Nothing wrong with not wanting a RB to eat up a whole bunch of cap. I am of the mind we shouldn't either (even though I love Cook as a player).
But the insults and acting personally offended bc he's making it known he's not happy about how negotiations are going, which is based in his wanting to be here (or else why would he be upset with it?), by fans is ridiculous and unnecessary.
I don’t love it, but as a RB, I get it.
That said, he’s also not Saquon getting tagged. Hes a 2 down RB until he learns how to pass pro, that has a year left on his deal.
Where I just want him off the team for a draft pick is the not one, not two, but three or four comments/emojis he made in reference to the Saquon contract. My man.. you are not Saquon, and you’ve made your point very known even prior to that.

Not your money. They could structure a deal where he get's 15M in cash each year and the cap hit is closer to 10M. All you should care about is the cap hit.
Ok, I’m just a millennial that doesn’t want to pay a 2 down RB a 10M cap hit. -

Is Saquon Barkley childish? Because he did the same thing two years ago when the Giants tagged him.
Saquon got tagged.
Cook has a year left on his deal.
Two very different scenarios.
And if Cook wants to take this route, so be it, Bills should trade him to someone willing to pay that for an electric RB that can’t pass block. It shouldn’t be a team with a soon to be 60M QB.

Fair enough, I agree with most of your first paragraph.
The social media stuff is the way it is nowadays. He isnt the first to do it, and wont be the last. And he wont be the first to do it and still get a big contract. Fans are best off just ignoring it since it simply does not matter.
My whole point is, I dont think these other guys not making any noise has anything to do with them getting extensions. If anything, it's more that none of them are on the same level as Cook and are just happy to be getting any 2nd contract in the NFL whatsoever. They're all mid-tier players. Cook is a top 5 (3?) RB in a league that has recently seen a resurgence in RBs.
IMO, getting Cook re-signed is where Beane makes his actual money. Anyone can get guys like Bernard or Shakir to sign a $12M/yr deal. Keeping top talent like Cook is what we really need to see.
Funny how different opinions on him can be.
I’d give Beane that credit if he got a second or high third for him.

Kinda glad he’s not an option for us.
Samuel looked good when healthy, but until he proves he has any health longevity, I view him as a .5 receiver on this roster.

That only matters for one year deals. If we want to pay someone like Hendrickson or Metcalf, their contract is going to line up with the three contracts we just handed out. So yes extending this caliber of player absolutely makes it more difficult to add a top tier talent when one becomes available.
I think the gamble Beane might also be making is that if we hand out a big contract or two this offseason, while outside void years, there may not be much flex… in these extensions, the hope is likely that once the big money hits for Rousseau and Shakir (maybe Bernard) that it’s time for another extension. Especially Rousseau given how young he is.. he’ll be in his prime when his deal comes up.-

Beane giving everyone 4 year deals this year?

I wasn’t crazy to see this deal because it likely means Buffalo isn’t coming away with a Myles Garrett type player. I like Rosseau, I just don’t think he’s ever going to be in the top tier of difference makers at DE.
Beane is clearly banking on potential with this signing and reminds me a lot Ed Oliver a few years back.
I’m increasingly thinking Garrett is a pipe dream the way Cleveland is handling this.
I think Hendrickson is a very distinct possibility and I’m starting to be more open to simply signing Josh Sweat if a trade isn’t going to be possible.

IDK how I feel about this. As a lot of posters alluded, he disappears for stretches. I feel like the money could’ve been better invested to a high level FA or trade. We are not a rebuilding team. The Bills are literally 2 blue chip players away from dethroning KC.
Maybe Beane knows something we don’t? Maybe he realizes Garrett/Crosby/Metcalf will be unattainable? The positives are he is a homegrown player that can rack up 8-10 sacks along w/ being force against the run.
Going into year 5 does he have the chance to get better? I’ll give the Tremaine Edmunds argument that he is still only 24. We shall see. Trust the process !
Fair points.
If the plan is to address the DL through the Draft by signing a mercenary EDGE and drafting a DT early, I can see that being underwhelming.
If the idea is pay Rousseau and then make a big trade or sign Sweat AND use an early pick on the DL… I see the vision.
I think Beane realizes that a talented, big/physical 1T needs to be next to Ed Oliver. And I think Beane realizes a legitimate 10+ sack guy needs to be opposite Rousseau.
That can be accomplished via trade, signing a guy like Sweat and through the Draft, but we very clearly still need 2-3 new pieces on the DL.

Said it in the Bernard extension thread. Pressure to not backslide this season. But moves like this also limit the team’s ability to improve.
I think moves like this make it very clear they are looking to drastically improve this year.
Rousseau at up to 20M per year, along with the cap savings, along with the structures of Shakir (and likely Bernard’s) contract, make it pretty clear they are locking up young players at team friendly contract structures, with the hope further extensions are warranted when the big money hits.
This, in turn, provides cap clarity and opens up cap for more established players they may want to pay immediately in FA or via trade.
Will certainly be interesting to see if they’re comfortable with extending Bernard and/or have any common ground to be found with Cook.

That’s a lot for a guy who disappears as often as he does.
20M per year for Rousseau is on the low end of what many thought he’d get. He's not a Batman, but he and Oliver could be two big time Robin’s on an improved DL.

yes, that cluster occurred among migrants. It spread among the unvaccinated just like the current one
maybe you should give up on commenting on microbiology
People might take you seriously that you’re actually concerned about measles outbreaks if you didn’t then default lib and deflect when people point out the very real issue of unvaccinated, and many times unhealthy, illegal migrants flooding the border for the past 4 years.-

As Rashee Rice will soon find out, Worthy committed this crime in the worst state of the 50 states. In New York, this would be a slap on the wrist Class A midsemeanor. In Texas, it's a third-degree felony. Also, the family member can't simply drop charges, and especially not if it's a woman. It will be up to the state. He has a very long offseason ahead and I'd say a certain suspension.
The Chiefs will be without Worthy and Rice week 1, in all likelihood. Hollywood is unsigned. Smith-Schuster is unsigned. Justin Watson is unsigned. Mecole Hardman is unsigned.
That means the Chiefs Week 1 offense, as it stands currently, could consist of:
QB - Mahomes
Left tackle - Empty Hole
Left guard - Empty hole (All Pro Thuney out, likely 2nd year draft bust steps in)
Center - Creed Humphrey (elite)
Right guard - Trey Smith (very good)
Right Tackle - Jawaan Taylor (terrible)
RB - Isaiah Pacheco (has fallen off a cliff, always injured)
WR - Skyy Moore (draft bust, sat out most of 2024)
WR - Niko Remigio (special teams player)
WR - Justyn Ross (practice squad)
WR - Tyquan Thornton (who?)
TE - Travis Kelce (washed)
Doesn’t really matter what they look like Week 1.
They lead the league in arrests by an absurd margin and go to the Super Bowl every year.
Come Playoffs, both Rice and Worthy will be out there.
I get people using this as ammo supporting why we didn’t pick him, but he’ll be out there when it matters.. just like Chiefs players always are.

I think the Bills will extend Benford.
I think Benford is very good.
Im not sure I’d do it this offseason..
Id ship out Elam, sign a vet opposite Benford, then draft two corners. If Benford stays healthy all year and comes up clutch in the postseason, bite the bullet and extend him.. but I’d wait and see, even if it ends up costing us a few million extra per year.
And if we like what’s developing behind him, we can tag and trade.

It’s a good deal (if) we build up the DL in front of him.
Just like a Rousseau extension makes sense (if) he’s a supporting actor on the DL.
I think Bernard is a monster when able to play in space.
The hesitation is simply that we have guys who are dependent upon getting better around them, which is emblematic of the lack of game changers we’ve had lately.

Hopefully the plan is to put a much better DL in front of him that allows him to thrive in space.
Something he didn’t have last year, and it showed.

Von Released, Frees Up $8.4M Cap Space
in The Stadium Wall
Posted
Remember flying out to LA and seeing him dominate opening night. 70% of the stadium were Bills fans and we were all convinced we were winning it all with him.
Then he got hurt and could never get back to form.
Sad it played out this way, and it seemed like a restructured deal was going to be worked out, but at the end of the day… this is probably for the best.
