Reason the Dolphins fired their OC
IgotBILLStopay replied to Nihilarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
always good when an AFCE opponent’s coaching ranks are in disarray. that being said, these “issues” are less about the coaching tree and more about individual personalities. last couple of seasons, Bills fans have been a bit hard on Daboll and before that were harsh on Gailey as well. Ultimately winning cures everything and losing cannot cure anything. O’Shea situation appears to be a combination of losing and inability to connect with the younger crowd. -
Loved it. Watch McD’s face - it still rankles after so many years - that competitiveness was what was lacking in the Bills past two decades. oh and Frazier is a pot sirrer. Enjoy. Edit: There is a reason the Bills asked him about sack fumbles - Epenesa had 4 each in 2018 and 2019. Tells us one reason Bills were attracted to Epenesa. His long arms come in very handy.

Hey I did not mean to impugn the police in any way. Just that FSTs themselves only indicate the need for further testing and “failing a test” by itself doesn’t indicate guilt. Since the BAC etc. was likely administered, we will know soon whether Oliver was impaired or not. Just cautioning people not to vilify Oliver till all details are known. Also, the very fact the Bills are including Oliver in their offseason plan is a good indicator his legal troubles are surmountable.
-
thanks. i vaguely remember that there was a selection issue with the 1998 study you reference. Didn’t 3/4 of the sample have BAC above 0.08 - which means if the officers arrested everyone they would have had 75% accuracy anyway. I don’t remember the details but am pretty sure the 1998 study has some questionable validity due to providing little indication of the likelihood of false positives, which is the real issue in these cases. That being said, I am already at my ignorance frontier - so would be happy to agree with you if you are an expert on the matter. Additionally, doesn’t it look like the officers were wrong here since BAC was only 0.03?
-
i see it as a lawyer (and former prosecutor) who knows the ins and outs of fses talking about them. pls do explain what i am missing.

lol. officers are required to allow the option of barefoot testing. that is all i’m saying. so it is not at all strange to see a person take these tests barefoot https://www.duibart.com/blog/2011/february/validity-of-dui-field-sobriety-tests/ More importantly, i have read some reports of Oliver “failing” the field sobriety tests. these tests are notoriously unreliable (see above link for statistics - since this thread has a bunch of people prepping AP Stats?).

Here is the headline: Court records: Former UH star Ed Oliver admitted to drinking, taking Adderall prior to Houston DWI arrest Here is the text: The headline implies that Oliver admitted to drinking and taking alcohol happened a short time before the arrest. The text , however, says he had beer at 1 pm (at least 8 hrs prior to the arrest) and clearly says it is unclear when he took Adderall.
-
not odd to be barefoot. I posted this link earlier on field sobriety tests https://www.minicklaw.com/attacking-walk-turn-field-sobriety-test/
-
That was a clickbait article. Still unknown if had Adderall in his system. He may just have a prescription for Adderall. What happened to verify before vilify?

Thanks. I think MAJ'Bobby's posts on this matter deserve a new thread. By itself each of Ed's "Offenses" appear mild: a. Sobriety test: From video it appeared he did decently b. driving erratically but 0.03% blood alcohol - should not lead to a DWI conviction c. having a gun in the car - this happened in Texas, man! The main concern is that b. and c. happened together. I understand now the reason for the arrest - by itself neither b. nor c. would have led to the arrest. But leaving the arrest aside, the key question still unanswered is - can we assume he would be let out with probation since neither, by itself, appeared to be a "crime". Or does the combination also lead to post arrest legal implications? I am going to go out on a limb and say that the consequences for Oliver may not be too severe (though he will likely sit a couple of games). That is probably the reason the Bills are allowing him to continue in the offseason program. If it was more serious (like the DeAndre Baker situation), he would likely have been asked by the team (like Baker) to not show up. That being said, this was pretty serious and could have led to something dangerous. It is not clear how long he had been driving erratically. I hope the young man learns a lesson.

no in a best case for Beasley, I already assumed Davis will take snaps only from Duke and not from Beasley (though there is no indication the Bills are moving on from Duke). The bigger issue for Beasley is going to come from the snaps going to Diggs, who HAS to play at least 90% of the snaps. You can’t really play 3 WR sets on every snap - there is no room for surprise then. -

It is a numbers thing. if you add a WR like Diggs, you want him in on 90% of the snaps. And if you draft someone in the 4th round, (Davis) you want him on the roster and taking a decent number of snaps. Even if we part with Duke’s ( and I don’t think we will) snaps, that alone can be barely enough for Davis. Where are you going to find snaps for Diggs? Is Beasley going to be happy with 40% of the swaps relative to 2019? He was unhappy when his number was not called enough in Dallas. Bottomline - my trade suggestion was not a random thought but involves chemistry, opportunity and market value considerations. This is not to say that the trade will definitely happen - just that Beane has reasons to pull the trigger on such a trade and it would not be totally bad for us. -

i had suggested Packers’ 2021 2nd rounder. Packers will be getting Beasley at a discounted rate salary wise (He has a front loaded contract - so Bills have already paid a big chunk) which they desperately need since they don’t have much cap room to work with. Davis and Duke are the obvious slot replacements. Davis’ calling card is separation - not speed. And Duke played in the slot more than a third of the time last year even with Beasley on the team -

As I explained - there is only one ball and only 55 roster spots. we just drafted two WRs and traded for one. And have not lost anybody of significance from last year. How can you find playing time for Diggs, Davis, Hodgins etc. without losing anybody? Actually the reasons I suggested Beasley were, among others, a. he is "less" valuable than Brown and Diggs b. he has more market value than Duke / Davis etc. c. there are non-AFC teams with WR needs which we can exploit d. Josh is working out with Hodgins, Davis, Diggs and Brown - but not with Beasley -
Really big news in the second podcast - JA and MB will travel to Florida next week to work with Diggs, Smoke and Motor!! Love it. Stay safe and keep working hard. Palmer had mentioned that one cannot improve long ball accuracy without both qb and receiver being in sync - looks like JA has taken that advice to heart.

https://billswire.usatoday.com/2020/04/29/buffalo-bills-gabriel-davis-zack-moss-nfl-combine-bert-whigham/ I was a bit underwhelmed by the Bills drafting Davis in Round 4, but this interview brings out what Beane saw in him. Count me among the believers in Gabe Davis now. Summary for those who dont want to hear the whole podcast: Whigham says Bills got a steal in Davis. Why did Gabe fall to the 4th round? Becasue he says GMs cant measure heart. Also, scouts are afraid to recommend someone from a lower school with a "slow" 40 as a higher pick since they are afraid of being blamed for busts. He says that, for a WR, 40 time is a highly overrated stat. He says there is a reason there is no Hall of Fame WR with 4.3 speed since at that speed the WR cannot really adjust and catch the ball. The key is separation and more importantly, separation at, say 4.5 or 4.6, speed. Cites Jerry Rice who had 4.5 or 4.6 speed in the 40. About Davis' heart and attitude - he says Davis was a captain the past three years at UCF (UCF won 25 games in a row in 2017 and 2018). Challenges us to name one other draft pick who was a team captain as a freshman [my insert: Our own Tre White wore #18 at LSU as a freshman, didnt he?] Also, Davis dominated every opponent he faced over three years (no one shut him down). [My own insert He is right - I couldnt find one game where he was shut down - among P5 opponents two games against Pitt (2018 - 80 yards - 1 td and 2019 - 151 yards), bowl game against LSU with Patrick Queen, Devin White & Grant Delpit LSU Defense (59 yards and a TD), against Stanford - 63 yds and a TD. And I am not even talking about him destroying Memphis which has been the second best AAc team with 128 yards] After every player is done with practice, Davis is alone out there catching balls. Says most rookies dont take criticism well and like to keep doing things they are good at - but Davis is uber coachable and always willing to work on his weakness. Says Davis has been a professional since the age of 17 and has worked out regularly with both Dak Prescott and Saquan Barkley and learned to be a professional from them. Whigham also talked briefly about Matt Milano having a handicap - coming not from Alabama or LSU - but from BC. He talked about how he has a knack for the ball and works really hard. Lastly he talked about Quinton Spain - who was an UDFA at the Titans, through hard work made the roster, then became a starter. Overall a very nice podcast that will have every Bills fan rooting for our 4 players - Spain, Milano, Davis and Moss. Dont mind trading Beasley to the Packers for a future second - there is only one ball to go around and we have to keep Diggs, Brown, Davis, Duke, McKenzie, Roberts, Hodgins, Knox, Kroft, SIngletary, Moss etc. happy. They have nothing at WR and appear desperate. -

Beane himself said that Moss was sticking out on the Bills Board. There were 6 consensus day 1 RB starters in the draft: Edwards-Helaire, Swift, Taylor, Moss, Dobbins and Akers and 5 of em went in the top 55. Getting Moss at 86 was a downright steal. Moss fell because of his combine 4.65 40 time (that he ran with a tweaked hamstring). On his "pro-day" he ran a digital 4.52 which would have put him in the top 10 at the combine. To answer your specific question, video does show him running by a lot of folks. I dont think it is possible to distinguish whether it is Moss' natural elusiveness or fear on the part of the defenders that caused this? He is elusive and nasty - maybe that is what led to your comment https://www.cover1.net/2020-nfl-draft-utah-rb-zack-moss-elusive-and-nasty/ -

Opinions on a hypothetical trade
IgotBILLStopay replied to offsides#76FredSmerlas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Throw in Bengals’ 2nd rounder from next year before we can even begin talking (expect it to be between #33 to #40). As you point out, Brown’s value, coming off a 1000 yard season is higher. And I am not even considering the loss of the JA JB connection so may still not be worth it.
