  13. It's recognized in Catholicism too, but they call it "annulment," as if it never happened. My brother was married for 24 years. He and his wife had a son together. After they divorced, he met someone and wanted to remarry, but the only way to do that in the Catholic church is to have the first marriage annulled. (You guessed it: there's a fee involved in that process.) So basically, pay a tithe and the church will turn a blind eye to your first marriage. I'm sorry, but that's just a racket.
