    2023 Concerts

We went to the Great Blue Heron Music Festival in Sherman NY this past weekend. It's a small fest with regional and/or up-and-coming bands. (Rusted Root played the first one 32 years ago, back when they were unknown outside of the Pittsburgh area.) Every year we get turned on to one or more great bands that we'd never heard of before. A few years back we saw Buffalo's own Funktional Flow, a jam band that I highly recommend. This year's highlights included Jim Donovan and the Sun King Warriors (Jim was the original drummer for Rusted Root), Smackdab (from Jamestown NY) Couch, and Buffalo band Farrow.
  10. Not as exotic as Greece, but I ran into a guy with a Bills hat at Mesa Verde National Park in SW Colorado. I said, "Go Bills," and we talked for a few minutes. I asked if he was from WNY and he said he had lived there for a while.
  11. Well I'm going down Down, down, down, down, down I'm going down Down, down, down, down, down I've got my head out the window And my big feet on the ground
  12. 'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin' If I can't get it on my own If you don't like the way I'm livin' You just leave this long-haired country boy alone
  13. No no no no, I don't sniff it no more I'm tired of waking up on the floor No, thank you, please, It only makes me sneeze And then it makes it hard to find the door
  14. I hadn't seen it until someone here started a thread about it several years ago. In short, the main character is despicable, and when he goes home to visit his parents in Buffalo, you understand why he's that way. I had mixed feelings about it. It was gripping in a way, but uncomfortable. Some people don't like movies like that, but I find them interesting. It's not a "feel good" movie, other than feeling good that I was raised by much better people than his parents. I have a friend who's a psychology professor. She teaches a course called "Life Span Development," which she jokingly describes as, "101 ways to blame your parents." I suggested that she see Buffalo 66. I don't know if she did.
  15. I caught you smilin' at me That's the way it should be Like a leaf is to a tree, so fine
  16. Out of college, money spent See no future, pay no rent All the money's gone, nowhere to go
  17. I had a girlfriend in high school who was a shot-putter on the track team. At one meet, their mile runner was sick, so my then-GF - who, by the way, was built like a shot-putter, not a miler - stepped up and ran it. I don't remember if she came in last, but she finished it.
  18. I look at the floor And I see it needs sweeping Still my guitar gently weeps
  19. ... or not being intelligent enough to understand the math.
  20. I know you, rider, gonna miss me when I'm gone I know you, rider, gonna miss me when I'm gone Gonna miss your baby, from rolling in your arms
  21. Better yet, get the seller to toss it in at no extra cost. We did that with our current house. After the 1st winter, the furnace died. While the home warranty didn't pay for a replacement, they did offer a few grand to repair the old one. We took the money and applied it toward a new one. And we didn't renew the home warranty after that.
  22. I've had enough of dance halls I've had enough of pills I've had enough of street fights I've seen my share of kills
