverage. His ability to shut down one side of the field has been the best since Richard Sherman's best years and Josh Norman's 2015 season. However, to be fully effective, he needs the CB2 to cover the other side of the field. That being said, there are other CBs (the Revis type) out there who are better than Tre at man coverage (guys like Gilmore and Ramsey). You can put those guys on an island and have them take on the best WR head on. But to be effective, they need CB2 to handle WR2 etc. Tre is perfect for McD's scheme. But you cant pay top dollar for a scheme specific guy - even if you are like Buffalo with a secure coaching situation and defensive scheme - since it will affect the trade value in the future - say, if Bills want to move on from Tre 3 years from now. That is why OP's question has merit. The nice thing about Gilmore and Tre is that they are not bunnies when it comes to the other coverage. In other words, Gilmore and Tre are more than adequate even in zone and man coverage, respectively - even though they are not among the league best. That is why these two players deserve top CB dollars. -
Josh Allen High School Highlights

Yup. I recognize that my response was anecdotal rather than scientific.

This premise has some merit even though I submit that it is more true for WRs than QBs. Maybe because I keep thinking of Johnny Football and Kurt Warner as exceptions to the premise. But it is a topic worth debating. So thanks.

Talk about stating the obvious. At this point, a trade down is probably more likely than a trade up. I doubt we will trade up even if Jeudy or Lamb falls to the twenties. The prime spot for trade-up, if any, will likely be to #40=45 (round 2). That being said, one cannot really rule it out entirely. If, say, one of the top 4 Olinemen or a Simmons / Brown / Okudah is available in the 20s, next year's #1 is in play for a trade up.

McCaffrey Signs 4 Years 64 Million
IgotBILLStopay replied to aristocrat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will refer you back to my original post. It says that CMC is not just a RB, but much much more. Hence the comparables shouldnt be RB salaries. Closest comparable is Marshall Faulk. Would anyone argue Marshall Faulk in 1998 was not worth 64 million in 2020 dollars? -
McCaffrey Signs 4 Years 64 Million
IgotBILLStopay replied to aristocrat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By that logic, no player should ever sign a 16 mill per year avg contract - how do you explain all these big contracts like Amari Cooper, DeForest Buckner, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson etc.? Injuries and down years are factored into these contracts by the teams via the salary cap - how else do you explain the healthy bottomlines of the teams despite the large number of injuries suffered? -

This is not just about what the player is worth as a RB. He is a pretty decent WR too. And, he is not just being paid for his worth on the field. McCaffrey is the face of the franchise going forward (even more than the QB) - and is being paid accordingly. Actually, a very very smart play by Carolina.- 114 replies

Beane Draft Day Aggression - Trade up for Delpit
IgotBILLStopay replied to Mark80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
we don’t have the draft capital to trade up into the first round. Maybe get up to #40 at most. I doubt Delpit will be available beyond #40. That being said Delpit is certainly a stud and worthy of being a first round pick (so I am not disagreeing with you OP). -
Backup running back - how about going back to 2018?
IgotBILLStopay replied to Coach55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
may be a decent pickup for under 3 mill. knows the system - will help in seasons without a good offseason. -
They didnt really put up points and yards last season. Their 12-4 record was primarily due to to their stellar defense. I am not sure Sanu / Cannon added much last season. They were injured more often than not. I am pretty sure they are going to be cut. And they have already lined up Thuney's replacement in Hjalte Froholdt. These 3 alone will clear 26 mill + in cap room. On Offense, they will not be worse than 2019 because of the cuts - see post above - Sanu / Cannon didnt contribute much and Thuney replacement is already available. They wont cut the guys on defense - Hightower and Gilmore will likely be extended - though Gilmore might decline the extension since cap is slated to rise.
