Guy needs to grow up a bit for sure. Not the first time he's called out bills fans due to some comments on Twitter.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if he tries to leave.

All he has to do is read the commentary from fans on opt-outs from other teams to see our fanbase has been pretty chill about this.    CJ Mosley and Ja'Waun James certainly aren't getting the amount of love Tre is getting for their decisions.

Well this stupid take didn’t age well.

Are that many people attacking him?  Most Twitter takes I see, along with posters here have been pretty respectful.  Even those who aren’t thrilled about his potential decision are being pretty tame, IMO.

Head on over to the CJ Mosley takes from Jets fans if you want to see anger.

I don't have any problem at all with a guy wanting to opt out, for any reason, and I'm not going to criticise them for doing so.

I do believe though, that if White is saying that that's his reason (if it does come to it), then there's no real problem in calling it that.

I don't think that White is wanting to imply anything about anyone else, but I can see how some people can take it that way, but I also think that's making a mountain out of a molehill.

We had tweets from some of the Bills reporters, like say Matt Parrino, putting him on a pedestal saying “that’s the kind of father I want to be”... which on one hand, I get it... but I’ll admit that I immediately thought about all the other fathers on our team who opted in reading opinions like that, and I don’t think it makes them any less of a father.

I don't like the millionaire vs average joe logic. That's like telling somebody who is broke and homeless, well at least you don't have cancer. You always try and look at the positive but marginalizing somebody's circumstances by bringing up how much worse it could be just never made sense to me. When it comes to money, using the reverse logic, it just plays like sour apples. Tre, so many people have it worse than you, least you could do is be our entertainment. That doesn't come off as selfish to you? Past his money, he's a person with a family and was put on this planet to do a lot more than play football. Tre and his wife and family need to make the best decision for them as all of us do and we should support that.

I don’t think it’s crazy that during a pandemic where so many have lost jobs, lost careers and are struggling to get by, that people don’t have much patience for multi-millionaires complaining about everyday issues most folks are dealing with, sans the millions of dollars.

I mean, Bernie Sanders started an entire movement filled with people holding that sentiment.

That said, I watched the presser and came away thinking Tre has a good head on his shoulders and is putting the thought into this that I think any of us would in his situation.

I disagree. Unless we are scoring in the leagues top 5-7, which we have not proven we can be yet, you require a shut down corner. We will improve on offense no doubt , but without Tre you lose a superstar and a lot of margin for error. You now can’t shut down the other teams best WR because he may be the best CB in the league. I feel losing Tre is second to losing Josh in terms of Team W-L impact.     Let’s just hope tomorrow goes by and he stays and this is not something to worry about.

It certainly won’t be easy to have a Top 5 defense without him,  but there’s still a lot of talent on this defense, and I expect Edmunds and Oliver to make big jumps this year, combined with a DL, that (IMO) will be much better at rushing the passer.

Josh Allen has all the weapons he needs to operate a Top 10 Offense.  It’s up to him to get us there... and if he does, I think our defense is good enough to keep us in the conversation, even without Tre, EJ and Star.

Ill admit, KC scares me to death without Tre, but I do still think we can beat Baltimore plus win the division.

Watching that presser today gave me that gut feeling in his heart he was not playing this year. I don’t believe for a second it has anything to do with his contract.  He is all about family and I respect that.

The impact on the season would be devastating to the Bills. With him we are contenders for the whole thing. Without him we will contend for the division, but we can’t hang with the Chiefs or Ravens. He is worth at least 2-3 games on our record IMO.

I disagree.  With Allen making a jump, we’re contenders.  Without that, we’re contending for the division.... with or without Tre.

No Championship caliber team loses that ability because they lose a Cornerback.... even if that guy is the best DB in the league.   The fact remains, he’s on the Defensive side of the ball, in an Offensive League.   We still have Hyde, Poyer, Edmunds, Milano and a strong DL, led by McDermott and Frazier.  Our offense will just have to, dare I say.... be able to score.

    Another perspective I don't understand.

There is a better chance Tre gets the virus hanging out in Louisiana than he does playing in the NFL.  If he gets the virus down there, he is not going to have the testing he gets with the NFL.  If he gets it playing, at least he will know right away he has it.  He gets it in Louisiana, he won't get test results for days.  Best way to protect your family is to get tested the most.  The virus is everywhere, it's not like him not playing means he won't be exposed to it.

Tre’s explanation, aside from high risk players, is the first one that’s made sense to me.

Facilities seem more safe to me than being out with the general public, and I’m pretty sure the opt-out players aren’t locking down at home for months on end.

The mortality rate for these players is incredibly low, and for those who want to invoke lung damage as if that doesn’t happen every year to people with the flu - Respiratory viruses kill people and cause permanent damage to people every year.

His explanation of not being able to see his family for 5 months and/or his family having to live a certain way while he plays shows he’s actually put thought into this.

    I’d side-eye him a bit if I was a teammate, but I’d get it.

He was more mentioning how he doesn't want his family to have to live in lock down for 5 months, to protect him, thus protecting the team as a whole and/or him not seeing them for 5 months due to this.   Everyone's families have to buy in for this to work as well.

Tre opting out would be the biggest loss for any NFL team so far.

Tre, Star and EJ would definitely be up there with the Pats exodus - They'd have more opt-outs, but the impact players are pretty equal when Tre is factored in.

Prior to this potential move, i would put CJ Mosley or Ja'Waun James up there as the biggest loss.

Contract chatter - He said he is not in any hurry to get a new contract done. He said 'I am not hurting for money'. SO, how is this him leveraging for a new contract?

Family chatter - Someone said something about him not being with his family for 5 months. That's not the case. His concern is that his family and children would need to remain on quarantine for the duration of the season. He doesn't want that to happen. Again, stated in the interview/article.

Jealous non-athlete chatter - He is not you. You are not him. He is working within the framework that he has. You have to work within the framework that you have. Yes, if we were all independently wealthy with an endless list of options, that would be great. That is not reality. This is in no way an attack on folks that have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

I see him opting out tomorrow.

I agree with most of this.

My issue with him not playing, while others are back at work, isn't a Tre White criticism (he has every right to make a decision on what's best) but more of an eye-roll when others try to explain it away acting like the issues players face aren't exactly what everyone else is facing.

Yep.  They live in a totally different world than us.  Must be nice to make a lot of money playing a game.

He has every right to make the decision he may make, but yea... i'm not here for all these conversations acting like most people in this country aren't out here putting themselves, and their families, in harm's way every day of the week for pennies on the dollar of what these guys make.

Based on what i've seen from Buffalo, and their protocols, the facilities seem safer than going to the grocery store, but I get the argument about the restricted life your family will have to live for 5 months.

Hey, look at the bright side:

    1.  A man made a decision that is best for his family;

    2.  His contract tolls a year, helping our cap; and

    3.  It is unlikely in my opinion that we will be able to finish a season.

I'm pretty sure a season is happening.  If MLB can make it through the worst case scenario, the NFL is moving forward and not looking back.

    1 & 2 - yes, and yes.

Hopefully Beane has Logan Ryan's number on speed dial.

  13. Definitely don't get a good feeling about him playing based on those comments.

Definitely would be a big blow to the defense, but we still have a stud safety tandem, two stud linebackers and a strong DL.   Will just put that much more importance on Josh Allen's growth and the improvement of this offense.

Yeah, I can appreciate other teams while also having a Bills first mentality, I have the intellectual flexibility for it.

I'm making any team that plays the Broncos my B team, for you saying this.

I'm getting to a point where I'm rooting for Ford to do well at RT so this stupid belief that "rookies that don't excel their rookie year never get better" will go away forever.  You know who was not good their rookie year and got much better in year 2? Besides 90% of NFL players, the one that jumps to the top of my mind is Tremaine Edmunds. He was a train wreck as a rookie. Last year he climbed into the top 10 (top 15 depending on who you ask), and now he is considered one of the most promising up and coming LBs in the NFL.

If there’s ever a position where rookies struggle, it’s at Tackle.   If he struggles again this year, then yes, his future is at Guard, but clearly the staff thinks he has what it takes to be a strong RT.

Who else was showing interest? I'm not on twitter anymore, so I'm missing out on alot of these small updates.

I didn’t see any specific teams mentioned but multiple NFL reporters tweeted out, upon his being let go from the Jets, that he would likely be signed quick and have quite a few options.

  16. 2 minutes ago, BullBuchanan said:

No, but I do think it odd that Beane would double down and effectively box himself into a decision that didn't exactly prove to be the right one last season. Overall, I'd say Ford was a net negative last year at Tackle, and it's been a very common suggestion that he'd be a better guard.

Ill admit that I was interested in Ford at RG, given he was projected as a stud G in the Draft.

That said, most rookie Tackles struggle.  I’m not sure how to evaluate guys on the OL and how to project a young guy developing, but clearly this staff wants Cody Ford at RT, all things being equal.

Jets fans weren't too thrilled about Winters.

How does Winters REALLY grade out?

From what they’ve said.. Sounds like he played injured a lot and struggled as the lead guy on their dumpster fire OL.

Ford, as of now, isn’t any great shakes next to him (yet) but Morse is legit at C and the left side of our line is pretty good, so he’s surrounded by a lot more talent here.

  18. I'm warming up to the idea of playing Cody Ford at RG.   He was projected as a stud at that position in the Draft.

To me, i'd rather have solid to above-average play at 4/5 positions on the OL, with RT being a question mark and Darryl Williams and Ty Nsehke competing for that spot.

Of course, RT is more important than RG and they have invested a rookie year in breaking in Ford there.  If he makes a jump, i'll certainly trust the staff keeping him there.

No need to go out signing guys, especially if they're only on one year deals... We have depth, just roll over everything into next year so we can do what we need to do even if the cap is $174 mil.
