Labor Day Weekend: Should be opening day for NFL
SoCal Deek replied to mannc's topic in The Stadium Wall
And the funny part is that when I turned on ABC to watch it, DirecTV has a blank screen saying they are in a fight with Disney over fees! So....no ABC, ESPN etc for DirecTV subscribers. -
Labor Day Weekend: Should be opening day for NFL

This shouldn't be complicated. They obviously don't want anyone wearing white pants to NFL games. -
I wasn’t saying I agreed with the prediction….But would you trade the Super Bowl victory if meant the Bills would 4-13 a couple years later?

Which Team Has The Best Weapons In The NFL?
SoCal Deek replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m guessing weapons means receivers and running backs but NOT quarterback? If you exclude the QB does it even matter? It’s like having a quiver loaded with arrows but no bow. -

49ers first round draft pick Ricky Pearsall shot in San Francisco
SoCal Deek replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
You got all of that from me simply asking if you’ve been to California? I was just curious having lived here for over forty years. Have a nice day. -

So the palpable decline is inevitable? Fabulous! 😉 -
Interesting. The prediction that stands out to me is the Rams at 4-13. I often wonder if I’d trade that all elusive Super Bowl victory if I knew the Bills would be 4-13 just a couple years later. I think I would.

You seem desperate to bring politics into this. Or maybe to avoid it. The fact remains that these once beautiful California cities are virtually unrecognizable. -

Why? Do you believe people aren’t honestly concerned or praying for this young man? -
My take is slightly different. As Shaw laid out, this newest version of the Bills brings so many questions that I’m going into 2024 with zero expectations for the level of success we’ve seen in recent years. So after SIXTY seasons of faithfully following this franchise I’ll go into 2024 looking to be nothing more than pleasantly surprised. And that just may be the outlook that finally opens this seemingly impossibly locked door. Go Bills

NFL feeding itself to the sharks (Private Equity)
SoCal Deek replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Understood....but see my post above. The NFL is not like other industries. Where's the growth potential for the Buffalo Bills? The team is essentially a branch office of a larger league. They are not allowed to 'grow' into Cleveland for example. The better analogy might be if a PE firm bought into a single branch office of a large accounting firm. That branch isn't allowed to 'grow' into the sales/client territory of a neighboring branch, nor would they be allowed to set off on a new marketing or branding strategy. -
Bobby Babich to call Bills' Defense
SoCal Deek replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ve not been a huge McD fan but I tend to agree here, if he trusts his decision to delegate the play calling. It’s an easy thing to ‘try’ and do, but when the games get tight (and they always do) it’ll be a true mark of maturity if he trusts his decision to let Babich make the all important call. -
NFL feeding itself to the sharks (Private Equity)

In general you’re correct, but in an ‘industry’ like professional football that doesn’t operate under the standard competitive free market competition that acts as the check and balance in other industries it might prove to be a serious problem. For example, if a team doesn’t need to win to collect the shared television revenue then where’s the incentive to a soulless private equity firm? Just cut players and front office salaries and fly under the cap radar. -
Really? Unlikely? I don’t see it that way.

I'm not sure what people expect. The Bills went all in a couple of years ago in hopes of overtaking the Chiefs after 13 seconds, and an AFC Championship game during Covid. It did not work. They advanced no further than they had leading up to that point. Now, the piper had to be paid, so we'll see if they can keep the engine running with rubber bands and duct tape in 2024 while still playing a schedule fit for a reigning Division Champion. Enjoy the ride!

People focus on the playoff losses to the Chiefs, but in reality you can toss in the "at least we got there" loss to the Jaguars, and another classic meltdown to the Texans. Altogether it's a pretty pathetic playoff record....but it's more fun that watching other teams in January.

People have put it many different ways but it ultimately comes down to playing and coaching ‘in the moment’. Many look back fondly on the success of the ‘90s teams but those teams were really not all that different from the current rendition. But, Kelly and the gang didn’t get punched in the face until the Super Bowl each year. This group is facing that same punch but now in the AFC playoff rounds trying to get past KC.

Listening to Beane it appears the all encompassing comment that describes the ‘24 Bills going into the Regular Season….” I like the depth and due to circumstances we’ll be learning on the fly.” This same quote applies to: Wide Receiver Linebacker Secondary And so, away we go!

All this chatter about a punt returner? Really? While at the same time we keep a fullback as a legacy luxury and a field goal kicker who can’t seem to keep it between the uprights.

Recovers from his newfound apathetic play and overall lack of quality play? There’s a timeline for that kind of thing? Who knew?

There are TWO byes this year?

Agreed and understood, but like most been very unimpressed with Trubisky this summer.

I’m sure you’re correct but it’s just one more example of how utterly meaningless preseason has become …and how the NFL has to increase the roster size. We couldn’t even get out of ONE practice game without our quarterback going down.
