I fully expect Darnold to return to school.  If we are able to trade our pick, KC's pick and a future pick for Rosen I do it without thinking about it.  Not willing to trade picks for any of the other QBs.  Fully plan on downing a bottle of bleach if they draft Mayfield.

History is against doing it.  It nevet works out better for the player.  The player always regresses or gets hurt.  USC is not going to prepare him for the NFL more than being in the NFL.  USC is going to use him to win college football games like they should.  Use some gumption resfuse to sign with cleveland if they scare you away and force a trade. In life you have a finite chances and oppurtities.  Play well vs OSU and jump right back in going in the top ten.  If some think Allen is a first rder i would run to the NFL.

  2. I dont see buffalo having 2 top 20 picks to go along with 2 second rd picks again anytime soon.  They have plenty of ammo to move up.  They most likely could move up by trading both ones this year and a conditional pick next year.  Still leaves 2 seconds and a third to fill holes on the roster.  going after Cousins is an option but im not sure he can lead us past the Patriots or to a superbowl.  If you have are going to pay him 30 mil a year that is the expectations.  That move though would leave the picks intacted to reshape the roster around him.  I dont care which way they go but they need to go into training camp with a bonafide NFL quarterback with franchise potential.

    Your point is well taken.

As I said, Marrone probably was "right" about most of the things with which he and Whaley disagreed (EJ, decision to trade up for Watkins, etc.) Still, Marrone's inability to play well with others proved to be counter-productive. The reported "St. Doug" references also betrayed a notion that Marrone felt that he was the ONLY reason that the team had any success -- not the players, scouts, GM, etc.

Whaley was far from perfect, but not everything he did was bad. Still, the poor relationship between GM and head coach was a two-way street -- and there is enough blame for both Marrone and Whaley for not working better together.

Also, the Mularkey situation was very different. Ralph and Marv clearly wanted to bring in another guy and instead of firing Mularkey (and paying for his remaining years on the contract), they imposed enough mandates/restrictions on him to provoke him to resign.

Most of the good coaches are the same way.  Bill Billiecheck or Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Jim Harbuagh are just to name a few.  That is the stereo typical profile of a Ceo or leader in any profession.  History has turned out in Marrone's favor.   Russel Brand not being a football guy.  Whaley having too much authority.  Then the personal decisions Ej down to trading up for Watkins.  Pegula was too new to make an informed decision on the front office or head coach.  Imo he was forced to choose and without the proper information he made the wrong one probably because Whaley and Brand were likable and Marrone was not.  That is why he looking for a football Czar.  He is not a football fan or lifer, he didnt understand the culture and have the ability to determine what good talent in the industry looks acts and feels like.

Pegs did offer him a 5 yr extension and was advised by Marrone he would get back to him . Pegs thought it was a done deal. Next day he resigned. Pegs was blindsided.

Marrone never requested changes to make his stay in Buffalo palatable for him.

Marrone was never happy in Buffalo. He needed to go.

It was my understanding he was requesting more power and changes to the organization hierarchy. I think Schefter or another insider reported that about the departure.  Pegulas offered him more money instead.

Bradford is done. On Ir. Can’t stay healthy.  Gil Brandt on Sirius said his body is shot. At best he might be a backup q.v. but won’t start or possibly even play again.  I trust Brandt.   Pretty good history of knowledge to back him up.

I am am wondering about our talent evaluators.  Besides Dareus et al , why do so many bills ex players or cast offs do well with other staffs?  Ragland playing well.  ( imho more upside than Preston) , lee taken off our practice squad looks like a rusher we desperately need. Even kailin clay playing better for panthers. Throw in hogan,Woods, gillslee,Gilmore , even nickel Robyn for rams all doing ok or much better than with bills who brought in only throw away player with maybe exception of Benjamin if he gets healthy. Then we use Tolbert in role he is not meant for. DiMarco has done?  Humber still in more than Milano. Tate still allowed to eturn almost every ko where we end up starting behind the twenty every time and stats show it’s harder to score from 20 yd line or worse.   Marcel is loving it down here in Jax now who have a tremendous defense. Geez, this type of constant poor talent evaluation is really embarrassing. Yes they hit on white , possibly zay.  But how does a guy like lee in a need position exposed on the practice squad?   Mcbean not appearing all that. Great so far.  If he doesn’t go for a legit qb in this draft armed with the picks he has, then I think he wiil continue the futility. This is a qb driven league.  Let’s hope he makes a bstter call than he has with his failed roster moves this year.

The majortity of the moves helped climb Buffalo out of the cap hole they were in and arms them with a wide range of picks.  Simply about qbs, they need to find one with potential to be a franchise qb.  I consider peterman a developmenatal backup.  I would bring in a vet to battle with the rookie top pick.

Taylor is among the leadership group on the team and the defense was even more of a horror show against NO with leaders like Kyle Williams and Lorenzo Alexander showing even worse than the QB.

The offense equivalent for only stopping them once and that is turnover in the redzone to me would be picking up 1 first down and scoring 3 points.  Just so happens Taylor got both of those things on the first drive of the game.  We are splitting hairs.  The team played poor.  The offense played just as poor as the defense.

That has nothing to do with little interest or effort.  No one who knows anyhthing would say that about Taylor.  Bad reads or not taking enough chances I can buy, but not what you asserted.

It was a terrible performance and I 100% question the effort of all 53 guys.  Taylor is the unquestioned leader and as leader he is in part responsible for his own effort and the teams overall.  Both were questionable at best and the result was dreadful.  His benching after that game to me is justified.  You can agree or disagree thats fine.  The thread wanted to hear from someone who thought Peterman should start.  I am saying I was ok with anyone starting in LA that wasn't Tyrod.  Peterman was just the next guy up.  I own a Taylor jersey, I think he still has the ablity to lead the team but that game wont get it done and wont keep you on the team.

    This is complete nonsense.

You watch the game?  What do you call checking it down on 3 straight 3rd and longs when your down by 14 than 21 than 28?  3 straight 3 and outs.  Either he was confused by a basic coverage, which was used three staight possessions, or you know the game is lost and dont was to throw an INT because you dont want to effect your stat line IE give up.

It was a total blunder.  Period, No excsusing or spinning into some positive.

Yes Peterman crapping himself in La was bad and a bad look for the franchise but that team was heading in the same direction the team has went the last 10 years.  Taylor showed so little interest and effort vs the Saints I would not have been surprised if they stuck with Peterman even after his 5 int performance.   That was why Taylor was benched. sure the team is gonna sputter but as the Qb you do anything to try and right the ship, ig you dont it apears that you quit.  That is what it looked like to me.  Game was getting out of hand but he wasnt going to hurt his TD to INT ratio to try and make that game respectable.  Hell I respect Peterman still chucking the ball after 2 than 3 than 4 and than the 5th.  They took him out because he could have ended up with an amount no QB could have beaten, because he was going to keep throwing.  That is the complete opposite of the performance Taylor had vs No.  Sure its embarrassing but atleast I can respect this effort.

I know but I think there are several teams who bottomed out and got a non-QB talent infusion and that worked out as well.

I still contend it worked for the Colts.

It would've worked for a team like the moronic Browns if they actually drafted Wentz.

If you're going to talk about trading up for a QB versus tanking to get one, you have to include RG3 and his ilk in the discussion.

They got extremely lucky for Manning to have a severe neck injury the same time Luck and RG3 came out.  That franchise has not been run smart so I cannot think of a scenerio where they plan that tank.  They expected Manning back and were left with their pants down when he couldn't make it back on the field.  Much of the same way they were with Luck this year safe  for the trade for Brissett.  If they are that smart why not do the same thing this year.  Get a top 2 pick trade it to the highest bidder or Luck to the highest bidder.

  11. 2 minutes ago, Sammy Watkins' Rib said:

Look at how the Eagles and Rams have turned it around this year. Neither one required a recent tank. They both traded up to go and get their franchise QB. Then they made some key free agent and coaching acquisitions.

You don't have to tank to get better.

This.  Buffalo is never going to have a better opportunity to move up and get franchise caliber/ potential Qb than this year.  Even with Darnold staying at school their are 3-4 1st rd caliber qbs.  2 or 3 could even be top 10 top 5 caliber prospects.  With the way Watson performed that would seem to help Lamar Jackson's NFL Potential.  Find a team with a qb in the top 5 work out a package to move up and get your guy.  Buffalo has such a surplus of picks they have the ability to move to any position on the draft board and still have picks left over to improve the roster for the current year.

  12. Regardless of the results and outcome, Taylor's performance against the Saints was worthy of him being benched.  Regardless of what was said that move had everything to do with Taylor's performance not Peterman's growth.  Going back to Taylor was do able with the way the move was handled.  Sure Mcdermott has pie on his face but if the team plays with more urgency after the move then I would still consider it a success.  The team was falling back to the same season routine that has plagued the franchise for 17 years.  I am glad a coach decided to do something to change the course.

Yes he was and those teams were defense driven.  He had a great eye for talent and turned around every team he coached.  The Patriots, Jets and Cowboys had hall of fame caliber player after he left.

A Patriot fan was claiming Billicheck was behind Parcells rings.  But the nucleus of the early Patriots defense was drafted by Parcells, and Bill Parcells turned around the Jets, Patriots, and Cowboys.  Hell last year Romo and Witten will still leading the team both guys Parcells brought in.  I am not a Patriot fan.  I respect Billicheck as a defensive mind and dynasty he has made but I also believe there is no Dynasty without Brady.

    umm

seriously?   The Browns were not "turning it around", the NYETS?   hardly any impact to that team.  insignificant at best and the NE Cheatriots.

If not for 9-11 and all the Patriotic brew ha ha's    what might have happened.    Why would a Ref throw a Flag against any American Patriot.

Im talking about Parcell's not Billicheck.  Go back to the beginning of the thread.  Billicheck is a great defensive mind but fell into Brady.
