  1. Ray Lewis probably meant that if he, having developed a certain style back then, went back and played now, he'd struggle with the new rules. (Can't teach an old dog new tricks.) Fair enough, but my point is that if those had been the rules while they were growing up and learning, their style of play would have matched the rules and they'd have still been great players. (The dog learns the tricks when he's young.) It's not that it's more difficult to play now than i was then - the difficulty is changing. Maybe Ray can't imagine playing in today's league, but if he were a modern linebacker, he'd probably still be HOF caliber.
  2. If the rules had been different back then, you don't think it's possible that elite players like Bruce, Reggie, and Ronnie would have developed a playing style that fit the rules?
  3. I have a buddy who's been investing in ETFs. (They're like mutual funds.) He told me that his best performing fund is the one that includes online gambling sites. So on behalf of my friend Wayne, thanks to all of you who gamble online. 🍺
  4. Wish I was back on the Bayou. Rollin' with some Cajun Queen. Wishin' I were a fast freight train, Just a chooglin' on down to New Orleans.
  5. We're in north-central IL - about 10 miles south of the Cheddar Curtain and 70 miles northwest of The Loop. We feed the orioles grape jelly (cheaper than oranges) and they stay all summer. If we forget to put the jelly out before they arrive in May, they'll land on the spot where we normally keep the feeder and look into our window. We've seen Northern Orioles every year we've lived in this house (11 years and counting). About three years ago, we began to see Orchard Orioles as well. Now they come back every year too.
  6. A few years ago, we had the pleasure of watching a pair of orioles build their nest in an elm tree about 10 feet from our deck.
  7. How many Super Bowls do they have to win before you're no longer Hapless?
  8. His decision to sign with the Bills and his responses to the interview questions both show a lot of maturity on Mitch's part. He didn't badmouth Chicago or do the "woe is me" thing about his situation there. He put the onus on himself, acknowledged that he needs to grow, and recognized Buffalo as a place where he could learn and improve himself. Yeah, it was full of cliches and I'm sure his agent coached him on how to approach interviews (knowing his next team would pay attention to that), but that just shows that he's coachable.

  11. The mama looked down and spit on the ground Every time my name gets mentioned The papa said, "Oy, if I get that boy I'm gonna stick him in the house of detention"
  12. I find it hard to believe that McD doesn't have significant input on that, especially since he's a defensive coach.
  13. I liked him from the start, but having been burned before, I was reserving judgement on whether he could take the team to the promised land. I was kind of sold after the Thanksgiving Day Massacre in Dallas, but the definitive point was beating the Steelers in their house to clinch a playoff spot. In fact, the exact moment I knew he was The Guy was when the Steelers played "Renegade," and the Bills effectively made it their own rallying song. When the announcers said something about McD playing that song at practice to prepare the team for it, I knew he paid attention to the details and could game-plan with the best of them.
  14. <Shameless plug alert> Last year, my lovely and talented wife wrote a book about backyard homesteading. Shortly after its release, the publisher asked her to write a new book, Organic Gardening for Beginners. It'll be released later this month, but you can pre-order it now if you'd like a copy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1648769640?maas=maas_adg_5EEEEFDAA7234896C53E785123756AAE_afap_abs&ref_=aa_maas

  17. Doesn't make a lot of sense in context, either. Then again, I don't know what goes on at retirement home orgies, so maybe that's the missing context.
  18. A couple of years ago, someone let a kickoff roll into the endzone and didn't bother to pick it up and take a knee. Instead, the opposing team (Jets, I think?) fell on it for a TD.
