Where do you see this OL in a couple years?
BigDingus replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hope it ends up like the Chiefs' OL. Anchored by young players drafted by them, with strong veterans rounding it out. Dawkins, McGovern moving back to G, Van Pran-Granger, Torrence, and Brown/another draft prospect (maybe Travis Clayton pans out 🤞) could be a pretty strong unit. I'm definitely optimistic about where things are headed. -
Rd 5, Pick 141: C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
BigDingus replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
I may have my expectations too high, but if he doesn't win the starting C spot I'll be disappointed. He's my favorite pick in this draft, and it'd be awesome to see a talented young center takeover & anchor the line. The more I learn about him, the more hyped up I get! He's got the potential to be our best player in this class, and that's no disrespect to Coleman or the others. -
"In transition" implies that talent level has decreased, and they're retooling the roster to better compete in the future.

Separation has been his biggest red flag, but there are routes where he's been very successful. He's probably not going to be someone you have running go routes, but he's been touted as a "big slot" guy. Every year, it seems like someone is the new "slot guy" for us, whether it be Kincaid last year, or Shakir before that. The video I grabbed this graphic from reviewed the last 32 players that finished in the 35% or under percentile in terms of separation in college, and only 5 players were "hits" or close to it. Those players were: 1. Amon-Ra St. Brown 2. Cooper Kupp 3. Juju Smith-Schuster 4. Tyler Boyd 5. Rashee Rice He's in the 20th percentile for man coverage, 19th against press. However, he's at 80% against zone, so that's one major plus in bag already.

I'm sometimes guilty of looking at college numbers & letting that affect my perception. When you think of a WR1, especially in pass-happy college offenses, you don't think 50 receptions/650 yards. But college stats don't really mean much when it comes to NFL production. Anyone remember how negative many were on using a 3rd round pick on Dawson Knox? What was special about a guy whose best season was 300 rec yards, or having 0 TDs through his entire college career? Thankfully, Beane knew better than I did. He's not a superstar, but he's definitely been productive & a good TE when healthy. Anyway, I'm trying to keep that in mind with Coleman.

What's the point of this team's philosophy?
BigDingus replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because that dries up come winter & playoff time. The deep passing game isn't consistent in wind, cold, and the elements. Look at Mahomes, he also has a great arm, yet he averages the lowest air yards per TD pass. He can easily throw it all over the place, but they prioritize results over everything else. We've always been happy when Josh takes what the defensive gives him & stays patient, so now they're trying to help him be consistent.- 180 replies

Rd 6, Pick 219: CB Daequan Hardy, Penn State
BigDingus replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
I posted this in the live thread, but just to remind people: - Christian Benford in the 6th round (185th overall) - Dane Jackson in the 7th round (239th overall) Daequan Hardy could definitely see some playing time regardless of where he was drafted. My sources tell me he's already surpassed Kaiir Elam on the depth chart 😉 -

Just remember, the Bills drafted: - Christian Benford in the 6th round (185th overall) - Dane Jackson in the 7th round (239th overall) So there's definitely a shot Daequan Hardy becomes more than a ST/role player. -

Bills getting a lot of guys matching up pretty closely with ESPN's pre-draft overall rankings. 1. Keon Coleman: OVR Rank - #37 (taken #33) 2. Cole Bishop: OVR Rank - #54 (taken #60) 3. DeWayne Carter: OVR Rank - #94 (taken #95) 4. Ray Davis: OVR Rank - #129 (taken 128) 5. Sedrick VPG: OVR Rank - #105 (taken #141) - great value 6. Edefuan Ulofoshio: OVR Rank - #116 (taken #160) - great value 7. Javon Solomon: OVR Rank - #158 (taken #168) 8. Tylan Grable: OVR Rank - #180 (taken #204) 9. Daequan Hardy: OVR Rank - #249 (taken #219) 10. Travis Clayton: No Info -

Wonder if Beane could snag another 6th or 7th next year for Elam 🙃 -

I would think so, or at least I hope so. I'm definitely surprised they didn't double up & try to take another WR... then again, drafts rarely go the way we expect, so I'm not mad. -
Not sure how relevant the RAS has been when projecting how players perform once they hit the NFL, but it definitely tells you there's a lot of potential. Basically all you can ask for from a 6th round pick.

I'm more excited for this pick & Sedrick Van Pran-Granger than anything else. More OL is always a positive, and hopefully they will develop into quality contributors for us.

It's a little amusing to think we came into this draft hoping to use our extra late round picks + the 1st to move up a bit. Instead, we ended up leaving without a 1st rounder at all, and came out with 9 picks instead of the 10 we started with 😅 -

I'm just disappointed we didn't come away with 5 players from our 5 x 5th round picks! Really wanted them to go wild & load up. -

Because every draft we see how many times supposedly smart GMs & scouts pass up on great players or take awful ones. Fans can be guilty of honing in on a small group of players, while NFL teams often overthink & over-evaluate other players. I might be a brain dead idiot, but I can safely say I was all aboard the Mahomes bandwagon in 2017. Do I know more than GMs? Hell no. But apparently I'm smarter than the Bears FO who traded up to draft Mitch Trubisky & ignore Mahomes. -

Don't worry, we about to pop off with our 5 x 5th round picks! We're gonna come away with a brand new defensive unit by the end of this boys! -
ABC crew - "He's going to be a solid rotational guy for them." Hell yeah! I'm overflowing with excitement over the prospect! 😅
-
True, but that happens every year with plenty of players. How many times did all 32 GMs pass on Nacua last year? Maybe they're just as dumb as we fans are 😅
-
I like the pick, though I only read up on him & never saw him in college. There's not going to be any Elam-like excuses that he played the wrong scheme in college or can't figure out 2 high safety looks right? 😅
-
If Worthy ends up being great & Coleman does not, Bills ownership should implement a "Never Trade with KC" policy. Everyone saying last night that they trust Beane & our scouts to get their guy, more so than they trust the Chiefs' staff, we'll find out how smart our guys really are this year! Edit: For what it's worth, I like the guy. I don't think he's another Kelvin Benjamin. I think he'll be pretty good, but I'm not sure he'll be a legit WR1 or anything.

NFL gives players the option to wear guardian shells during games.
BigDingus replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hasn't it been pretty evident that the more "armor" they give these guys, the more reckless they play? I bet if they took helmets off of people entirely, there would be way less people willing to launch themselves head first into other players or lower their head/shoulder to truck a defender. -
I'm cool with that, but I'd rather they find a way to fix playoffs & get it back to top 2 seeds getting a bye in each conference. Don't care how they have to do it, cut teams, add teams, whatever, but it's annoying that only the 1 seed gets much benefit. Under the pre-2020 rules, the Bills would've had a 1st round bye twice already. Sorry, just whining about something that'll likely never change 😅
