  1. He was using himself as an example but Rosen was talking to the larger picture of college athletes. At major programs he feels that the players are steered to take easier course loads to ensure eligibility over taking classes that challenge them mentally. He than again used an issue he faced that with his athletic obligations there were programs and majors he was not eligible for. With that kind of institutional control its naive to then hide behind its all about receiving a higher learning when the majority of the time it is not. There are outliers in every school. That players had a goal going in and wanted to obtain a higher learning. The point is not to look at the high achievers, its to look at the median . The majority of the players are not pushed to achieve more, they are pushed to stay eligible.
  2. Why? College success does not correlate to NFL success. Who improves the most over the next 5 years? Who is best equipped to handle adversity and who ends up in a good situation. For all the emphasis on the Qb position in the NFL and it is important., a Qb is just 1 out of 11 on offense and 1 out of 46 of players on the roster game day. Qb's going to poorly run teams will fare poorly for the most part. Not attacking the position aggressively as you attack other positions is more risky than worrying about a pick failing.
  3. I read the moves starting in TC through the season and this off-season all points to Buffalo selecting a Qb in rd 1. They are going to hitch their wagons to a prospect they feel is going to be the cornerstone of the franchise. Do they move to 2 or 4 for that player? More and more I expect Buffalo to go to 2 jump the Jets and get their guy. They just want to ensure their guy is available at 2.
  4. Rudolph has very good deep accuracy. The arm strength concern with Rudulph is not a matter of how far he can throw it, but how much velocity he can put on a ball. Rudulph's largest issue is the lack of outside breaking route accuracy. There are not many throws he makes outside the numbers inside 20 yards. Those are the bread and butter throws in the NFL.
  5. Lamar Jackson is drafted before Mayfield. Buffalo drafts a running back with their second pick.
  6. Imo Buffalo will look to move half of the their top 6 picks and both 1's for a QB. For their #1 Qb they will add a pick in 2019 probably there 1st rd pick. The glaring holes on the team are QB, LB and deep threat Wr. Making a trade that is 12-22-53-65 2019 1st and swaping of mid rders still leaves Buffalo with top 5, 53 and a third. Buffalo selects Qb LB and Wr and Buffalo has filled their holes while having mid rd picks to add depth. This is the best outcome. They would get a QB they believe is a Franchise Qb the first one since Jim Kelly when the USFL crumbled.
  7. Picking Allen in the top 10 comes down to arrogance. Coaches and GM's in the NFL reek of it. Every one here without much argument can agree he is the most naturally gifted Qb in the draft in term of arm and his size and speed. If you take the top 20 throws from every top qb prospect which one of the prospects would show off the most pro level throws out of that 20? That would be Allen as well. So he is the more naturally gifted guy, you have tape of him doing exactly what you need him to do in the NFL. It comes down to coaching and the offensive staff to make sure his does those 20 throws every time. If you cant do that what are your doing? That is where the arrogance comes in. To a man I do not believe an offensive mind or coach would shy away of wanting Allen as his QB. Your job is to coach offensive football. the guy who can make every throw and also buy time if the play breaks down, and can throw it over the saftey is all things that would make a team take a very hard look at Allen. He is not the safest Qb but I think Gms will bet on talent more than anything else.
  8. This draft has 5 legitimate first rd qbs. Every year they inflate some QBs to create more ratings and interest because they need to manufacturer stories for their broadcasts. That makes it difficult to find what former classes were graded and how the current class rates. NFL executives are comparing this draft to previous and future ones. Allen is getting drafted in the top 5 because he has an arm like Rodgers and Stafford with the size of Big ben and Cam.
  9. With more college prospects entering the draft earlier to get to their second contracts earlier it is difficult to use any of the old qualifiers. Parcel's 10 keys, Qbase and this correlates to more playing time and 3 or 4 year starters. This class has more quality QB prospects than most drafts. Drafts are graded in there year and previous ones are always looked upon more fondly in terms of players rating and perception is normally 20/20. This year is also a fantastic and interesting contrast in scouting. Traditional vs analytics. The traditional guy Allen and the analytics guy being Mayfield. The success of either doesn't discredit the other method but it will be an interesting draft and season.
  10. I would rather watch a legit Qb prospect playing Qb in Buffalo for first time in 3 decades than a good Mike or Will and a DT. Why do you need those extra picks when adequate vetran players can fill needs like your point on Wrs? By moving up they will have a full compliment of picks by also grabbing a qb in a position they would not have been able to otherwise. Seems like a win, win.
  11. I think Rosen is the best to start off the bat. By bringing in Mccarron for backup money I would like to believe they are confident they get a Qb thats competing to start week 1. If that is Rosen, that remains to be seen.
  12. True that is the time of year. Idk who they want. You do not have to be Mike Mayock to determine with Aj Mcarron and Nate Peteman on the roster Buffalo is drafting a Qb. Imo thats been made loud and clear by their actions. Reguardless who they want and where, it seems unlikley a Qb will fall to 12 because everyone assumes they want a qb. So if you pick after 12 you know you need to move past them to get them.
  13. Linebaker and Wr 2nd and 3rd. Depth the rest of the way. Imo Qb and Linebaker are the must finds in this draft class. For a shot at one of the best Qb prospects I would be ok taking a lesser prospect at linebaker. After that trade Buffalo stil has a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. You get a franchise qb, a linebaker and a wr to take the top off coverage and its a win.
  14. If they want Jackson that is what will need to be done. Arizona, or any other team that likes him would presume we are taking at QB at 12 so they would be looking to jump us.
  15. Advance analytics favor the 3 to 4 year starter. That is why Mayfield is so high. He has 3 and a half years of games. Rosen, Darnold, Allen, and Jackson are going to be the new normal. With longer college seasons and systems designed for college success there is no reason to stay longer in college than the minimum.
  16. This is a tweet of 2 mock drafts, involving two completely unconnected individuals, speculating what a franchise might do in the future draft. Award winning journalism here.
  17. Right but the guy is ignoring positional importance. 4 Rbs, a guard as his top player and splitting hairs on Darnold not including him in the first rd is idiotic and just click bait. If Darnold becomes an average starting Qb he is more important to a teams success than the gaurd even if he is a perennial all pro for 10 years.
  18. 12, 22, 53, 65 and 2019 1st and swap of mid rd picks get it done for NYG. If the Giants want to trade out they will do it for 3 1st a 2nd and 3rd. That is the most they will receive. That is not a Ditka for Ricky Williams move. Buffalo would have 2, 56, 96 so a Qb than a second and third. The only variable is NYG willingness to trade. By moving JPP they seem to be rebuilding so a move down for would seem realistic. To me the only reason they have been collecting these picks was to use them to select a Qb that would have been otherwise out of reach. If Buffalo does not land 1 of the top 5 Qbs many including me would rate the draft a disappointment and would officially start the clock on Beane and Mcdermotts careers in Buffalo.
  19. Alabama in 2011, 2012 and 2013 had more talent on the field than their opponent every game he quarterbacked. That is why he was a mid rd qb. He doesn't do anything great. Probably, a career backup at most a game manager.
  20. This is the worst part of "Scout speak". Round grades mean nothing. There is not value at picking a QB 3 or 56. If they become a franchise caliber starter in the NFL they are worth the 1st pick. Value means nothing if you like the player and they produce and are effective in the NFL they are worth the pick or possibly higher. Matt Malano would have been perceived as a reach if he was drafted in the 3rd though his play this past year would have justified it.
  21. Size and arm. Cam was not a slam dunk prospect. Hindsight 20/20 now. Many questiined his ability to win in the pocket in the NFL.
  22. No duh the Patriots are drafting a QB. That was the instructions from Kraft to Bill after trading Garapolo. This was leaked in November.
  23. Draft picks overrated. The best players on the team Geoff, Gurley, Donald all top 10 picks of the franchise. Sure FA can help and trade as well but the foundation of the LA Rams has been drafted by them.
  24. You are right. I think the thing with Allen that makes teams optimistic is that he is not some well oiled Qb. He is not an elite 11 Qb prospect that has gone to every QB camp since he was 12. Allen appears to be a natural talent. Working with Palmer he is learning and being taught how to make different throws, and why your feet is tied to accuracy. This in the end is all about ego and potential. The ego is that of the coaches. The potential is simply, watch Allen's best 50 throws. Those are by far the best in the class. A coach will have his staff get Allen to do that all the time. None of the Qbs are slam dunks most evaluators are going to give the coaches the guy with the most ability, it the coaches job to get that out of him.
