So now the Titans can't open up practice to, at best, Saturday, the day before the game.

Would the NFL actually make them  play a game 24 hours later, assuming they can open on Saturday!?

Not sure how this game can be played on Sunday.

Could it be flexed to Monday?  And still allow the Bills to play on Thursday night against the Chiefs on 1 day prep time after a day of rest?

Seems they would.. League has come out and said the game is still on, as scheduled.

  2. Only team that actively seems like it’s tanking are the Jets.

That could also just be the remnants of the worst GM ever, mixed with poor moves made by the new GM...

I know they have high hopes for Douglas, but the Robbie Anderson departure, mixed in with only taking one WR in a loaded WR draft, look pretty bad right now.

Becton looks good, but that’s the only guy he’s brought in who can even seem to get on the field.....and now he’s hurt.

Im in my mid-30’s.  Im not worried about COVID at all - but if I knew catching it would screw my team up, I’d worry from that standpoint alone.

I'm pretty sure there is a waiting period on signing new players.  Cuz, you know, Covid protocols?  I'm 100% sure a virus screening is required procedure before letting any new player through your doors, like comon think about it for two seconds.

Also can anyone save me 22 pages of scanning and tell me if anyone knows the circumstances around Newton getting it?  I absolutely wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was out partying or something.

Nobody knows yet, but my suspicion is he got it trying on scarves at the Ann Taylor outlet.

How many consecutive days of no new positives will be enough for them to be able to practice? To play another team? Three? Since they've been physically separated since Tuesday, it could be reasonably expected for the positives to stop soon. If they were to have their last positive Monday, I'd say they could play maybe Sunday or Monday. I really don't like the Bills having to go into their facility. Maybe move the venue?

Agreed.  The positives “should” fizzle out soon.

They’ve already had a game postponed and jacked up the Steelers bye week.

If they can play, they need to play.  Enough is enough for this team.  Move the game to Monday or Tuesday, if needed, and then move Bills/Chiefs to Sunday Night/Monday Night.

It looks like the whole thing started with them bringing in a Free agent who tested negative but then was positive?... hmm.

Even so, did the entire team run up to the free agent and take turns mouth kissing him?... There are protocols in place to prevent a team-wide outbreak (distancing, testing, contact tracing etc).. This is just getting absurd.

I think we should expect this to happen.

Florio is a bit of a tool, but he’s become something of a test subject for NFL media. If you’ve noticed, he’ll often proffer a “suggestion” to the league that ends up either being implemented or at least discussed. My take is that someone from the league will feed him ideas that the NFL is considering, and he’ll post them as his suggestions.

It’s a Quid Pro Quo—the league gets to see the reaction from fans before they move forward, and Florio gets credit for coming up with a great idea for the league and the game.

As to the idea itself, I think a 2 week break makes sense. Gives the league enough time to restructure the schedule to 12 games, get teams bubbled and tested (and quarantined as necessary), and jump back into a schedule that adds 2 weeks of “make up games” in case outbreaks occur.

With the Saints re-test negative, we’re back to one outbreak on the Titans, and then one positive on the Falcons last week that was successfully contained, now one positive on the Pats and one on the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs and Pats follow protocol and successfully contain it, I’d say the Titans are the outlier and the NFL protocols are working....if not, then I’d expect harsh reinforcement of protocols/penalties this week.... should more teams experience issues, then perhaps the league pauses to reassess, but that’s such a bad look for the league.  ....especially when no other league would have had to do that upon restart and we’re all watching CFB during the pause.

I don’t think anyone is saying cancel the whole season. MLB was on hiatus for a few months

Same with the NBA, but that was when we didn’t know anything about this.  Once they reopened, they had a season without pause.

NFL pausing while we have college football games, with fans in the stands, is just something I don’t see happening.

  9. I will say, while I don’t believe this report at all, a “pause” would be such a horrible optic for the NFL.

Every other league went into this with a plan, executed it (in MLB’s case, with bumps in the road) and had their season with minor interruptions.

CFB is revving up to a full slate of conference games by November, and you have teams like Virginia Tech playing games without 20+ players, gutting their way through it.  Some games postponed, see Notre Dame etc.

For the NFL to have to recalibrate for what everyone had to assume was inevitable, would be quite the admission of failure on a league level.

All you people smugly laughing about posts like this. I get it that you want the league to continue, but I don't understand why that has to translate into annoying behavior like this. Clearly things are not looking great right now. We currently have at least 5 teams with problems, and the trends are not good. Admitting it won't hurt you.

Everyone talking about the MLB ignores the fact that the weather is changing and the cases appear to be skyrocketing.

Both sides get annoying with this.   It’s just as annoying when people knee jerk pontificate about shutting down the season.

Who knows, it could happen, but I’d be shocked if MLB figured it out and CFB is revving up to a full slate by November, yet the NFL is the only major sport to close up shop.

I just can’t see any way no one else was infected. I know yesterday’s tests came back negative, but there’s indistinguishable incubation period. Cam practiced all week with his teammates. All of a sudden he’s positive stepping on the plane and no onther Pat* is?

    I’m not buying it.

Falcons managed to contain it to one player.

Vikings didn’t get it after playing the Titans.

If the Pats/Chiefs can keep it contained, that would be a huge boost to the NFL, leaving only the Titans who had an outbreak.   If not, we could have problems.
