AP count: Over 4,300 virus patients sent to NY nursing homes By BERNARD CONDON, JENNIFER PELTZ and JIM MUSTIAN Updated: May 22, 2020 05:01 AM Created: May 22, 2020 01:02 AM NEW YORK (AP) - More than 4,300 recovering coronavirus patients were sent to New York's already vulnerable nursing homes under a controversial state directive that was ultimately scrapped amid criticisms it was accelerating the nation's deadliest outbreaks, according to a count by The Associated Press. AP compiled its own tally to find out how many COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals to nursing homes under the March 25 directive after New York's Health Department declined to release its internal survey conducted two weeks ago. It says it is still verifying data that was incomplete. Whatever the full number, nursing home administrators, residents' advocates and relatives say it has added up to a big and indefensible problem for facilities that even Gov. Andrew Cuomo - the main proponent of the policy - called "the optimum feeding ground for this virus." https://www.whec.com/politics/ap-count-over-4300-virus-patients-sent-to-ny-nursing-homes/5737650/?cat=565

China seizes control of PPE factories, sparking fear of new coronavirus wave By Ebony Bowden, Heather Hauswirth | New York Post China’s Communist Party is again seizing factory lines churning out the world’s supply of medical safety gear — sparking fears the country is preparing for a second wave of the coronavirus, American traders in China told The Post. New Yorker Moshe Malamud, who has done business in China for over two decades, was moving tens of millions of pieces of protective gear to the U.S. at the height of the crisis but said suppliers in recent weeks had been overwhelmed with orders from the Chinese government. https://www.foxnews.com/world/china-ppe-factories-seizures-coronavirus-wave-fears

  7. ...realistically though, aren't science and capitalists the ideal "antis" in something like this?.....scientists seem to be worst case doom and gloom gang whereas capitalists are more optimistic.....if, IF this pandemic is an overreaction, scientists disappear while capitalists thump their chests...in the meantime, we suffer because of warring factions.......I'm concerned about the least addressed of "in betweens".....for example, what are the socioeconomic effects of these shutdowns?....familial financial deterioration (yet the fault of those living paycheck to paycheck?), increases in depression, suicides, spousal violence, et al?.....or how about social skills of children being away from the classroom since March?...is "pressed into service" of home schooling as effective as "live in the classroom instruction"?......just don't see where "all things considered" is actually a "consideration"...

  10. ...I would assume that Beane talked to McDermott & Daboll about going after Diggs and their perception as a "fit in the offense".....hope so because he surrendered significant draft capital.....so if Beane's "perceived utilization" in this offense differs widely form Daboll's "actual utilization", who wins out?.....irrespective of whether it was a good signing or not (a lengthy discussion for another day), Beane was quoted as saying, "the Duke Williams signing negated signing a WR early as a top priority"......sounds like high hopes, yet Daboll started him 3 games ( think).... so did Beane overestimate his potential contribution or did Daboll play hardball for whatever reason and win out?.....
  11. ...yet Gruesome Newsome, the former SF mayor (what does THAT tell you), said the Feds have a "moral obligation to the American people" to help out individual states.....he's the poster boy for irresponsible fiscal mismanagement......and how many MILLIONS of Cali taxpayer dollars did he just commit to help ILLEGAL immigrants?.....BOTH sets of my late grandparents came through Ellis Island LEGALLY and didn't get a nickel......

  14. ...was just at my doc's office for six month follow-up.....he is fairly confident that a Covid-19 vaccine will be out by November....asked him what the annual effective percentage is for flu vaccine and he said 55-60%.......from his hours of research and study, he's confident a Covid-19 vaccine could be 65-75% effective because there are less strains to deal with FWIW......contradicts the MSM "doom and gloom explosion of multiple strains"......

Feds revoked license for failed Edenville dam in 2018 amid concerns it couldn't withstand major flooding Published 6 hours ago Michigan FOX 2 Detroit MIDLAND CO. Mich. - The previous owner of the Edenville hydroelectric dam that failed to hold back rising floodwaters and eventually ruptured Tuesday had its license revoked in 2018. Boyce Hydro Power which operated the dam before agreeing to sell it this year had failed for years to make repairs to it. In 2018, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ordered the company to shut down all electric-generating equipment. Among chief concerns from the regulatory commission was potential for the dam to fail if floodwaters rose to high. On Tuesday, after heavy rain over the weekend and into the week, the dam ruptured allowing water from the Wixom lake to spill through the barrier. The rushing waters then burst another dam, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents around the Tittabawassee River and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to issue a state of emergency for Midland County. https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/feds-revoked-license-for-failed-edenville-dam-in-2018-amid-concerns-it-couldnt-withstand-major-flooding GREAT LAKES ECHO-By Justin Anderson There are more than 2,600 dams in Michigan, many of which are not maintained and no longer serve a purpose. Many are considered unsafe due to risk of collapse. Unmaintained dams deteriorate, threatening homes and property or people who may be downstream, said Chris Freiburger, a supervisor with the fisheries division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. https://greatlakesecho.org/2013/04/22/michigan-pulls-the-plug-on-dams/

Cuomo downplays calls for federal probe into nursing home coronavirus deaths: 'Ask President Trump' By Andrew O'Reilly | Fox News New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday brushed off calls for the Department of Justice to open an investigation into the massive number of deaths in the state’s nursing homes during the coronavirus pandemic – claiming he was only following guidelines from the Trump administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While no formal probe has been announced, the speculation comes amid scrutiny of his March 25 directive that required nursing homes to take on new patients infected with COVID-19. The order stated that "[nursing homes] are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission." Nursing homes in New York – which has been the epicenter of the public health crisis – have been particularly devastated by the pandemic, with the death toll in the facilities topping more than 5,000 as of earlier this week. Cuomo recently issued a new directive stating that hospitals cannot send patients back to nursing homes in the state unless they test negative for the virus. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/cuomo-probe-into-nursing-home-coronavirus-deaths-ask-president-trump

Mnuchin says employees who reject offer to return to work are ineligible for unemployment benefits By Brooke Singman | Fox News May 19, 2020 Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned on Tuesday that individuals who reject an offer from their company to return to work after being laid off due to coronavirus are no longer considered eligible to receive federal unemployment benefits. Mnuchin said that companies receiving benefits under the Payroll Protection Program who are inviting employees who had been laid off or furloughed due to the coronavirus crisis to return to work should plan to notify state unemployment offices of their offers. If the employee, in turn, turns down the job, they would then be considered ineligible to receive expanded unemployment benefits. “If you offer a person a job..and that person does not take the job..then that person would not be allowed to get unemployment,” Mnuchin said Tuesday. Mnuchin’s comments come as Republican lawmakers have ramped up warnings that the recent boost in jobless benefits amid COVID-19 will “push unemployment higher,” as many individuals are able to collect more money through the unemployment programs than they made while on the job. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mnuchin-says-employees-who-reject-offer-to-return-to-work-are-ineligible-for-unemployment-benefits "The Wall Street Journal reported last month that about half of U.S. workers can earn more with these jobless benefits than they did while working -- a factor that could hurt efforts by some businesses to reopen."
