Is McDermott/Bean just Jauron/Levy II?
Mat68 replied to BADOLBILZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With that said talent is needed. Every superbowl team has a few guys on the edge. But again a few. Realy only if they are elite does that work today. -

Buffalo hasnt had any leaders on the feild. The leaders they had never won nothing so their words would ring hollow on the younger players. I dont believe you can win in the NFL favoring character over talent 100% of the time. As a team Buffalo has some talent that is free spirited. Mccoy, and Darues both fit that decription. For a team trying to climb out of a 17 year hole i understand all the FA signings. Unharolded coming with alot to prove. Or vets with 1 or 2 years left who can lead their positional groups. In Mcdermotts first draft it makes sense that he drafted 3 years starts with leadership qualities because imo leadership is lacking and they would be the most likely to buy into what they are trying to accomplish. -
I think Buffalo going heavy into next years draft tells me they believe thier team is old at the top of the roster and not many if any young peices to build around. Sure Watkins could have been. But could have been has been the story of his career thus far. A large amount of highend youth is needed. Having 6 picks in the first 3 round helps solve that.

I believe they are. Mcdermott didnt pick up Watkins option and Beane traded him. Seems they have a similar view of the player. Darby is more surprising but i guess they didnt like the scheme fit. Even though those trades are seperate i dont think buffalo could spin that they didnt lose alot if Matthews and Gaines were not a part of it.

Having 3 guys who can line up anywhere doesnt seem like a problem.

Nate Peterman Love .. anyone vs. 2018 QB draft??
Mat68 replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nothing against him as player but if Peterman doesnt see significant time you would be foolish to pass on a more talented player. Look Cousins sat behind RG3 for a few year. Eventually he won the spot. No differant here. If peterman is that good he will make it on the feild and perform. -
Zay jones and Matthews. Still better than what was here last year.

Still playoff caliber team if 1 thing doesn't happen

Taylor improves as a qb. -
I feel the complete opposite. In a PR marketing perspective this trade looks terrible. The most popular player besides Mccoy and Taylor. Russ would not make this move.

Trading Watkins makes little sense to Wilbon and Kornheiser

About the best you could expect for a wr with a vast injury history on the last year of a contract. A high 2nd rd pick and a starting caliber cb. Matthews helps mitigate the loss in the short term. His game matches the scheme. -
Bills' 2017 Training Camp Discussion - Final Day

If he can lock down the number 2 job he will get the whole 4th preseason game. -
Nate Peterman Love .. anyone vs. 2018 QB draft??
Mat68 replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assuming he sees the feild for a significant time, he would have to perform like Brady, Wilson, and Prescott to avoid a first rd QB selection. -
Jordan Matthews chest injury (update: Sternum chip)
Mat68 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont think Watkins is on either of those guys levels. Buffalo didnt want to commit alot of money and the next 5 years to Watkins. If Watkins was more consistent and did have the injuries he isnt traded and buffalo picks up his option. -
Bills' 2017 Training Camp Discussion - Final Day
Mat68 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Training camp every year gets a chippy. A clear sign that McD has control of the team. He play sloppy be rides them and the rest of the practice is chippy. Now how do they react to it? -
8-14: Bills' GM Brandon Beane on WGR

Very simple 8/14/17 is anyone willing to pay watkins 60 plus million and make him the vocal point of our offense for the next 5 years? -
Peter King: Darby Hadn't Bought Into New Bills' Regime
Mat68 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A few things I take away from this trade. First and foremost this is the first move Buffalo has made in roughly a decade that doesnt reek of marketing or PR spin. To put it simply, this was not a Russ Brandon type move. Seems like the football minds are the ones with the final say for the first time in a long time. Second, there is a vision being shown here. They now have ammo to reshape a roster that on the top is old and the bottom not entrirely talented. You can not fix a gunshot wound with a bandaid. The last few years Whaley was kicking the dead money down to road for win now moves that never showed on the win column. Lastly, is Buffalo more talented today as they were Thursday? No they are not. However, is Buffalo a much worst football team today then they were Thursday? No they are not. I think both Matthews and Gaines will become starters before opening day. They are not as gifted players but i think they will be productive to a point that the team will not be negetively effected by their presence. Buffalo's playoff chance seem about the same to me. Still need a load of things to fall their way to get in. Going forward they have the ability to move up for a qb or add a significant amount of talent and youth to the roster. Were the moves shocking? Yes. Where the moves pure tank? No. -
Bills trade Sammy Watkins to Rams for CB Gaines, 2nd rd pick
Mat68 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never said he was a burner. The wr corp as a group is better than last years. Streater and holmes are solid 4 or 5th wrs. -

The WR corp right now is better than any point last season. -

Jones and Matthews have plenty speed. The difference is you will not see as many go routes this year. West coast offenses is more horizontal in attack than vertical. Sure niether are as dynamic as Watkins but either can beat single coverage. -
RODAK: Watkins Trade Sets Up TT To Fail
Mat68 replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This simply is an unsuccessful team trades away one of the few players the national media knows so it is a bad move. The Pats did the same thing to the best 2 players on there defense last year simply for picks not players. Ej Gaines is very similar to Darby. Both had good rookie years then fell off. Most unbias opinions think Gaines will be a better fit in our scheme more so than Darby. Matthews has been productive every year. I like his size. Imo the players brought in are probably 85% the caliber of the caliber being sent out. Overall i dont think it effect the team in the standings. Throw in the 2nd and 3rd and its a win in my book. -

The combination of Matthews, Jones, and Boldin is better than any combo Buffalo had on the field last year. Very simple with our run game find the single coverage and get them the ball.
