  1. He's talking about the corners and safeties, not the Nickel, which is why I am asking why he believes the front 7 personnel dictates more or less run responsibility for those guys. As far as our scheme - it's not "designed to stop the pass" - it's designed to put better athletes on the field. Our issue in the run game hasn't been with our Nickel getting mauled. Our issue has been our DL not commanding double teams the past two weeks or not even attempting to get hands on OL so that they can't free release to second level defenders. The notion that adding a single LB that weighs 20lbs. more but moves slower will solve the problems in the run game is absurd. I think people hear 4-3 personnel and assume that it's a "formation" like an offensive formation. That's not how defense works. Alignments are based on the call and what formation the offense comes out in.
  2. I want to know your thought process here. How does 4-2 personnel "put a more intense tackling penalty on our secondary" than 4-3 personnel?
  3. They did. His name is Matt Milano.
  4. The personnel on the field has nothing to do with their role in run support. The scheme/offensive formation dictates that.
  5. Everyone since Baltimore has played really wide high box players (edge rushers), but since KC Josh has been reluctant to step up into the pocket that is being given to him. He’s throwing off his back foot a lot more. Everything else mechanically has looked normal.
  6. Allen hasn’t been stepping up into the pocket since the KC game.
  7. I dunno, I saw multiple times today that Allen had an underneath route wide open and he chose to push the ball downfield instead. That one that was thrown way behind Diggs late in the game on a 2nd down that almost got picked off was one of them. It's frustrating to watch.
  8. The 2nd & 1 from the 38 is the play he got injured on.
  9. They ran the same exact call on 1st and Goal on that last drive. Jaquan was the one who messed up earlier as I had thought. Von makes the tackle for loss.
  10. A breakdown of the big runs on the final drive: 1st & 10 from the NYJ 4 - GH Counter: Epenesa gets washed - DaQuan Jones actually makes a really good play to cross hats once he recognizes Counter and then misses the tackle at the line of scrimmage. 1st & 10 from the NYJ 20 - GH Counter: We slant the DL to the Counter - Epenesa gets reached and doesn't fit his gap. 1st & 10 from the NYJ 36 - Stretch with Split Zone misdirection: Shaq Lawson and Benford both lose the edge. Shaq misses the tackle at the line of scrimmage. 2nd & 1 from the BUF 38 - Trap: We're rolling 3 into the Trap which should put us in a really good situation. Oliver doesn't get hands on the guard and allows him to work second level. Shaq and Bernard fit properly. Jaquan way to slow to roll to fit C gap and end up getting cracked by the outside receiver. Dane Jackson slow to replace on the crack and then misses the tackle.
  11. Yeah, the one we gave up 208 yards rushing for 6.7 yards per carry. Our run defense was horrific. If you're suggesting otherwise I dunno what to tell you. I agree with this. Whats lost on a lot of people around here is that Milano is able to do a lot of the things he does because of what Edmunds does within the scheme. It is built to bounce everything out to Milano and Taron. Those are the two dudes who should be making the most impact plays and for the most part they do. As far as posting, I should be able to do a lot more of it as soon as my season wraps up.
  12. Defense looked like trash last week with Milano in. You do realize Milano is able to roam untouched the majority of the time because the DL and Edmunds are doing the dirty work, right? He's an outside/in fitter - everything gets pushed to him. Milano struggles mightily against gap schemes when he's forced to actually take on blockers. Move Milano into Edmunds role and you put him in a position to do that every single play - he'd look horrific. Hudl
  13. Jets didn't do anything ground breaking. They ran Zone Read out of a Trips Closed set. Looks like a variation of Cover 0 with inside/out double coverage on the backside inline tight end. Jones gets reached by the Tackle which allowed the Guard to work up to Hamlin. If Jones doesn't get reached they are gapped out. Seems like an odd call on 1st down with as much gap scheme as the Jets were running which makes me wonder if Jaquan Johnson was suppose to blitz which would have allowed Von to play the dive instead of the QB. I'm guessing this is what should have happened based on pre-snap alignment and post-snap defensive line angles. Two off the edge - Jaquan blitzes to up field shoulder of QB and Von gets a TFL on the dive.
  14. We played a lot more man this week than we have all year long. I gotta imagine that had a lot to do with it.
  15. Everyone who thought Bernard would be a shoe in Edmunds replacement just got hit in the face with reality 😂
  16. Just like everyone thinks we're in a 6 man box because we base out of Nickel... smfh. The Jets out-schemed us. Schemed us a couple times while we were in man to take Edmunds completely out of the box and force Bernard and our Nickel to fit, and then formation-ed us and ran Counter forcing Bernard and/or our Nickels to fit. We haven't stopped Counter in two weeks and that has nothing to do with Edmunds.
  17. They won't be able to tell you. Everyone around here just throws out blanket statements without any clue how stopping the run actually works.
  18. You guys do realize the offensive formation dictates to box, right? The personnel has literally nothing to do with it...
  19. Until we can figure out how to fit counter we’re screwed. No one will even attempt to throw on us…
  20. I can tell you just from watching the game that isn't true. We played a 50, 00, 50 the majority of the night.
  21. Nickel personnel doesn’t mean we played with 6 in the box FYI
  22. Why? With as much gap scheme stuff they do it'll hurt us vs the run more than help us vs the pass.
  23. Yes, always... I get a lot of fans aren't in the know about X's and O's but that's something I'm sure you can google and find out... EDIT: Here you go - I did the legwork for you. Picked the first thing that popped up when I googled it. If you don't want to read all of it here's the part where it discusses the option. "The first option is almost always to throw the ball to an open receiver downfield. They can either throw on the run to a receiver who is running a route in the same direction, or he can stop, plant his feet, and throw back across the field to a receiver running a deep route or a route toward the other side of the field. Quarterbacks will also have the option of pulling the ball down and running with it."
  24. They all have that option. That's bootlegs by design. If the throw is there you take it, but if the defenders don't bite and play coverage you have the option to keep it.
