ultimately there is only one ball to go around. there are only so many snaps. the guy on the left, attitude notwithstanding, has a point. Diggs, Brown, Beasley, Knox, Hodges, Singletary, Moss - how do Diggs, Beasley and Brown replicate their 2019 production. can’t really extrapolate receiver yards from different teams from last year. especially if our defense is good and we get a quick lead and switch to run heavy mode in the second half. I also think Singletary is going to hv a big year. I’d take winning over individual players making the pro bowl everyday. No doubt the presence of Diggs will help Allen increase his production (maybe to 3500 yards) but at this point, easier to say Bills do well overall than individual receivers get pro bowl honors. of course Allen could pass for 5K yards and we can have great receiver yardage - but that is by no means a given.

C'mon GB. I normally agree with what you post but this is an exception. In 2008, there was no way of knowing Peters was going to be a surefire HOFer. And I did not ever say that the need for a QB led to the trade - which is what you inferred from my post. All I am saying is that our playoff drought is attributable less to trading away Peters and more to an inability to secure a franchise QB.

You are basing your argument on looking back at the number of games Peters played. You are right that he did not miss many games. I am basing my statements on my memory of what happened following the Peters trade. Peters was the homegrown cinderella UDFA who made it big and he was beloved by the Bills fans. So I remember following what happened with him the whole of next season. Iggles fans actually thought the Bills had won the trade. I tried to go back and find articles from the "immediate aftermath of the trade" since games missed only tell part of the story. Here are two articles that reflect my view of the trade. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/323415-jason-peters-trade-looks-better-and-better-for-the-buffalo-bills Peters was skipping TC etc. in the hopes of getting a bigger contract and his conditioning and play had regressed. That said, he certainly got his act together and subsequently played well enough for Philly - hence my "immediate aftermath" caveat. Here is a description of his play surrounding the trade. https://walterfootball.com/jasonpeterstrade.php This is not to say that Philly did not do well with the trade. Peters is a HOFer. Given what we knew at the time, I'd make that trade for the Bills every time. There is just a lot of revisionist history calling it one of the worst trades made by the Bills - and that is flat out wrong. More importantly, even knowing how Peters turned out for the iggles, I'd probably still do the trade. Eric Wood was a warrior for us and we saved tons of cap space in the trade. I have seen articles suggesting we would not have had the playoff drought but for this trade. I disagree with that point of view.

1. Spring chicken compared to Brady and Brees 2. The iggles can only do 1 year deals given their 2021 cap situation - so probably a smart move by them - they need to hit on their draft picks to get young talent on the cheap in the coming years since they have no cap (w)iggle room. 3. And I am not upset AT ALL about the Peters trade. Yes we lost a Probowl OL - but people forget that Peters wanted a huge contract, was hurt a lot in the immediate aftermath of the trade and we netted Eric Wood. I'd still do that trade even knowing how well Peters worked out for the iggles. Our long playoff drought WAS primarily due to the shoddy QB situation and I doubt having Peters with us for huge $$ instead of Wood would have changed that.

Ngakoue Watch is officially on!
IgotBILLStopay replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
my bad. I meant Jay Gruden -
The Franchise Tag deadline is looming (July 15). Doubt the Jags get an unconditional first rounder for him. I think most national analysts have his possible destination wrong. The teams being mentioned as possible trading partners for the Jags (Seahawks, Eagles etc.) just dont have the cap space to fork over 20 mill a year for Ngakoe (and he is worth every penny of that). The only logical team remains the Bills if the Jags are interested in trading him. And if it happens, it will happen in the next few days! Besides TE, DE is the one position we are a little underwhelming. We are decent but not really dominating. And Ngakoue fits perfectly. Beane has shown he is willing to be aggressive - maybe he can offer Murphy and a 2nd rounder which can turn into a first if Ngakoue delivers at a probowl level. Murphy's best years were with Jay Gruden as the coach in Washington - and Gruden is on the Jags staff now. The other DE dominos to fall will be Barrett, Clowney, Griffin and Markus Golden - deadline for Golden deal is July 22. Barrett will sign with Tampa, I dont view Golden as an upgrade over what we have, Clowney will likely sign after a physical and he and Griffen will likely sign only after the Ngakoue situation is resolved. So I think it is basically Ngakoue or the status quo at DE for us at this point. Bottomline - something to watch out for in these moribund times. And yes, I know there is a chance there will be no season but I remain optimistic. Edit: sry I meant Jay Gruden who was the Redskins HC, and is now on the Jags staff, not Kyle Shanahan.

no reason to believe NFL will be different (5%) at this time. However, there is still ways to go before the season and a majority of the 5% positive players will likely self quarantine before then and be virus free by the time TC rolls around. still expect TC will start on time. Test, Test and Test again will be the mantra for the season. the main risk is of course for the staffers and coaches - these players are young and should overcome the virus without issues.

Nick O'Leary Recovering from Heart Attack
IgotBILLStopay replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Article is a bit imprecise: Covid caused 4 heart attacks not heart failure. -
i like it from a Bills point of view. We have less superstars than other teams but have much better depth. This will enable us to retain some of that depth. Especially important since the risk of roster inactives is higher in 2020 (covid and lack of proper offseason conditioning leading to more injuries).

Bruce Smith zoomed AJ E.
IgotBILLStopay replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While that is true, it is also a fact that the Bills have a lot fewer of the "wanting out" situations. Their comments post trade / someone else paying higher will likely be negative regarding the team that traded them. About your specific examples, I do not think either Gilmore or McGahee explicitly asked to be traded when under contract with the Bills. GIlmore was actually a model citizen and would have happily stayed in Buffalo if Whaley had offered him a fair contract. Belichick paid him way more than the Bills were going to. And am still shaking my head at McGahee. The guy wanted a 6 or 7 yr 40 mill deal coming off a 990 yard season. Trading him was actually one of the smartest moves done during our postseason drought. Despite the Bills not even in the ball park of McGahee's contract demands, he did not really ask to be traded like Ramsey, Ngakoue or Adams. In the post-trade conference, I still remember Jauron denying McGahee wanting out and said "go confirm with the player". -

In contrast the Jets (Adams) and the Jags (Ramsey, Ngakoue) cant wait to get out. Seems like the players can "check out anytime they like, but they can never leave" the Jags and the Jets -
I agree. I pointed this out last season in an early game how Mcd was not aggressive enough with 47 seconds left and multiple timeouts at the end of the half. This game https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=401128106 The other classic instance was, of course, the playoff game described in OP. However, I attribute the playoff loss to three other factors ahead of coaching conservatism: 1. Inability to convert solid drives into TDs and settling for FGs 2. Defense (including Tre) not playing up to its abilities in the second half 3. Phantom penalties against the Bills. That being said, I think McD himself is aware of the play calling shortcoming. He himself said that he made mistakes in the playoff game and said looking to what went wrong starts with looking at his own decisions.

Unpopular takes on TBD
IgotBILLStopay replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just the number of likes to the post indicate the opposite - that Duke Williams is not thought of highly. Not agreeing or disagreeing. Just pointing out that logically speaking the more that people think Duke Williams is overrated, the opposite (Duke not overrated) is more likely true ? -
Unpopular takes on TBD

It is not just the number - but how damaging they are to the team. Lee Smith was in for 319 snaps - 8 accepted penalties (5 of them were FS!!). For comparison Dawkins had 7 accepted penalties in 1016 snaps, Ford 7 in 739 snaps and Morse only 3 accepted penalties in 908 snaps. https://www.footballdb.com/stats/penalties-player.html?tm=4&yr=2019 https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/buf/2019-snap-counts.htm Lee Smith will likely not make the team if the other guys are healthy. Kroft was also not very great (3 FS penalties in just 244 snaps). Edit; typed Knox instead of Kroft -

Interview with Wyoming OC on Josh Allen
IgotBILLStopay replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for posting the link. Pretty long - so needed some patience to listen to the whole thing:) Maybe it is me, but I got the feeling Josh Allen would not be the QB he is today without the opportunity to lead that ragtag 2017 Wyoming team to become respectable. After listening, I was reminded of an old saying I heard first in middle school (I had to look it up - found it was a Buddhist saying): "The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud --- the obstacles of life and its suffering. ... The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life."- 30 replies

Any All-2010s Bills honors without a mention of Kyle WIlliams, Lorax, Shady & Eric Wood is shady.

it is a misconception that Beasley only played the slot last year for the Bills. He played outside around 30% of the time (NFL advanced stars). Bring injury, he is pretty much not going to get those snaps with Diggs on the field. now fantasy analytics have become quite sophisticated. almost every fantasy site had a “sell” on Beasley after the Diggs trade. see for example https://www.rotowire.com/football/player.php?id=8249

there are only so many snaps in a season.we added diggs davis and hodges and haven’t lost anybody yet. even considering duke losing all his reps to davis (not a given at all), barring injuries, brown and beasley have to lose reps no? the numbers don’t add up with beasley and brown not losing any reps.
-
1. Beasley - his snaps are going to be reduced with Diggs and Davis and other WRs are getting reps with Allen. 2. Murphy - With Addison taking over Lawson’s snaps and Epenesa / Jefferson taking over Murphy’s snaps - but I thought Murphy improved as the season went on - so there is still a chance the veteran beats out the newbies. Murphy is still our #1 trade candidate.
