Thurman first two years - 505 carries for 2126 yds and 8 rushing TDs. Also 78 catches for 877 Yds and 6 TDs.
Devin 1st 3 years - 495 carries for 2332 yds and 11 rushing TDs. Also 107 catches for 697 yards and 3 TDs.
Pretty even performances - within 24 total yds and identical TD totals!
The game has changed in 30 years with more Nickel D and less carries by RBs and more platooning at RB. Singletary is an effective runner in the right scheme - he is not the receiver Thurman was - thus the Bills signing Duke Johnson.
So how many games did we win with Shady and Josh in 2018? This team had OJ, Thurman, Marshawn, Fred Jackson and Shady and won nothing. It is a QB league!
Bills need a 3rd down option now that Beasley is gone. Duke is a very good 3rd down back.
@GunnerBill I thought so but he failed in slot in MIN and played pretty well outside in KC last year. He did fall down on Gabe's 3rd TD ion AFC Divisional - cruel Gabe did that to fellow UCF alum!
I wonder if Mike Hughes is a candidate. Zone heavy background in MIN and started late last year for KC. Believe he was a team mate of Gabe Davis at UFC
IMHO most likely Bates competes fopr RG starting spot with Ford (if still here), this signee and a C/G mid-round draftee. Bills have spoke with a half dozen or more IOLs at Combine / Sr Bowl etc.
They do need backups. And unlikely OBD loses Bates as we have right to match any offer. It likely comes down to whether Dorsey and Kromer want Bates in new scheme more than anything else.
Lets look at his combine scores to start. Slow 40 for a WR, especially a gadget guy. Did not do agility drills due to lingering injuries.
He was used at all 3 WR positions at Colorado but has not shown same position flexibility in NFL. Basically a slow footed slot WR. Not a hybrid RB like Samuel or Patterson. 0 TDs last year. No ST return ability. Would have trouble getting on the field here.
Just watched and saw Oilers fumble the punt inside of 2 mins. So Bills had blocked punt, blocked FG and fumble recovery on STs. Also had 2 missed FGs.
Man the Bills offense was anemic in 1988
Went to this game and sat at midfield 20 rows up behind Bills bench. The group behind us were all dressed in Oilers garb - Mike Munchak's family. He was an All Pro guard for Houston.
The only play I remember is a blocked punt by Bills
Would be a no for me. At $5mm per year Gates would be in top 50% of league by position. Can't see someone giving him this on 5 games worth of film.
Bills could have assured a 2nd rd pick by offering him $4mm and chose not to. Have to believe that OBD feels confident they can keep him at a cost acceptable to them.
Was listening to Sirius NFL network around 11:30 am today. They stated the Colts cutting Wentz was directly related to his choosing to not get Covid Vaccine. And that Irsay the owner drove decision.
Makes me wonder if their antivax positions and subsequent loss of games played by Star, Beasley and Feliciano led to their releases.
