The Bills need to keep Duke Williams
Mat68 replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those were his stats every year in Buffalo. Woods still has never caught more than 6 tds. Jones is a better wr than McKenzie and Williams. He should be on the roster. I think in a better circumstance this year, with better players around he can improve. I'm not saying anything other than that. What part? The catches? or the yards? Or Tds? -

I think too many fans are hyperbolic about Zay Jones. Mainly, the Carolina play, and drop down the stretch vs Miami. He got better last year. Is he AB or OBJ no, not even close. He is a NFL wr. Robert Woods was Zay Jones in Buffalo. Last year Jones actually put up not terrible numbers considering the circumstances. Hes still only 24. Why can't he play better with better peices around him? -

Zay's season last year was as good as any season Woods had with the Bill's. Jones scored more TDs last year then Woods has in any season of his career. -

From his rookie year to last season he doubled his catches, yards, and catch rate. He tripled his TDs and increased his yards per target by 2 yards. Why is he done improving as a wr? Because, he hasn't lit up preseason? Let's not forget what this team was for half the season. They were a dumpster fire. Having the same Qb for hopefully the whole season will help as well. Nevertheless, Williams made a great catch over a backup db and has more potential. Got it. -

We will agree to disagree. I know Williams was prolific his last season. My point is it wasn't his first. He was 3 years out of college. Zay gets a bum wrap imo. Zay is the more complete player. You can line Zay up anywhere in formation you cant say the same for Williams. Of all the receivers on the team Jones still has most potential. -

He was also a starter year 2 with a new Co Ordinator. Not that it's his fault, but Jones was the best Wr Buffalo had the last 2 years. Let's not demonize the guys working in the NFL and basically the only wr with a pulse the last 2 season. Before he was ready? Sure was. Does that mean hes a bust? Nope. This moment in Dukes career he was a JAG in the Canadian football league. Zay has atleast has been a JAG in the NFL. Does Zay need to step up? Yes. I have more faith in him doing it over Williams. -

Too be fair though... Zay made the team his rookie year. Actually, won a starting position on the first team to make the playoffs in 20 years for the franchise. His first two season have had some highs and lows. If Williams puts up the numbers Jones did last year, hes a steal with promise. Hes only 27 ya know? Maybe its expectations, but I think Jones still has potential. Not drawing the most attention from defenses this year imo will lend him to better matchups and more production. -
Matt Barkley - taking things more serious?
Mat68 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
0 chance Barkley plays unless Allen gets hurt. Allen is going to make that every now and again. It's also going to create 50 yard gains. To be fair it didnt hurt him or the team Friday because of the defensive penalty. Hes got the Farve mindset to him. For as much as you dont want him to make those type of plays, it's what also could make him great. -

Mat68 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is who he is. His anticipatory style of Qb creates a good change up to Allen. With Allen's arm strength and athleticism he can hold the ball longer than Barkley can. To me he can come in and win a few games. After a small samples size he will come around similar to Fitzmagic turn to Fitztragic. Defenders sit on routes and flood the windows he operates in. He is a top tier backup. He is good enough to help keep Allen sharp but not talented enough to be divisive in the locker room or fan base. -
Report: NFL owners pitch 18-game schedule
Mat68 replied to nucci's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is the owners playing 3 d chess. The 18 games, 16 player restriction is stupid. However, the conversation begins from the NFLPA. How much would the extra weeks provide in revenue? Boom, you are now negotiating a 18 game schedule. -
Clowney had a major impact on that defense. Imo, their is a massive front office/ coaching staff disconnect in that organization. The last 3 to 5 years has been a power struggle of sorts since their longtime GM/President, semi retired, returned, and retired. I think Clowneys contract status unfolded all during this time. From my understanding contract talks started and stopped multiple times, and now its deteriorated. Why a player can agree to a contract is largely irrelevant. Clowney hasnt been a cancer like AB. NFL players are starting to flex some negotiating muscle for the first time. The franchise tag is *****.. The tag wasnt intended for what it is used for. It was a fall safe for teams to have some leverage to negotiate long term. More often then not teams low ball the player and dont negotiate in good faith. Buffalo has a foundation. They have found a winning formula imo. What makes Buffalo a playoff contender or Superbowl contender are a few impact players. Whether its trade, Fa, or development. Clowney would be an impact player.

Sounds like the reports that came out when Buffalo was rumored to trade for than not trade A Brown. Clowney doesnt sign tender he isnt traded. Buffalo imo still isnt out of it. They have a top defense and could pitch Clowney puts them into contender status. Much like how Mack was credited for the turn around. Even Chi had a top 10 defense the year before.

Good reason to not let your kids play football
Mat68 replied to Bubba Gump's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Correct. But I love my kids more than football. Looking back at playing football from pee wee through high school and understanding that every "ding" I got was a minor concussion, was jarring for me. Getting your body used to contact, for me means something different and now darker. I never had what I thought was a concussion while playing. Now older I now know I never had a severe one. My sons will not have a concussion until they are more physically more mature and can sort of more understand the risks associated with playing organized tackle football. There are positives gained from playing football at any skill level. To me the positives dont out way the risks til they are older and they beg me to allow them to play it. I want them to beg me because they will truly need to love it to play it. If they dont there is not a point to do it. -
Tyree Jackson is an ideal practice squad candidate
Mat68 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Deserve? No. Is he athletic enough and have a strong enough arm to play in the NFL? Yes. Does he have enough accuracy to play in the NFL? Right now? No. Even with the percieved lack of accuracy Allen had coming out of college. Allen made NFL throws all over the field in his rookie preseason. It's a choir for Jackson to complete a pass. Jackson has to show alot to earn a spot on P.S imo. Come friday there will be many qbs cut who will be further along in becoming an NFL qb than where Jackson is. -

I dont see what benefit my 12 or 13 year old son gains from playing varsity. Even if he is a specimen. Playing other sports without the same level of contact will improve his body and mind in other areas that makes up for the percieved deficits in nuance. If they are in the 95 percentile in athletic ability to gain collegiate recognition it doesnt matter if they start in pads at 5, 10, or 14. -

If they were drawn to football and had arms, there is flag football and 7 on 7. -
How many of the 53 on opening day aren’t on the team today?
Mat68 replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see them signing 1 player waived. A punter. Barring a trade I dont a position void of talent. -

Living in an area I'm not born and raised, I wouldn't feel comfortable having my sons taught the sport by men I dont know. I work too many hours to coach myself. At this point I'm not a fan of them playing tackle football until high school age. That doesnt limited their ability to play past high school if they are talented. It does limited their exposure to injury and concussions. -
Bills Leadership Panel of 17 players identified
Mat68 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good luck utilizing a power run game without a lead blocker. His best year was also under Shanahan where he was a reliable outlet back. Buffalo runs a multiple offense and he also allows them to go power run 1 play spread the next. 10 catches and maybe 1 highlight TD for Williams doesnt make Duke a larger impact. -

Brown, Beasley, Foster, Roberts, Jones are the 5. The rest comes down to how many Wrs? Seperation is more important than size in the regular season. McKenzie is the 6th. I dont see how they keep 7. Williams is on a short list of who they call if a Wr goes down. I think Yeldon makes the roster. That makes 5 Rb/Fb not enough room for an extra Wr.
