With all due moderator respect....this single thread is devoted to the recent stadium financing deal. As best as I've been able to read, almost all of the comments (both pro and con) have been limited to that very topic, and it feels like everyone has been rather respectful....even in their varied opinions. My two cents. Thanks! Now we're on the same topic. 🙂 Yes, in general construction projects are an excellent expenditure of public money. Some people think the funds are poured down the drain. They aren't. Construction projects take tax money and put them immediately back in the private sector from which the tax money came in the first place, with only a small fraction going to public administration.

Funny you mention Edmunds. I was flipping through channels last night and caught the first half of the Week 5 Bills Chiefs game on NFLN. Milano was out but they must’ve called Klein’s name for flying to the ball at least a half dozen times. I never heard them say Edmunds name …once.

The very best use of public money is construction. The money stays local, is immediately multiplied back out into the private sector economy and the community gets an asset that’ll generally last for decades. Can anyone name a better use?

Why is any of this the least bit surprising? Why do you think politicians and even retired politicians have secret service details assigned to them? If you don’t think the government knew about and warned Joe Biden about the crap his son was involved in then you’ve got your head in the sand! Of course they knew, and of course Joe was warned… but he just lost his other son so they all looked the other way and hoped foreign adversaries wouldn’t notice. Like everything else….this is NOT complicated.

As has often been said…that photo is of the Tottenham stadium in NE London…which by the way is SUPER modern looking both inside and out. It’s style is the complete opposite of the Seattle and/or Indianapolis stadiums as some on here have promoted over the years.

People can say what they want of Barkley as a QB but I thought he brought much needed positive attitude and support for Josh on the sideline. He was always laughing and very engaged. I don’t recall Mitch doing much of anything on the sideline last year. This is not to say that his role is to be the court jester but I’ll bet that when Josh’s career is done he’ll make it a point to thank guys like Barkley for helping him in his transition to professional football.

People please. Construction projects may just be the ONLY decent investment that your government can make. At their core they are JOBS programs. They put tax money directly back into the LOCAL economy but unlike other ‘socials’ programs they make the people receiving the money actually work for the reward and provide actual training as opposed to the usual waste we hear about in ‘training’ programs. On top of all that, the end product stays with society for what’s often in excess of a half century. Does anyone cry about the $20 million that Rich Stadium cost back in 1972? Of course not!

Early on in my many decades long experience of working with public agencies I would get frustrated as to why nothing ever seemed to move along and nobody seemed to be trying to help. A VERY wise and experienced client of mine told me “you don’t understand…they aren’t trying to move anything and the certainly don’t want to declare anything finished….there’s no incentive for them.” From that point on I slept much better and avoided the ulcer. Trump’s problem was that while he’d probably also heard it, he hadn’t fully digested that advice. He figured…I’m the President, they’ll listen to me….we’ll get stuff done…nope!

Many on here know that I’m an architect that designs large public commissions. Yes, the cost and availability of construction materials go up and down all the time just like the price of oil that you’re all so familiar with. The pandemic made it REALLY problematic. I can tell you that we don’t pay much attention to it on projects of this size. Trying to time the construction market is a fool’s errand. Our timelines from design to construction are simply far too long.

On a related note...everyone should go back to the first post in the Covid thread. Go back and read through the first page or two....it's fascinating now knowing where this all ended up.
