You're right - my mistake. The meat of the OP was more about a player's first couple of years, and that's the part I remembered when I was posting, but looking again I see more references to day 1 and camps at the beginning and end.

Not necessarily. GMs evaluate college players, not rookies. College success doesn't always translate to NFL success. The OP was about knowing whether rookies have it.

What we got was a square peg in a round hole. Rex took a top-five defense and tried to mold it into his scheme. But he lacked the personnel to run that scheme. Agreed, but the Bills didn't trade a draft pick for Anderson or Barkley. There are veteran QBs on the open market that they could have gotten without spending draft capital. Someone mentioned Cam Newton already. I know his arm is shot, but Flacco's recent record isn't great either. They're not going to salvage the season anyway, they just want a vet for the rookie to learn from.
