Not sure if he has anything left in the tank. He’s had an underwhelming career, but if he’s truthful about finally being healthy, I could see his speed/shiftiness being utilized in the McKenzie role - if McKenzie ends up holding down a heavy slot role.
-
I think we may have an abundance of talent… For the life of me, I don’t get why people gush over our WR room (at the moment). Diggs - elite Davis - could be a 1A, but we’ll see That’s it in terms of guys I’m completely sold on. ………… McKenzie - Decent role player Shakir - Intriguing Rookie Crowder - Good slot WR, hurt a lot Austin - ??? Stevenson - ??? Kumerow - No Could they be great? Yea, absolutely. There’s certainly potential, but the reason people fear this passing game is 80% Allen, 20% WR’s, currently.
-
This is what it looks like to me as well. Austin sounds like he’s shown a few things so far. Same with Shakir. And McKenzie seems to be taking his opportunity and running with it. If all that continues, big if, I could see Crowder as a cut and the Bills going with Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Shakir, Austin and Kumerow. Potentially Stevenson if he can show anything as an outside WR.
-
I'm to the point where I think Diggs, Davis, Shakir and McKenzie are 100% locks. Crowder I'd put around 90% and dropping if he stays struggling to get on the field. I wouldn't cut Crowder to keep a guy like Kumerow, but I would cut him if McKenzie/Shakir look the part and then use his money on a vet outside WR.
-
Shakir seems like he could be a repeat of Gabriel Davis. Really good WR, mocked by many as a Day 2 pick, who drops in an elite WR draft. Bills take them early on Day 3 and put them in a perfect situation where they learn from a Top 5 WR in Diggs, with arguably the best QB in the league throwing them the ball. If Crowder keeps missing practice, I'll be getting closer to irrationally declaring him a surprise cut because Shakir needs to be on the field more.

David/White at 6'1/6'0 are the best LB tandem in the NFL... I wouldn't rule out a potential future where Bernard and Milano are the tandem here, should Edmunds and the Bills not find common ground on a contract.
-
Love this. I think Elam is an absolute dog and, after Sauce/Stingley, he's the guy I wanted. Would legitimately be surprised if Elam isn't a future star in this defense.
-
I’m certainly in the “Who is behind Diggs & Davis, and don’t you dare say Kumerow” crowd.. That being said, I do not care at all that we didn’t sign Julio Jones. If we’re going to vet route for depth, I’d rather call Emmanuel Sanders. Ideally Khalil Shakir shows he can play outside and becomes a depth piece we can move all over the alignment.

Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
SCBills replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s more about the states than the cities. Atlanta/Miami are nothing like NYC/LA Maybe he doesn’t want to deal with NY/NJ/CA/IL/DC but the Rust Belt states and South/Midwest are fine. -
Maybe, but I think we have a - potentially - very talented rookie class. Elam vs Diggs in camp is going to be fun to follow. Cook is just a very electric player. He should be making linebackers look silly. Shakir impressing is the one that has my attention because his drop in the draft sounds very similar to how we got Gabriel Davis. Hitting on Shakir would be massive in our ability to work the cap with the upcoming (likely) Davis extension next offseason.

The training camp reports coming in about our rookies have me already venturing into "unrealistic expectations" territory...

You don't pay safeties, linebackers, or interior linemen.
SCBills replied to unbillievable's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yea, the whole "don't pay certain positions" applies when you're paying a QB top tier money. Otherwise, a team can throw money around idiotically and not get burned, see Jacksonville with Lawrence on a rookie contract. I think we're ok if guys like Poyer & Edmunds are willing to take representative contracts that give them a pay bump, but aren't coming close to resetting the market or matching those contracts that have. If they want to get PAID... I don't know how you do that with Allen's contract kicking in and a potential stud WR on the horizon due for a new contract, potentially, next offseason. -

But who do we classify as “impactful players” vs “role players”? I feel most would classify Von, Oliver, Edmunds, Milano, White, Poyer and Hyde as “impact players”. Is Taron Johnson an impact player? We needed a legit 1 tech.. is Daquan Jones an impact player? Both have decent contracts. Above role player level contracts, at least. The rest of the guys are on rookie contracts or prove it type deals.. I suppose that’s how you can make it work financially. Eventually though, you can’t have everyone being paid as impact players.. Even if they all are impact players. Perhaps it all works out with the cap exploding and Poyer/Hyde likely near the end by the time the young guys come due (if they’re worth it). All I ask is that there is money in the bank for Knox & Davis and that Allen is protected up front. -
I hope so.. would love for Stevenson to take WR7 and be that outside speed depth. In order, my hopes for WR6/7 go Stevenson then Austin then Kumerow... but I'll believe Kumerow isn't on the 53 when I see it. Sounds like Shakir has really impressed through the first two days of camp and seems to show the ability to play outside as well.

Bills ranked dead last in YAC last season.
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with a lot of this as well. Allen is money on those intermediate lasers.. instead of a 7 yard slant that the WR takes another 7-10 yards, Allen just throws a 15-20 yard frozen rope down the field. That definitely accounts for some of this. The issue I have is that we forget how stuck in the mud this team could get until we started running Josh. That needs to stop moving forward (playoffs aside). I think our coaches understand that and will address is on two fronts.. stronger run game and stronger YAC game. Part of that is Dorsey (hopefully) scheming up some short/easy throws into space as an extension of the run game. I believe we'll see a handful more runs from Singletary/Cook/Moss per game, but I truly believe/hope the short passing game to Cook, Crowder, McKenzie, perhaps Shakir etc., will be a bigger focus to take some of the stress off Allen's legs in the regular season. Come Playoff time, if we are more well rounded, and then we can simply run Allen because we want to.. this Offense will be absurd. -

Maybe we play KC at home if someone could catch the ball and not immediately fall down. Im being condescending, but notice how Mahomes, Rodgers and Burrow are on that list in the top 3 spots where our guy had no running game - either from a back or wr - unless the ball was in his hands. The fact Josh dealt with all that and still did everything in his power to be 13 seconds away from a likely Super Bowl appearance is a testament to him. -

Cook and Shakir were two YAC draft picks. Crowder and McKenzie give us more YAC ability than Beasley. More athletic line under Kromer likely lends itself to, at least attempting, more screen action. -

It’s a valid stat to point out. Yes, Allen can get better at short pass ball placement (which he’s working on).. However, it highlights - again - how Josh Allen dependent we were. Below average run game and dead last in YAC. That’s asking your QB to do way too much. Cook & Shakir were two YAC monsters in college so let’s hope they translate. -
Buffalo Bills rookies report to training camp today!
SCBills replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m actually really interested in our rookies this year. -James Cook role -Terrel Bernard’s role -Can Shakir play outside or are we rockin with Diggs, Davis and an army of slot WR’s -Punt god Elam is a guy I just expect to be good, tbh, but the other 4 main guys are pretty intriguing. -
Its true that most teams aren’t 3 deep on the outside with stud talent, but most here aren’t concerned we don’t have a proven outside WR3.. Most are concerned that we have no outside WR3. Kumerow - Special Teams / Emergency Depth Crowder - Slot McKenzie - Slot Maybe Shakir projects outside?

The only Josh Allen Run That Needs to Go Away
SCBills replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall
Re: Josh running.. Designed Josh runs should be reserved for "and goal" situations in the regular season only. Then unleash him in the playoffs. We signed Saffold, brought in Kromer, drafted YAC guys in Cook and Shakir. Get him easy throws as an extension of the run game and then designate Moss/Singletary for short yardage stuff. With the talent on this team, there is zero reason that we should be running Allen on zone read keepers in the open field in Week 12. -
A bigger, faster Gabriel Davis from last season is a #1 WR. Beane gonna to have to go full wizard mode to get these contracts done if all these dudes hit.

2 Preseason Games 18 Regular Season Games 2 Bye Weeks They can start the season first weekend of September, like College Football, and/or go deeper into February. Nobody cares about anything but football until March Madness anyway.
