I’m definitely not Singletary’s biggest fan, but he’s average to above-average at pretty much everything, and I can definitely see the Bills using him as the workhorse if he continues his strong play from end of last season. He almost always makes the first guy miss in the open field. His biggest downside is lacking that long speed so it’s a lot of doubles and never any home runs.

This. If we want the #1 seed, it’s best to root for inter-division friction. The Texans are a joke. Maybe the Jags can be somewhat dangerous, albeit likely not very good. Colts cakewalk division becomes that much easier.

Crowder is good. Would be awful for McKenzie to have such a strong preseason, only to sit Week One and potentially watch Crowder play great and risk losing the starting role he won.

I'm pretty convinced they will, mainly because I think he's going to have a huge year behind this DL. I think Milano then gets traded in the offseason and we bump Bernard up to his spot. Maybe they find a way to keep him, but with Allen's contract hitting and guys like Davis, Knox and Oliver coming due.. I think it will be tough. Hopefully the cap goes silly and it all works out. -

Our ST trio are 29, 30 and 34 in Matekevich, Kumerow and Taiwan Jones. OP’s point is worth noting, but definitely a bit misleading in terms of concern. Our QB, WR’s, TE, LT, RT, RG, RB, DT, DE, LB and CB rooms are all young outside Von and some DT rotational guys. The Safeties, IOL and some role players really sway our aggregate team age. -

Agreed. Which is why making the right decision on him will be important. Whether that’s re-signing him and trading Milano or letting him walk. I don’t necessarily see a way both are here next year. If we want to extend Davis, Knox and Oliver in the near term.. I’m not sure how that happens with both of Edmunds & Milano plus Poyer all on the roster past this year. Regardless… Edmunds, Epenesa, Knox and Oliver to an extent… we need guys to make an impact before Year 3. And we can’t miss on too many guys like Ford. That’s how we stay a SB contender year in/year out and avoid a “rebuild/reload” year. Hitting on guys like Davis and Shakir, along with having a very young group of seemingly talented corners behind Tre bodes well for their ability to continually keep big $$$ positions like CB and WR well stocked, given our new world of late round draft picks. -

Not worried at all about this. Miller, Saffold, Morse, Quessenberry, Hyde, Poyer, Crowder and Kumerow are the 30+ guys as key contributors. IOL, Safety and depth WR aren’t exactly big money positions, and top prospects are typically available around the time we draft RD1 and on Day 2. We found Davis and Shakir on Day 3. The bigger issue is guessing right on what to do with Edmunds, Oliver, Knox and Davis. As long as Beane keeps drafting well, this isn’t an issue. The only critique would be that he’ll have to hit quicker on the early picks so that we’re not entering Year 3 still waiting for that jump. -
"Maybe" the young outside corners struggle, but I refuse to worry about starting a RD1 rookie and Dane Jackson when the rest of the Defense is as follows: Von Miller - Ed Oliver - Daquan Jones - Greg Rousseau AJ Epenesa - Tim Settle - Jordan Phillips - Boogie Basham - Shaq Lawson Tremaine Edmunds - Matt Milano - Taron Johnson Jordan Poyer - Micah Hyde Figure. It. Out.

McCloud, Tenuta, Tanner Owen, Kingsley Jonathan claimed off waivers

Further evidence re: State of OL play in the NFL For all the hand wringing here, at least we're not in a position to where we need to claim Luke Tenuta or Tanner Owen.- 89 replies

Our new punter will be (Update pg. 38 - Martin Signed)
SCBills replied to JMM's topic in The Stadium Wall
Johnson also needs to be re-signed, but would obviously be much cheaper than Poyer. If they are serious about keeping Davis, I'd lock him down next offseason. If not, then they could end up losing him when his rookie deal is up. Definitely will be expensive. -

My guess: -Singletary and Poyer walk in the offseason. -Saffold is potentially re-signed -Edmunds gets paid and Milano is traded -Knox, Oliver and Davis are all long term Bills -

Eh.. I wouldn't lose my mind over it. I've certainly been a "For the love of God, draft Offense early" poster, but the positions we may be looking to address in this coming draft are more Day 2/Mid-Round positions (IOL, TE, RB, Depth WR). -

Agree, but an extra mil here and there adds up. We were thinking we had a punter on the cheap for the next 4 years. I'll allow it, as long as the people saying "just pay him" stop saying "just pay Poyer". -
OJ Howard expected to sign with Bengals (update: signs with Texans)

After seeing some of Morris tape from the preseason, both blocking and his catches... that dude looks like he can play. The athleticism/receiving aspect was never in question, but if he can block now... that guy could be a legit TE2. -
Not sure.. I was only in the car for about 7 minutes, but the entire time they were discussing Poyer (presumably) on the heels of the Chauncey Gardner-Johnson trade today.
-
Just jumped in the car and threw on WGR and they are talking A LOT about a potential Poyer trade…
-
They may have been #1, but they were not the best defense in the NFL.. That was more a byproduct of facing weak QB's disproportionately. They were more along the lines of a Top 10 Defense that lacked any gamechangers. This year, I'd be shocked if they are the #1 statistical defense, based on SOS.. but also shocked if they aren't one of, if not the, scariest defense in the NFL.

A lot of it is potential. The Bills Offense has the potential to be much better than last year. Also with the potential to be less dependent upon Josh Allen. -Bills OL hinges on Bates and Brown's development. Saffold, even at his age, is an upgrade over LG last year. Quessenberry is an upgrade as swing tackle and is likely at least on par with RT last year if he the starter. Kromer is a massive upgrade in coaching. -WR room hinges upon Davis and McKenzie. I'm comfortable with that. This unit has the potential to be much more explosive than last year. -RB is much improved. Singletary in a contract year, healthy Moss and the addition of James Cook. -TE room is basically the same. It is what it is.
-
A lot of people are going to be surprised at how explosive Cook makes our Offense. We didn't just add a running back with that pick. He's a RB/WR hybrid.
-
Looks about right to me. Barkley to PS. Smith suspended. McCloud or Lewis cut once we sign a punter, and then the other is cut when Tre White comes back. Van Roten likely cut once Boettger comes back.
-
Fans are discussing cap space, not if the Pegula's are out a couple million. If they were able to find a trade partner for Howard, we go from 10M in cap space to 12M in cap space.
-
It's a bit frustrating that we spent a couple mil that could've been used anywhere else on a flyer for a guy who never even makes it out of the preseason, but it is what it is... Domino effect from the McKissic shenanigans is real.. McKissic dips, we give his money to Howard, draft Cook and then cut Howard. I'd rather have Cook than McKissic, by far.. but if McKissic signed, we aren't out dead cap and likely use our RD2 pick on a different position.
-
The context I’d give in regards to our WR draft capital investment is that we took Davis (RD4) and Shakir (RD5) in two of the more loaded WR drafts in recent memory. Both guys had Day 2 grades from a lot of analysts, and in other drafts, maybe go there. That being said, I do agree that moving forward, it would be nice to spend a Day 1 or 2 pick on a WR for once.. just not sure they’ll need to with Diggs, Davis and Shakir all likely in their long term plans. Cook is a guy I’m hesitant to throw into the “Running Back” category. The guy could become a legit WR if he focused on it.
