Expectations. Rex came in with the mindset I'm making the difference. The defense was top 10, he was making it the best. McDermott saw what was broken. He wanted to do a total rebuild, but trying not to sacrifice too much in the short term. Imo after making the playoffs they got the clout and the ability to full fledge rebuild. The defense is close and the offense is a mess. Looking at salaries and resources it is not a surprise. Pegula is not caught off guard by anything this year except for his infatuation with Peterman.

Imo no inside information is needed to see what is happening. The Bill's were in a significant cap problem when McDermott took over. Yes they were more talented but they were also lacking elite players. Watkins and Dareus were the best players on the team, but were not elite but only for glimpses and were not leaders. The defense is heading in the right direction and are a few tweaks from becoming a very good modern defense. The offense has taken the blunt of the damage. Mathews and Benjamin both flopped but were young with past production. I'm curious to see how Buffalo handle this offseason. The caliber of weapons will come down to the level of play Allen shows the remaining part of the year.

A guy who 6 months ago believes Peterman can start and do well should be questioned. I will never know why McDermott treated Allen opposite of how he treated Edmunds. Beane makes moves based off how McDermott sets the depth chart. I blame McDermott for 90% of the QB carousel. His judgment of the most important position in football is a real black eye. I'm curious how many blow outs can the Pegulas stomach before they are wanting answers.

Terrelle Pryor newest Buffalo Bill (ESPN)

Plot twist. With Allen and Anderson out he is an upgrade at Qb too. -
Nathan Peterman expected to start Sunday (per Adam Schefter)

Lol Pryor plays Qb after halftime -
I'm optimistic that they retain the defense and are able to add talent to the offense to make Buffalo a pleasant watch. Right now as a fan they play ugly nasty football. Not in a poetic slam the ball down the other teams throats sort of way either. It's hard to watch. Allen to me is entertaining at worst, makes some plays at best. Him sidelined the last 8 games would be dissapointing.

Terrelle Pryor in Buffalo! Update: He's signing!

He will be the fastest Wr on the roster. This point of the season pretty much best you will find. -
Worst case scenario tomorrow night

What's worse a blow out or a very Buffalo type late meltdown. The defense would have to play extremely well to keep the game competitive. I dont see the Anderson led offense scoring more than 20. -
Complimentary Football vs. Derogatory Football
Mat68 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I hear "complimentary football", I hear we are going to play ultra conservative offensive football. Its actually the worst and most outdated philosophy. The offensive play calling is limited, turns into run, run, pass punt that has been dead since the 80s. -
Media trying to get McDermott fired.

1 or 2 games will not put his job in question. The amount of time and resources spent to bring in a quality Qb prospect and completely blundering the whole thing may. Spending the offseason on developing Peterman and that lasting 2 quarters is a reason why. In a Qb and offensive driven league showing no eye for talent or ability to hire a creative mind is a reason why he would be on the hot seat. -
Allen has been the only guy so far that keeps the defense competing. Good bad or Ugly Allen will make some plays. Whether its running or passing he pretty much willed the offense along. The Offense is a dumpster fire. I know many think he is untouchable but McDermott has to find a way to keep the team competitive. If they get blown out week in week out and get embarrassed vs NE in primetime he might not see next year.

Going Through WORST Possible Scenario With Allen
Mat68 replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True but watching a play develop and thinking I would do this or that. Kind of resets the year for him. -
How many yards will Anderson have Sunday
Mat68 replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Real question over/under 250 and 2 TDs and many will want to stick with Anderson the rest of the year. Imo Anderson could have a game like Fitz did week 1 or 2 and and when Allen is healthy he plays. -
Going Through WORST Possible Scenario With Allen
Mat68 replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree. He got some much needed game experiance. You can see the physical ability. Also you can see the areas he needs to work on. At this point of the year Allen would just be playing and trying to make things happen for an offense that lacks play makers. The injury in my estimation is a blessing. He can watch and see what decisions Anderson makes and why. Pick up somethings and know how to better attack when he is back in there. -
The time Allen left the game he had more passing yards then Watson. I like Allen's competitiveness. Hes got the team competing and being competitive with the worst offensive talent in football.

Buffalo invested alot in Allen. What has McDermott done to help him? It's crazy how he treated Edumonds and Allen completely opposite. Same draft, both traded up for. Both raw and freakishly athletic. The LB he plugs in immediately and groomed him to run his defense. The qb he put at 3rd string and never named him the starting Qb until his guy failed. No experienced Qb coach, no experience on the roster to help him. I firmly believe Pegula is watching Mahomes, Goff, and Trubisky, thinking if McDermott will ever facilitate that for Allen. McDermott's actions to me looks like a coach who was given a Qb he didn't really want.
-
He is alot of ways similar to Allen. Allen is bigger, more athletic and has a stronger arm. It's nearly impossible to accurately evaluate Allen. Those that are doing so are not taking into account scheme, and his supporting cast. The second is apparent the first one is lost on many. Mcvay, Shannahan, Reid, and Mcdainiel design plays that beat defenses and coverages routinely. The Qb in most cases is throwing to the primary wr. Allen is not getting much of that. The plays he is making are on him. The mistakes have come down after GB. That was the ying to the Minnestota yang. I curious to see how he would handle that close game on the road down the stretch. Those 2 passes to Benjamin were perfectly placed. Hopefully, it's not serious. It's not been pretty, but nothing about the Bill's offensive roster is. Hes kinda just been winging it and still was able to beat 2 playoff teams.

Not bringing in Anderson after TC. Blinding believing Nathan Peterman corrected his arm strength and awarding him the starting position. Allen should have been named the starter after the Cleveland. Injury settlement release Mccarron. Bring in Anderson. Give Peterman the 4th preseason game and cut him. They like him so bring him back on PS. The amount of time wasted on developing Peterman this year and not the first rd pick is and was completely foolish.

He threw 2 40 yard dimes before the late hits. Here is the truth. Allen is not holding the offense back. He is the only thing holding it together. They have no one outside that creates separation. The game was setting up for the formaula for how Buffalo wins. Play good d. Run the ball and Allen makes a handful of plays. Buffalo has the slowest receiving corp and weapons in the NFL. What do you expect from a rookie? Hopefully, he isnt seriously hurt. Being on the feild is the best thing for him and the franchise.
