9 wins will get Bills to playoffs if....
BigDingus replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given our history, I'd be SHOCKED if we win 9, let alone 10, including sweeping the Dolphins. The Dolphins have been just good enough to get by teams in weird ways, and we all know the Bills find plenty of weird ways to lose. The Chargers also aren't as bad as their record looks. Given the Bills have lost both games this season they were unanimously picked to win (Bengals & Jets, 2 teams with losing records), it's very likely they could lose against them as well. We tend to lose the "gimmie" games, the ones fans look ahead on the schedule at and circle a it as a win well in advance, and good teams easily win. The Colts might be so bad that even the Bills walk over them though. So I can see a win vs Colts, a split with the Dolphins, and 50/50 on the Chargers. But even if we beat the Chargers, that's only 3 wins, so 8-8. However, that at least shows some progress over last season, along with hope for the future when factoring in all our draft picks, a new number 1 WR for the future, an improved defense and solid special teams. If we can improve the O-line & D-line, add some depth in the secondary, and draft a true QB prospect, 2018 will look really good going into the season. -
Never thinking playoffs again...

I've been yelling this to anyone who would listen, this offense is so bad! I wouldn't be surprised if we only win a single game from this point on. Expecting the defense to get you 3 extra turnovers per game, many starting in opposing territory, isn't a way to win consistently. When the defense gets turnovers in our territory, the offense goes 3 & out. When they get them in opposing territory, we usually don't even get a single first down but are at least in FG range. On a rare occasion we score a TD, but again, it's rare. We were 2nd in the league in 3 & outs, and people have the nerve to say "that doesn't matter." Yes, yes it frickin does. When people say "passing yards don't matter! It's because Tyrod doesn't average many passes per game!" You know why he doesn't average many pass attempts per game? Because he doesn't get first downs, going 3 & out! If the offense converted more on 3rd down, he'd have more passing attempts by virtue of being on the damn field still! -

We live and die by turnovers. When we don't give the offense multiple extra chances to score, half the time beginning in opponent's territory, we can't win. Our offense needs far more opportunities to score than the average team. We go 3 & out way too often, and can't flip filed position unless the defense gifts us a new drive. -

Don't worry, according to this board 3 & outs don't matter. It's a pointless stat that doesn't reflect how good or bad an offense is, even though we're second in the league in 3 & outs. -

When the turnovers dry up, we suck. Everyone throws for 300 yards against us. We go backwards at least 1 out of every 2 plays. Our offense sucks a$$ -

I love how the only 2 games we were "expected" to win by the "experts" we end up choking. First the one win Bengals, now the bottom of the division Jets. It's also amusing how we reverted to the Rex Ryan discipline. Hooray for penalties! -

Remember all the people who claimed 3 & outs don't matter? It was obvious the second the turnovers dried up this team would show who they really are. Even when the defense GIFTS the offense tons of turnovers, we rarely score even a FG off them. But at least that takes the opposing offense off the field. Now when our offense is expected to carry the weight on their own, without being given multiple extra drives each game, they go 3 & out repeatedly. I wouldn't be surprised if we lead the league in negative plays. -

LOL I actually spit up some soda reading this... Yeah, 3-16 Tyrod when down by even a single point in the 4th quarter! Odds are in our favor -

Doing what we do best, 3 & outs, penalties, blown coverages, missed tackles... man, same ol' Bills. This will probably be the 4th game in a row with a 300+ yard passer. -

LOL. 5 sacks, almost double digit penalties, dropping interceptions, turning the ball over... yup, same ol' Bills. Now do we finish the season going 1-8 like the last time we started off 5-2? If we play like this, it's almost a certainty. -

Can we get more penalties please? I mean half a dozen already isn't quite doing it... we need to hit double digits soon if we're really going to keep pace with our tradition on Nationally televised games. -

Are the Bills trying to bring back the Rex Ryan glory-years of penalties? They're sure making an attempt to get as many dump calls as they can... -

Same ol' Bills screwing the pooch on National TV. Some things never change. -
Superstition wise: Let's not screw this up.

Well we're off to a fantastic start in keeping our streak of no TD's in the 1st quarter alive! Penalty on the kick return, followed by a 12 yard sack, followed by a penalty, followed by a run for no gain, then a punt! Yaaaay. This team has an issue with starting games even halfway decent. -

Great start. Penalty, sack, penalty, no gain, punt. Keeping our streak of no TD's in the 1st quarter this year alive! -
Eric Moulds would've been a sure-fire HOF'er if not for the teams he played on. He put up 10,000 yards receiving, tons of receptions & 50 TD's when he had to play with some of the crappiest QB's in the league. He played under what, a dozen starting QB's minimum, and however many offensive coordinators, yet still put up those numbers? McCoy has had a much better supporting cast but has never been DOMINANT except for a single year. He's not a HOF'er unless he puts up a few more GREAT seasons. His stats don't separate him from many others, nor does his body of work on the field outside of pure stats.

Bills improve to 5-2 w/ "boring" win (article)
BigDingus posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
https://sports.yahoo.com/bills-improve-5-2-another-200811041.html I don't mind the "boring" part of it, but the problem I still have with this team is their struggle to do much with the takeaways they're gifted. Eventually the turnovers will dry up, then what? We had 13 points off 4 turnovers today, with one being returned by the defense for a TD. So in other words, 6 points off 3 turnovers otherwise, which is up from last week when we had 3 turnovers for 3 points. Against the Bengals we forced 3 turnovers too, but which we had one nice drive for a TD, one 3 & out punt, and one FG. So 10 pts off turnovers, 6 pts otherwise. Each week it seems like our defense is basically WILLING us to victory, practically gifting the offense chance after chance to put the game away. If our offense was better, we'd be blowing teams out of the water with all the turnovers we get, but too often we don't do enough with them. Half the time we are lucky to get FG's only due to the starting field position we're given off the turnovers. Had the offense started in their own territory, they'd be forced to punt. I'm not trying to be a Debbie-Downer, but we know the turnovers will eventually dry up. We know we'll face better teams where we can't afford to punt or kick FG's off turnovers. We started 5-1 in 2008 & 5-2 in 2011, finishing the seasons 7-9 & 6-10 from there. I see similar things happening that happened in those seasons. Hell, last year we started 4-2, and we know what happened from there. Tyrod has looked more like Trent Edwards than ever this season, just with the added ability to scramble. But Captain Checkdown seems to have returned, only this time our WR's are less talented than before. If we can beat the Jets on national television this Thursday, that will relieve most of my fears. Though the Jets aren't some world-beater team, we have struggled mightily on nationally televised games in recent years, losing games we should've won. Just like the Bengals game showed signs of being a letdown game (after emotional wins against the Broncos & Falcons), the Jets TNF matchup seems that way too. The Jets are playing better than they should be, and giving opponents more fits than anyone expected was possible. We beat them already, but this time we're in NY, and their offense is playing much better. If we win, going 6-2, I'll be convinced this team is different. If we lose, I expect similar results to those previous years of quick starts. -
CBS Studio Analysts praise Bills, Fans, McDermott
BigDingus replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This coverage scares me though... it's deja vu from 2011... The media was ready to prop up the Bills as one of the best teams in the league, we were ranked in the top 3 in ESPN & NFL Power Rankings, Ryan Fitzpatrick was doing the media press tour appearing on talk shows every day, and we were on a roll going 5-2 up to that point. We had people claiming we had turned the corner, having beaten the Patriots at home already, and with Gailey being anointed as some genius coach. We smacked the Redskins around in Toronto, putting up a dominant defensive performance (with 9 or 10 sacks!) similar to what we did to the Raiders today. Then we won a whopping 1 game from that point on...We lost 7 straight games and finished the season 6-10. So even though there's a lot to be happy about, I know better than to be drawn in at this point. We also started 5-1 in 2008 and finished the year 7-9... Trent Edwards was getting tons of praise & also going on the media tour, while the national sports press hyped him up as the only successful QB of his draft class. They spoke too soon. -
No. Most HOF RB's have lead the league in rushing yards multiple times (McCoy did it once in 2013), or at least rushing TD's... He's only had double digit rushing TD's in a season twice, and he only averages 76 rushing yards a game for his career. Plus it's not like he's been a dominant force in the playoffs or been the key piece on a bunch of winning teams. He still has a few good years left if he stays healthy, so he definitely can add to his stats & make a case for it, but as of now I don't think he'll make it to the Hall of Fame. He's got the talent for sure, but not the numbers or the wins, kinda like Eric Moulds.

Gotta love the offensive pass interference call when the Raider's DB just fell that ruined our first quarter drive & a big play, as well as our defensive holding later in the game on 3rd down that just gave the Raiders a new set of downs. Or the holding on Incognito where he did nothing wrong at all. I mean there were more stupid calls too, but it was really the late flags when someone complained that pissed me off. If any Raider's player threw their hands up and spun around to yell at the refs, the ref would be like "Oh, he's mad! Must be a penalty!" and throw a late flag. They initially wouldn't, but after some over reactions from Raider's players they would THEN throw the flag. Easily influenced fools.

Brandon Beane already top 3 worst GM's in bills history
BigDingus replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
People forget we were 4-2 last year too... It's about this point in the season where we start to see the real team, and collapse down the stretch. Trading away Dareus does NOTHING to help us is the problem. We get a 6th rounder NEXT YEAR, who will likely never make much of an impact on this team in any way, while losing a Pro-Bowl talent that was just getting useful again. Sorry Whaley signed him to a bad contract, but that doesn't mean make it worse by losing any possible return on that investment. This is a friggin joke. -
Zay Jones. 5 of 23 is pitiful
BigDingus replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The worst part is he's one of the most targeted people by Tyrod, including TE's & RB's. He also has the lowest catch rate out of all of them too. -
The scarier thing than the Pats being in first is how much better everyone else is doing than they were supposed to. The Dolphins look pretty bad week after week yet still are winning. The Jets were supposed to tank & are winning & strongly competing in every game. The Bills offense is putrid but the defense keeps games close. This division is going to get pretty congested unless someone separates themselves, and usually that someone is the Patriots.

Year after year we always find people blaming the OC for all the problems with the QB's execution. Doesn't matter who's lined up behind center, when they don't produce there's a contingency of fans who point to playcalling instead of the QB. I mean it's so predictable at this point. Blame the line - check. Blame the OC - check. Blame the WR's - check. Blame the injuries - check. Just don't blame the QB, or else you're a "hater," and a pessimist/negative Nancy....
