Bengals hire Zac Taylor as HC (Update - can’t find a DC)
Mat68 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe hiring a young guy for HC without any strong NFL connections might be a poor choice?? Lewis was a lid on a dumpster fire that has been Cincinnati. -
He was paid as a top 10 te but at this point is a 2te in an Hback role. Makes sense. There are a fair amount of draftable te this year. I would like buffalo to bring in a vet and use a day 2 pick on one. I wouldn't be against picking one early if Buffalo is able to pick up an extra 2nd.

Good or bad rookie is not going determine how the individual players career will be. What gives me optimism is he was the best player on offense by any level of measure when he returned from his injury. In a few games I will go as far as to say he was the best player on the field. He is not where he needs to be but I see a possible incredible future. How is he protected and developed going forward will be the question.

Bills sign C Spencer Long to 3 year deal
Mat68 replied to One Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Comes down to how Bodine recovers from his injury. I felt like he was serviceable and noticeably better than Groy. I could also see Buffalo drafting a center with a trade down or on day 3. Long at worst is an upgrade at RG. That's about as much as one could ask for 2 weeks before the combine. I think Buffalo still needs another interior lineman and a OT. Long imo allows them to target a guy at Center or Guard instead of needing both or one instead of the other. Basically, figure out who the best fit and player is and go after them regardless of position. -
Humphries is intriguing. With the wrs they brought in via late in the draft Proehl and Mccloud, and the utilization of McKenzie down the stretch slot is definitely a position of importance in the teams passing attack. Having a legit sure handed slot reciever would be a need Imo. I think Humpries, Beasley and Tate would be worth bringing vs any of the top available outside wrs. You could potentially get one of the aforementioned and a TE for the money Williams may cover. Where Buffalo is sitting I would go slot and TE in FA and draft a few outside guys and a rb come April.

Bills sign C Spencer Long to 3 year deal

Basically, Buffalo is hoping for the guy from Washington not the guy who played in NY. Seems like there were mitigating circumstances to explain some of his poor play. I wouldn't pencil him in as a starter but has the ability to play g or center. Gives them some flexibility in FA and the draft. -
Would you trade a high 2020 draft choice for AB?
Mat68 replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. His value is not that high. Out right 2019 2nd or swap of firsts and that will do it. -
I think Mixon and Hill have shown that if it happwns early in College or before it largely falls onto deaf ears on the national stage. Sure it will make a local headline the day of the draft but after will be forgotten. Not condoning the behavior but also wont hold anything against man for what he did as a teenager.

That would be a very good draft. I think they go heavy in offense in the draft to establish a core. I think their is a core in place on defense. I wouldn t be surprised if the biggest name brought in during FA is on defense. That seems to be where the biggest bang for your buck lies.

I dont see Rudolph being cut. Just because they save money doesn't mean they will. As a run first mindset Zimmer would be against it. Rudolph is an above average blocker and a top 5 receiving TE. As a Bill's fan, I'm all for it. I think teams understand that casual football fans like offense and fantasy football. Getting quality premier players in their prime on offense will be extremely rare.

It is interesting that the article is being written like the Steelers hold all the card in the negotiations. Brown is a malcontent for them. It's a situation where its Brown or Tomlin. Honestly, with Browns salary, age and perception around the league a high second takes him down. In a pretty deep wr class many rebuilding teams wont want the attention and the demand Brown will put on the Qb, offense, and coaching staff. If I was Beane, I would offer a trade up scenerio. Swap first rd picks for Brown. A 2020 day 3 or day 2 pick based off of 2019 production for Brown.

As a number 2 he would be very effective. He is more a h-back than a guy you flex out. He is a reliable blocker. He is the opposite of Kelce. Clay doesn't threaten the defense vertically and doesnt make the above the rim type plays. The issue here is that he is paid as a top 10 to 15 te and he is not that guy. What Clay is owed, it's a real stretch envisioning a scenerio where he is retained on his current contract.

Matt Miller 7-round Mock Draft: Bills take OT Jonah Williams
Mat68 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Wr will be the pick. The top guys are going to go higher than some of the pundits expect. -
From a schematic standpoint on defense? Yes. He is a football genius. Parcells imo showed how to turn that into action. From an ability to build a Championship caliber football team? No. Parcells had an exceptional eye for talent. Especially, 3-4 front 7.

I agree. There are 3 to 4 good options that will be available on day 2. Having a big target over the middle and down the seem will be a good pairing with Allen's strengths.
-
I'm not advocating trading for a #1. Though I wouldn't hate it. Williams is a nice Wr. He is a solid possession wr. Is he worth 4 year 40? No he is not. That is low end #1 money. I think he is worth half that. Buffalo has 8 picks. 2 in the first 41. The Wr crop is actually very good. Buffalo can draft a guy at 41 who will give you everything Williams brings and more. Hakeem Butler, Jj Arrcen-Whiteside are 2 that come to mind. In FA I would look for Olineman and a Te. Then low end Wrs and Rbs. Imo the draft is deep with both no need to over pay in FA for either this offseason. I see the need for the offense for sure just think it's a better allocation of resources.
-
Clowney and Lawerance are the top ofcourse. I also really like Frank Clark. Depending on what position you think he is best at Barr is intriguing as well. Buffalo has a pile of cash. Imo they would be better off paying a premium for a premier position. Depending who is available on the Oline, that needs to be a priority obviously as well. The Wrs are very poor. No real value outside of getting a guy on a prove it deal coming off an unproductive rookie deal.

Re-purposing Shady McCoy in the passing offense
Mat68 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he is back in 2019 I think it would have to be in a role player capacity. Buffalo should not enter the season depending on McCoy for their rushing attack. A younger FA and a rookie need to be added. Utilized in an uptempo spread out package would play to his strengths. Like how NE uses white.q -
Instead of over paying for 3 or 4 mid level guys, I would go big game hunting. Full court press one of the edge rushers and interior lineman and then sign some young guys to prove it deals after the rush dies down. Bringing a guy in because you have the money is not the answer imo. Especially, where the draft meets your value.
