I know productivity is not always measured with your # being called by the commentators or showing up on the stat line but I have not heard #55 as much as I expected especialy with the new additions this year.

two good left tackles. don't worry, cordy is out this week.

And if Greg Williams could dial up some dirty hits against the Patriots that would be ideal as well.

i wonder how long c.j. is out....besides he's gotta wanna make a statement and i hope he does....which also makes me glad we got the win on the road and are playing them here later.

The Pats** look like a team that could make a run at 14-2 or better and Brady has thirty wins against two or three losses to the Bills in his career.  Show us you can beat the evil empire and we'll start talking about division titles.

What's nice is that for the first time in a long time I have some faith that this team can make a run at them.  If not this year, then next.  The McDermott D has held up well against the Pats** for the most part and we have what may be a competent offense.

when we play them and gilmore is on brown, that's when i would break out some robert foster on them. would also be nice if duke was brought up.

And yet we know there are posters like that. They pop up like weeds after a loss to crow about Bills failure. They get a perverse pleasure from it.

i for one like it that way. things are looking good!  foles gone...ben gone...poor sam , but...and then afcs and west will all beat each other up. the top wc should be in order this year.

plus those guys are saving themselves for the pats game.....

That was my point, Browns are not as in bad of shape, so its Bills best interest to see them lose again as they are by far a bigger threat to a playoff spot than Jets will be who at best will have 1 or 2 wins likely after 7 weeks given their schedule.

Personally, I want Jets to lose, but point of this thread was who to root for to help Bills playoff odds, and a Browns loss does more for Bills than Jets loss likely does.  I cant see anyway (even with a win in week 2) that the Jets can be anywhere near .500 come week 8.  Browns on the other hand still have a better roster and just lost to a very good team people were sleeping on.  They more likely bounce back than Jets.

i do agree with your points. i just get giddy at the tire fire that would erupt if the browns ground the jets. after week one, it's already smoldering.

just need tremaine to tip it to poyer...

sorry, i didn't read all the posts, but i think the bills used that game plan against the jets to pound the rock against the giants. i hope i didn't give anything away, if so, please blow up my account.

Oh yeah, believe me I got my apron and dinner plate on to feast on those tears hahahaha.  Just meant for the purpose of this thread, Browns losing is probably more helpful than Jets as the Jets will likely lose most of the next 5 games after the Browns.  To be fair though, I dont know Browns schedule over same stretch either though, that was a hot take based on what Jets are facing for 5 weeks.

i don't think the browns are in as bad of shape. i think the ravens are a smoke screen, the steelers will bounce back and i don't want the browns to sniff 9-7. they got way too much talent not to get some game on....plus they could sweep cincy and balt.   nope , i'm all for an 0-2 jets. when they get c.j back....combined with darnold being the most productive qb the last month of last season, i'd much rather see the jets and miami in a basement battle.

  7. 7 minutes ago, Alphadawg7 said:

Honestly, I would root for the Jets over Browns.  The Jets have a murderous 5 weeks after the Browns game where they will be lucky to win one more time.  So I think Jets schedule will take care of them, so be better if Browns also keep losing.

So even though Jets are divisional, I would root for Browns to lose based on their forth coming schedules.

i get that point, but if you've heard any popular opinions in nyc lately, one more bad loss will will nuke that staff, fans and city......yum!!!!  get the 3 count when you can.

Jets over the Browns for sure.  Jets will fade the following weeks.

Makes sense for KC to run away in that division and hang L’s on everyone but it doesn’t feel right.

i don't see it happening. i think rivers is gonna pull off double digits and the broncos or raiders could throw an upset in there. if teams can comfortably double sammy, he'll never get those numbers again this year.  chargers may be division winners.

obviously, that probably makes kc the top wc and then the bills vs. 2nd place in the south. i doubt one comes out of the north. pitt will get it together. who would wanna open against the pats.?  sheesh

Would be good to see the Browns start out 0-2. And the Jets will do enough losing to not have to worry about them.

i would rather the browns put the jets org. on fire. besides, the browns will still win their share of games and i don't want to have them hanging around the wc picture.

Not sure if this is done elsewhere. Please ignore/delete if so. I like to map out all the teams to root for to further the Bills changes of making the playoffs. Never too early to start. I ignore NFC vs NFC games for now. Would be interested to know if anyone feels otherwise about any of the games...

This week we are rooting for:

    Sunday Early:

    - 49ers over Bengals

    - Lions over Chargers

    - Colts over Titans

    - Miami over Pats d

    - Bills over Giants

    - Seattle over Steelers

    - Arizona over Ravens

    - Jax over Houston (Houston the better team)

    Sunday Late:

    - Chiefs over Oakland (let KC run away with division title)

    - Bears over Denver

    Monday:

Browns over Jets (tough call here IMO)

we could be looking alright with a win this week. i can see  sanfran winning...Seattle over the steelers,  but i wouldn't bet on the colts. my surprise upset is gonna be that undrafted never heard of him rookie qb for the jags pulling off a win over the texans.....in houston.

Solid analytics there!  Sounds reasonable to me.

This was true ONLY for the strip sack fumble on the 1st drive.  That was careless on Allen's part.  As for the fumbled snap:

    *  It was 4th down so falling on the ball would have been exactly the same as losing a fumble.

    *  Allen was unable to fall on the ball because Morse was blown up so bad he was pushed a couple of yards into the backfield into Allen.

my bad ...i was at a gunshooting , shot doing cookout that was outstanding. i couldn't get every play detail......but man what a day!

Allen just has a hard time getting any credit with the national media and even with many Bills fans.

12 games in and he is doing ok. Definitely an athlete and a leader.  He just needs to consistently deliver the ball and cut down on errors.   Remember a young Brett Farve.  Same kind of player and he did ok.

One fumble was on a sack, he needed to protect the ball.  The second fumble was a terrible snap, he never got the ball.

The Pick -6 was on Beasley.  The other pick was a batted ball - bad bounce.  He had two other "pickable" balls that fortunately  the Jets missed.

Yet he had a 308 yard game with 2 TDs.   He threw for 270 yards and one TD, he ran for 38 yards and a TD.  Despite most things going wrong for three quarters he LEADS HIS TEAM to a road win when down 16-0.    That should be the story but with the majority of the media will likely be more focused on his errors.

He slightly outplayed Darnold while in a more difficult environment

you could see how lazy he was holding the ball. if i was dabol, i would have tore him a new one for not protecting the ball.....and he should have just fell on the bad snap.

Pretty spot on. Bob Foster will end up cut, he was the best of the worst wr's in the league last year. No he's a after thought.

we need him opposite brown. the two of those could take an entire secondary out. ....and  make some huge grabs.  what i never understood is only having one take the top off guy.

with two that opens up the rest of the field.

stopping the run will be key.  I'm not sure what to do with Milano.  As @Virgil points out, having him cover Barkley ensures good tackling.  ON the other hand. E. Engram is a beast of a receiving TE.  Perhaps put Edmunds on Engram and Milano following Barkley around?

Otherwise, rush Manning and he should throw and INT or two.

ed oliver is gonna be a beast. i don't know who the center is for the gmen, but eli needs a pocket to step up in. i'm also grateful lorax is calling the pass rush schemes pre play.

they are gonna need to get it with the front 4 so the lbs can do their thing. hopefully lorax will be calling his own no. a lot.

  15. i didn;t go through every post but, i'm glad we won. i was hoping josh would have some confidence. but i didn't expect lazy ball handling.....and cole can't be his only guy.

edit: i also forgot that it still pisses me off when on 3rd downs leslie rushes 4. wtf dude? get your head outta yo ass....

I am a bit nervous about this game , no idea who really is going to win this game . It should be even matched up , it is week 1 Division opponent . Probably the hardest game to predict of all the games in week 1 . I would not be surprised if the Bills win it and also would not be surprised if the NY Jets wins it . Both defenses are very good . I am not seeing a blowout ( sure it could happen but most likely not ) it will be a close game and both offenses may have a hard time . I am looking at 13-10 / low scoring game which could go to either team . We will see tomorrow GO BILLS !

i agree, but hope not. this i hope will be a statement game 31-17...or better. if we can go back next week with some familiarity of the place and beat the giants, we can come home with confidence and a winning attitude and beat cincy. a lot of these guys haven't experienced the home crowd and coming home 2-0 would be huge.

actually i hope they  spread the field often and let him throw alot and use his athletic ability. yeah there will be mistakes made and maybe some game ending interceptions but let him learn and be aggressive. im not saying never run the ball but lets let this kid PLAY and gain experience this year!!

come out with a quick tempo and gas em. it's the first game and none of these jets guys have played 4 qtrs. take advantage and wear them out early.

run gore and singletary in the 4th.....get the w and call it a day.  allen 27/35  287 2 td 0 int.  gore 85 singletary  75 yeldon 33.

    bills 31 jets 17

edit: i forgot mckenzie to the pylon on a reverse from the 13 yd. line

edit: but seriously, we need dabol to show the greggo/the nfl that you can blitz but josh can throw last second 70mph killers.

Oldtimers here know this, but my screen name used to be "Hopeful".

I changed it on 11 September, 2016.  Why?  I had allowed myself to be persuaded, against my better football judgement, that Rex Ryan would do wonderful things for the Bills.  Rex certainly told us all about it.  He would improve the D from #4, that was kind of a disappointment with the personnel we had.   He would shut down the Pats, and it would be on tape for everyone to see.

Then came opening day - September 11, 2016, and I saw what we all saw - a Rex Ryan coached team that was underprepared, undisciplined, and appeared disorganized.  The offense was impotent and the defense shot itself in the foot with penalties and couldn't get a stop and get off the field.

And that's when I changed from "Hopeful" to "Hapless".  Sometime, I'd like to feel comfortable changing back.

lol that's funny. i knew it was a stupid hire before it happened. i believe it went something like this...

russ: come on doug, get behind me on this and help me sell him to the pegs. we need to put butts in the seats. we'll be rockstars!...and i promise you, i'll get you an extension and you'll be wiping your butt with money!

doug:  ok, but don't forget we're all in on ej. we stole sammy in the draft, remember how we crushed that?     e. j 's my boy.

marone just couldn't get it through his head. hell, i whacked his best rb and fan favorite to show him whose boss. anyway, he's gone

russ: yeah, sure whatever...we can't let rex leave the building!

A few weeks ago I wanted to see Allen have a big game.  Now I think if Singletary has a really good showing it bodes very well for the season at whole.

Daboll.  He never has headed a top offense.  After watching Nagy last night it's a bit concerning.  A disciple from great offensive mind Reid.  Overall, Chicago has talent but for me does not understand gameflow and getting a Qb in rythem.  I want to see Daboll build off last year and not become sporadic in his offense.

i don't think trubisky played in the preseason? that offense will come around....but in that division, i'm not counting on them making the playoffs.

spread the field and attack. 40 pass attempts for Josh. i know i know  this is wishful thinking it will probably resemble lasts nights game a bit unfortunately

the thing that gives me hope for this is dabol and his new england gene. i want to see the 1st 300 yard passing game since? ...can't even remember. i trust that dabol will not be too conservative. i think with 3 wide ( brown/beasley/foster ) with lee smith blocking and gore to pick up the blitz,( or hand off ) that could be our bread and butter, move the chains formation.

but however it happens, the w is most important. i believe when all is said and done that this game will be the difference between 10-6 and 9-7. it's a must win.
