He is a first round talent. Who have the Bills drafted in the first round since Josh Allen who is better than him? The only upper echelon receiver they’ve had in this era was obtained by trading a first round pick.
He is one more concussion away from retirement. He contemplated it last year. The Saints would immediately take that with zero counter. That is how bad that offer would be.

A first for Olave? And I thought Beane was bad.

If you didn't like Tre White last night (as you should if you watched). You aren't going to like Gabe lol.

But it made no sense. The only similarity between McDermott's defenses in Carolina and Frazier's defense is that they were both 4-3. McDermott had an attacking 4-3 in Carolina. He comes from the Jim Johnson/Eagles coaching tree, along with Spags. Frazier is a Tampa/Cover 2 zone guy who comes out of the Tony Dungy coaching tree. The "soft zone" that everyone here hates actually went out the door with Frazier. But that narrative was formed, and people think every defensive failure is due to it.
But we watch corners play off the ball 10 yards constantly. Just because he came from that, doesn't mean that's what he still uses. I also agree that its a weak narrative, but shoot we all watch the games and can see how they are trying to scheme/attack. If he doesn't have the personnel to run what he wants, maybe there is a greater issue?
If you need great personnel and very smart defensive players, how good is your defensive scheme? If you lose a key player in the playoffs and never force a punt, how good are you as a defensive coach? I am sick of McDermott getting a free pass, figure it TF out. Or fire another DC and think that'll fix it.

Ahhh yes, must be our DC. Or could it be, possibly, maybe, our defensive head coach who has the worst playoff defense in the HISTORY OF THE NFL?

The answer is always the Chiefs. We've shown we can beat the Ravens in the playoffs. Not the case with the Chiefs.
We have been outplayed twice in the last two games. Winning turnovers isn't something that can be consistently relied on. We witnessed this in multiple playoff games versus chiefs.

Ed and Benford are probably it on defense. But I can see a few of our Oline guys starting over there.

All of that work to pull the rug last second. Sounds like our government for the last 20 years.

I think this is more the million dollar question. I have posted on this previously, below is the allocation of draft capitol by position. It's only looking at how teams spent what they had, not how much they had. I'm summing the total point value of every pick and looking at a % of how those point values were spent at each position.
Buffalo ranks 7th in defensive spend since 2018. We have had top 10 defenses in years past. We even had top 3 defenses in years past. It just doesn't translate when it matters most. Which speaks to your call out of philosophical changes. It is entirely possible Beane and McDermott could be highly effective leaders and that is most likely the case, but is our approach married to the wrong concepts, specifically on defense? Then if so, how likely is that to fundamentally change? More clarity should come this season I would think and that is part of what makes this year very exciting.
How do I get Beane and McDermott to read this?!

I ask all of you to think "what would an upgrade at safety really accomplish in McDermott's D?" Wouldn't we all say prime Micah Hyde & Jordan Poyer were a big upgrade over what we have now? And what did that look like come playoff time?
Just remember, it's still McDermott's D. The point is that we could get 2 x studs back there, and the end result doesn't change the way he calls a game. I'm not saying it's ENTIRELY pointless, it's just the move least likely to help this team take a big step forward. I don't think having 2 great safeties back there will turn the tides against the Chiefs.
I'd rather double down on our biggest strength - Josh Allen. The side of the ball most likely to see changes year-to-year is offense, so give Joe Brady more tools to help Josh succeed. McDermott & Beane are good at finding defensive talent in the later rounds anyway.
this times a million

I just want to see if they actually draft strong, fast players. Because year after year, all I hear is "we need to get stronger and faster"

This is wild… Jimmy Garoppalo signed a one year contract for $4.5M with LAR in 2023.
He plays one game and re-signs for $11M in 2014. WTF
Because another team was paying him in 2023

I’m sure he feels like crap. Two seasons in a row, the offense has the ball in their hands at the end to tie or lead, and gets nothing.
Two end of game drives vs KC for all the marbles, Zero points. You aren’t going to the SB with that.
unless you have a defense like the ravens or chiefs

The elite guys are the only ones. The Bills don't have one of those.
But they have drafted multiple guys in the top 3 rounds. This is the point that you’re missing. Stop wasting high end draft capital for these rotational players

You realize that every team does this, right?
Except they don’t draft guys in the top rounds? Look at the elite 1st round guys. They are playing 75%+ of snaps

I am confident Beane will address the D Line once the 70m dead cap stranglehold is released after the season.
With a bunch of guys that will play 50 percent of snaps. It’s comical how much we spend on dline for these guys to play 1/2 a game

This is wayyyy …. overstated. I think there is room for a reasonable second contract. However, to your point his skill set is limited and he is not good at pass pro. I just don’t see him getting a huge contract given the short half life of RB’s in the NFL.
Some team will overpay to the point where the Bills will not match. The cap is going up and struggling teams typically overpay for skill position players. The Bills are smart and will continue to draft RBs (see Ray Davis). They will not sign a RB to a second year contract of any significant value with Josh Allen on the books.
