  1. Not sure if it’s been posted but the very next day, Opening Friday, is the Brazil international game between Green Bay and Philadelphia. So at least those teams get the travel thing done before it impacts other games in their schedule. Now THAT makes sense!

  2. Wasn’t sure whether to put this in the stadium construction thread or here but since it’s about financing I chose this thread.

Jacksinville’s upgrade/makeover is budgeted at $1.2 million and is a 50/50 split between the Jaguars and the City…. not the State of Florida. They also report the public funding piece to be investment, not a cost, (typical) as the newly envisioned stadium is forecasted to bring in billions over  the course of the 30 year lease.

    So there’s that.

As has been stated throughout these boards, the Bills not only lack a true #1, they lack a one-two punch at wide receiver. But they do have one of the best one-two punches at TE in the league. Not only fans, but Beane, and McDermott, themselves, have talked about the expectations of 12 personnel this season…. And you think they want to move on from that???

What do you expect them to say? “We blew it! Knox is way over paid”? 😂😂

It’s not really a check book though.  It’s a salary cap thing.  Trading him this year would be one of the dumbest moves in team history as we just rewrote his contract.  We would’ve had less dead cap if we just kept it as it was.  So trading him, we’d have to restructure someone else to free up 16M and kick another 16M down the road. Just doesn’t make sense.

It’s definitely a challenge and I’m guessing next year will be less of one, but as I mentioned earlier, if they’re gonna pay him big money then the OC better use him that way. It makes little to no sense as a safety valve or protection blanket.

According to his new contract, this is DEFINITELY not the case.  unless you’re talking about next season, which we’d have to pay 3M more than his cap hit if we moved him.  This year….we’d pay over 16M more than his current cap hit.  He’s a bill in 2024 💯

    Maybe. I’ve always figured that where there’s a checkbook, there’s a way.

With the addition of MVS, the roster is now at capacity for Training Camp. Any additions made from here will have a roster cut following it.

So you’re saying they’re gonna have to cut someone when I show up at Camp? Okay…. I’ll sit this one out….again.

When Beane selected Groot and Boogie back to back, he later told the media “we need to affect the quarterback.” Those two weren’t drafted to set the edge in the run game, they were drafted to disrupt the opponent’s passing offense. From that standpoint, Groot has been a miss up until this point, he doesn’t rush the QB very well or rack up sack numbers. He’s a good player, but not a difference maker and shouldn’t be signed to a contract that values him as such.

Off the top of my head, I know that Aaron Donald and Maxx Crosby played in over 80% of the snaps for their careers.

Well….he’s contributing better than Boogie. 😂

  8. This isn’t going to be a popular post but I think the Bills have been a bit all over the place with their offensive philosophy. For years they got beat down when Tom Brady had two TEs. Answer….go get two TEs. But now that philosophy seems to be a distraction in their offense and some challenges in pas protection have forced Knox to stay home and help. Add to that the revolving door at Offensive Coordinator and now we have a highly paid TE as the very title of this thread. I don’t have an answer but I’m guessing time and stability at OC will naturally sort it all out.

Ironic that we have a GM named B. Beane, because it looks like our GM, Brandon, appears to be taking a page out of the GM of the Oakland A's Billy "Moneyball" Beane from years past. Given the cap constraints that we find ourselves in this year, that makes sense.

Rather than looking at a conventional WR1, WR2, etc., Beane is looking at the totality of the receiving corps which coupled with an elite QB, he believes can maintain the overall production from the team last year that did ostensibly have a "WR1" in Diggs.

It is true that we are losing our top 2 receivers from last season in Diggs and Davis who accounted for 152 catches, 1929 yards and 15 TDs. But if we take a step back and look at the final 7 games of the season, when Brady was calling the offense (and the team went 6-1 with just the one heartbreaking loss to Philly), Diggs/Davis combined for just 46 catches, 571 yards and 3 TDs. Worse, Diggs was disparagingly unproductive with the receptions he did have, averaging less than 10 yards per catch, 315 yards on 34 receptions and just 1 TD. Shakir was more productive than either of them over that span, accounting for 363 yards (Davis had 256).

Meanwhile, after our top 3 in Diggs/Davis/Shakir, there was very little production from any other WR. Sherfield and Harty COMBINED for 26 receptions, 236 yards and 2 TDs. Getting more production from our new WR4 and WR5 could help to cushion the blow of losing Diggs and Davis. So would hopefully seeing an uptick in Shakir's production.

I am not suggesting that Shakir is capable of fully replacing Diggs just because he was more productive later in the season (and especially in the playoffs) than Diggs. But assuming Shakir is a more primary target in the 2024 offense, it stands to reason that he can increase his total 2024 output of 39 receptions for 611 yards and 2 TDs substantially. He wasn't far behind Davis last year in terms of catches (45-to-39) and yards (746-to-611), so I do not think it is unreasonable to project, say, 52 receptions for 800 yards for Shakir. Replacing Davis's TD output may not be as easy -- but I think 4-5 TDs for Shakir is a reasonable, conservative expectation.  I can also see similar numbers for Samuels (he had 62 receptions and 4 TDs last season with garbage at QB) and the rookie Coleman, who I can see being a TD-machine in this offense and matching (or even exceeding) Davis' TD output.

Getting back to the Bills' dismal WR4 and WR5 production in 2023, coming off an admittedly underwhelming season, MVS still out-produced Sherfield/Harty COMBINED with  315 yards. He's just a year removed from posting 687 yards and posted 690 back in 2020. That's to say that he alone could make up for some of the lost WR production -- and help to provide some added insurance in the event that Coleman has a rookie learning curve to overcome. Whomever from Hollins/Cephus/Claypool/Hamler/Shorter makes the team should also pick up some of that production as well.

Of course, none of this even accounts for the expected involvement (and improvement) from the TEs and RBs in the passing game. Or that Brady's offense may be less WR-centric and more run-oriented and make more use of 12-personnel and TE involvement.

Long story short, if we replace from 2023:

    Diggs     107 rec 1183 yards 8 TD

    Davis       45 rec  746 yards 7 TD

    Shakir      39 rec  611 yards 2 TD

    Harty        15 rec  150 yards 1 TD

    Sherfield  11 rec    86 yards 1 TD

    ------------------------------------
    Total      217 rec  2776 yards 19 TD

    With something like for 2024:

    Shakir     52 rec  800 yards  5 TD

    Samuel   65 rec  770 yards   4 TD

    Coleman 51 rec  750 yards   8  TD

    MVS       31 rec  480 yards    2 TD

    Hollins*  16 rec  200 yards   1 TD

    ------------------------------------

    Total      215 rec  3000 yards  20 TD

In this scenario (which I don't think is unreasonable), we still get better production from the top 5 WRs even if we don't have a single WR with 100+ receptions and 1000+ yards.

One of my all time favorite movie lines is when Brad Pitt explains to David Justice that the NY Yankees are paying him millions of dollars to play against them. 😂😂😂

Lee Smith is a blocking TE.

While Knox hasn't really broke out like I thought he would, he offers a lot more than that.  He is very athletic.  I think he and Kincaid will be a very nice tandem.

I hope you’re right. I’m really not anti-Knox. But in a salary cap driven league I find it hard to believe he’s not seen as a luxury the Bills can’t afford. And for Knox himself, I can’t imagine he’s not thinking he’d get more opportunities befitting his skillset elsewhere.

  11. 8 minutes ago, SWATeam said:

Not too hard to check the stats.  Last year was a down year playing through the wrist injury, but the prior two seasons Dawson had 15 regular season TDs.  And he has 6 postseason TD's in 10 games.

And his Team management thought so highly of him that they drafted his replacement with a First Round pick and just asked him to take a pay cut.

No way Knox is getting moved.  He just restructured his deal (lowered his pay/more cap friendly this yr), we'd also be in for a Sizeable dead cap hit.

Makes no sense to move him.

MVS is a legit #4 WR, which we needed.  Hollins is #5, unless Shavers/Shorter/Claypool prove they're at least as capable blocking and on S/Ts.  Everyone else is on a "very cheap" deal, and competing for #6 or P/S.

All of that might be true but it seems like he’s become a complete afterthought. And just because he’s restructured doesn’t mean that there aren’t other teams that’ll pay for his services.

Yeah it's ridiculous.  Unless it's a Bills game I am not going to watch football on Christmas Day, I probably won't watch the Friday night game in Brazil between the Packers and Eagles either.  I hope this plan to have NFL on every night and every holiday backfires on them and they don't get the ratings they are hoping for.  I have always been an "NFL Degenerate" that will give up my Sundays and Monday Nights during the season, my family and friends all know this.  But I will not give up every night of the week and holidays such as Christmas Day to watch the NFL.

My problem is that it really waters down the product. I’m a lifelong football fanatic but even I don’t want to watch it every day of the week. It’s way too much.

I wonder if the secrecy is also part of the sales technique.  Knowing PSLs are going to be a tough sell, perhaps Legends is thinking people will be surprised and blown away by the

revealing of the stadium details and will get excited to buy.

I have read mostly positive reviews of the stadium model and presentation. But I haven’t heard much at all that the presentation is convincing people to buy.

That may be part of it but it seems like there are a few people on here that have already been to their sales appointment and I’ve yet to hear anyone say “you guys just have to see all the new renderings”!

  15. 19 hours ago, billsfanmiamioh said:

I know nothing about this stuff but for someone who does, is it possible the lack of renderings could be due to the overruns and possibility that some of the finishes may not end up being what was originally envisioned?

The “secrecy” on the seating pricing must be some type of marketing strategy but we generally know what types of seating there will be. Seems like some of the interior aesthetics could be changed pretty significantly as the project unfolds and maybe that’s part of the reason they’re holding off? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good questions, and I wish had answers for you. At this point in the construction process there is VERY LITTLE that’s yet to be nailed down. The Floor Plans aren’t changing now. I can’t imagine Bills fans would be upset if the color of the restroom tile didn’t end up exactly like the renderings. (And the same is true with ALL preliminarily renderings no matter what the project is.)

I understand that this is designed to be mostly a text board but I don’t see and I don’t post photos very often. But this is like two pixels for a nose.)

Josh doesn’t have the appropriate footwear for a construction site. Hard to believe the site’s Safety Officer wasn’t all over him.
