Wow. This schedule...looks harder than we thought!
corta765 replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would disagree coming into this season you knew in advance you were playing Big Ben, Russell, Tannehill, Goff etc.. and complete well coached teams like San Fran. Part of making the playoffs means a tougher crossover schedule and the NFC West was the crossover division. Opening 4-0 bought them some leash and at least the division is having more of a down year. Last year Buffalo won the games they were supposed to against a pretty weak schedule. If the Bills go 10-6/11-5 it will be a more impressive finish just given the competition they faced. The wins over the Rams Phins and Raiders are better then virtually all of their wins last year also. -
Exercise how he stays in shape

Yep thats pretty much accurate record wise. More or less without Brady he is a .500 coach. I don't blame BB for the last season in CLE and the record they had the move of the team blew everything to bits it was full on chaos. It is interesting because in terms of longevity only Don Shula really went a run like this and he missed at points the playoffs.

This times a million. They hit the Jets RZ and then forgot about Beasley who has been eating teams in the middle which drove me crazy.

A Few Thoughts About the Jets Game, in no particular order
corta765 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Few things that have hurt the offense the last three weeks. 1. Turnovers- Titans game we turn the ball over opening drive immediately putting us behind, yesterday we have an opportunity to tie or go up and fumble. 2. Playing from Behind- Down 7-0 to the Titans, 3-0 and then 10-7 to KC, and yesterday 10-0. This offense weeks 1-4 came out firing and was not down early they dictated the play. Once they were behind the last 3 weeks it felt like they backed off the accelerator out of fear of turnovers. Like most teams the Bills offense does better when they are leading or at least tied. 3. Costly Penalties- Lets see we lost a TD to Davis due to illegal formation, after an 11 yard lost on first down Winters took 5 yards to make it 2nd and 26 on the Jets side of the ball, and 1st and goal on the 7 Botteger takes a 10 yard holding penalty and the Bills fumble later on. In general the last three weeks the team itself has played very undisciplined and the penalties in the redzone absolutely hurt. 4. Redzone Play Calling has been Conservative- After Allen through the 50/50 ball to Davis that was almost picked I felt the Bills offense got unnecessarily conservative or just dumb at points in the Jets redzone. On the drive that resulted in a missed FG to keep it 12-10 the 2nd down play was a screen to Singletary that got blown up. 3rd and 2 was an RPO with everyone in a jumbo set at the line that got stopped. The entire game Beasley and Kroft are working the middle and the moment we hit the RZ we stop. No play action either which may have bought time for Josh to mess with the Jets secondary. The Titans game they were not uber conservative, but the last two weeks I feel like they have not attacked the way they did before. I am not talking about big deep plays but passing north instead of the many east/west plays theyve ran. Perhaps its because KC it was game plan to run clock or yesterday the Jets just werent a major threat but I hate how vanilla we got. -
Three Most Likely Outcomes For The Next 4 Game Stretch
corta765 replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get what your saying with the Pats D but Allen is much better at taking what he is given and the second game last year showed as much. If the Bills can score 21-24 pts I would think they win. The Pats D lost a lot to opt outs and the offense prior to today’s disaster hasn’t been very potent. If NE had better WR/TEs I would be nervous of your rushing attack, but given the lack of weapons I’d expect Buffalo to load the box regularly. As long as Milano plays the Buffalo D should be ok, if he’s out Cam and Bill I would expect to take advantage. -

Their coming to Buffalo with no fans here to help at homefield, they do not have issues typically on the road, and they have an MVP QB who is playing at his best. -
Three Most Likely Outcomes For The Next 4 Game Stretch
corta765 replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear what your saying but I am at the point it is not just a small stretch. Through the first four games I would've understood it and the defense not gelling, but against the Rams, Dolphins, & Raiders even when we were leading the defense still allowed points to make it too close. Ironically the two best games of the defense may have been the last two given the Titans with injuries they got screwed with bad field position and the Chiefs game the game plan was to drag it down as much as possible. The losses that they have on D have shown big time and Hyde who has regressed now for two years where he has become a liability. I think with Milano back and White if they can play a few games together mixed with Zimmer and Cox coming up they can become a middling defense that can make a few more stops. But I have given up hope that we will see the defense of the last few years and success will be more scheme and individual talent sticking out then the defense as a whole. -

Three Most Likely Outcomes For The Next 4 Game Stretch
corta765 replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am betting the offense picks it up a bit where they do get those wins. No doubt if they play like the last two games were 1-3 They did lose that game to Det. I just look with how our D is and how good their O is it may be too much based on how our D has been. Obviously I’d they improve a bit I would pick BUF It’s funny I want NE more as a win but SEA would be this orgs biggest win ever. -
The next four games are pretty crucial for the season and I have them broke down for the most likely scenarios: 3-1 - The Jets game is expected and a must win, but getting two of three to get the Bills at 7-3 would really help to solidify the division chances and give some distance for the stretch after the bye. Personally beating NE means more to me then SEA despite the hawks being a better team. If the Bills can get NE and split the NFCW I think they are in really good shape. 2-2 - This scenario is dependent on who the two wins come against. If the Bills beat NYJ/NE I am not devastated losing the next two because of the division implications and tie breakers they get on AFC wins. Worst case scenario would be the Bills don't win the AFC games but somehow win both NFC games. The only positive there is the Jets getting a win would potentially stop them from getting T Law which would be kind of funny granted at our expense. If the Bills beat the Jets and Cards that would be probably the worst case 2-2 stretch as the Bills would fall again to the Pats and lose again to a great team SEA reigniting more issues about the team not being good enough. 1-3 - Beat the Jets and lose the next three yikes. Even if they beat the Pats and lost the other three it doesn't do a enough for the division the door is still open. I don't want to even have to think about what if the Bills lose both AFC games and only get an NFC win. For me I see them going 2-2 with wins against the Jets and Pats solidifying the division, but struggling against SEA and losing out west against ARZ. I think the Bills need to make some addition on defense whether trade or FA to get me to 3-1. The offense has stretch coming up where they can certainly score against the defenses that they are playing, but my confidence is low the defense can do enough against SEA or ARZ to keep them at bay. The Pats will be a tough game but Buffalo has more talent to overcome BB plans and I honestly haven't been impressed with NE as the season is progressing. BB's gameplans are keeping this team closer then it should be which is really my greatest fear. Talent wise the offense doesn't have much after Edelman who has been good and the defense isn't bad but not the same as in years prior.

The Maddening Mystery of McDermott's Disappearing Defense
corta765 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree. Titans game he had one truly awful pass the rest of the game I don't blame him for. After the INT the Bills score to get it back to 28-16 with 10 mins plus left to play. The defense proceeds to allow a TD drive that includes three different 3rd downs they can stop. Then Roberts fumbles the ball. By the time the Bills offense gets the ball back its is 42-16 with 2:00 mins left. The Titans game the offense at least was moving the ball and getting some chunk plays. The defense and special teams effectively made it where they couldn't make a single mistake. The offense was certainly not perfect, but they moved the ball enough that they could've helped get a W as the yards gained showed. The Chiefs game I totally agree was a tire fire and it was concerning to see Allen look so off to the point it brought back 2018 or last years bad games. In the first 5 games you could depend on the offense to at least move the ball on drives, in this game they couldn't stop with short drives and time of possession showed it. -
The Maddening Mystery of McDermott's Disappearing Defense
corta765 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post my only comment would be on the offense regressing to the mean. IMO Allen actually played pretty well outside of the 2nd INT against TEN. Otherwise I thought he was pretty sharp and with a little more help by the guys on D they would've been ok. I still think the offense will carry the team to the playoffs and there is much to believe they will including the fact the division is the most wide open it has been in forever. If the mean is they are a top 10 attack because of the passing game making plays as they have I think we are ok. That said I think it is foolish to believe the defense will reach a point where you can rely on them how we had for a few years now and if Josh reverts back to last years play this season very well could become a shoulda, coulda, woulda type year across the board. -
Not just falling were now into space with how fast people have panicked.

Remember the JA to Wentz comparisons?
corta765 replied to DCofNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure why people get so in a tizzy with Allen comparisons or prior statements. At the time of the Wentz comparisons he was coming off a MVP caliber season which his team was one of the best in football and won the SB. They've made the playoffs the two seasons since and he would've played more in the playoffs if he didn't get a concussion which wasn't his fault. In his three seasons after his rookie year he has averaged 27 TDs, 7 ints, and 3500 yds. He has zero weapons this season or their broken and still has managed to get the Eagles offense going now. Are their injury concerns for Wentz? Absolutely and he seems to be pressing without solid weapons around him. But I am not surprised either given most QBs would press if they don't have much help. You can see how much Allen has benefited from a guy like Diggs in the lineup and even Davis coming of age. Josh absolutely has a higher ceiling and could be a bigger star then Wentz, but Wentz has justified his 1st round draft pick and given good stability at QB for the Eagles something most teams would desire. -
I'm speaking his first two years, once Rex came it was Tyrods team he said as much and EJ was already damaged.
-
Most QB's do not make the NFL or stick because their development isn't proper and their are circumstances or an injury that side track their growth. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are perfect examples of QB's who got the support and proper development to become good players. I will freely say EJ development absolutely got sidelined, but his potential was limited to being a certain type of QB i.e using his mobility to create plays with his legs including running the ball. The moment his knee got jacked against CLE either he or the coaching staff or both stopped running him and he did become gunshy. I think regardless his chances of sticking in the NFL were limited and he really would've needed a unique coach like Greg Roman or McVay to maximize his talent. But I did think you saw some progress into the CLE game of what he could've done. The Bills certainly gave him weapons at WR, the O line wasn't bad, and the defense improved. His decision making always was the biggest issue and I am not sure any coaching can save that for a player.

Week 6 Chiefs at Bills predict the score.
corta765 replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills 32 Chiefs or Chefs lol 28 The rain will help slow KC down just enough and with Milano and White in the defense Buffalo pulls the upset. 1st half both teams trade TDs twice and the game is tied 14-14 at half. Bills open the 3rd quarter with a TD drive finishing with Moss getting a TD. KC has a rare turnover with a fumble and the Bills get a FG. KC gets a TD to end the half to make it 24-21. With 9 mins to go Buffalo gets the ball and Allen hits Brown for a 40 yd TD. The Bills go for two to make it a two score game that needs two KC TDs to lose and convert. KC gets one of those TDs but can’t get the other as they flame out before midfield and the Bills run the clock out. Allen 22-28 295 yds 2 TD 85 yds rushing 1 TD Singletary 15 rushes 72 yds 45 yds rec 1 TD Brown 4 rec 125 yds 1 TD Bonus defensive stat Tre White fumble rec -
Last Night was 1991 week 6 in KC Revisited

That’s where I am. I get it’s fun to do the glory games thing and this game is a bump in the road/ rallying cry but it gets annoying and it unrealistic. This team hasn’t won a division crown let alone had the success of a SB run. They still need to make their mark a bit more before I want to start comparing to SB teams -
So we are cool with the defense allowing an average out 32.5 pts a game not including the Jets who are a NCAA division 3 team? I get tired of the injury excuse because every team has injuries and you have to be able to overcome that. We have the 30th ranked 3rd down defense in the league they can't get off the field. The adjustments don't exist, the defense makes no impact plays, and in general they look figured out by opposing offenses and lack luster energy wise. Coordinators are fired all the time sometimes its a good way to jolt awake an otherwise non responding unit.

I have been hyper critical of the defenses failing to start the season. But to the defense of Beane I do not believe he foresaw Star opting out. With Star to eat space I believe Buffalo's D would be doing a bit better, not Top 5 better but it would have certainly helped. I never understood the criticism of Star once we signed him and by the end of last year I think people understood his importance even if the numbers didn't reflect it. Star opted out on July 29th which isn't a lot of time to find or fill a suitable replacement. Also Beane will not be perfect everytime. I will fault him for the defensive line additions in the first 5 games not making an impact, but it isn't like he ignored the position either. The major mistake to me was I think Beane thought AJ would step right in for Shaq which hasn't happened to this time. Clowney was there to go for as added strength and he never seemed interested even after Star left. But Beane has found a lot of guys in the past including Phillips and I believe he will find more this may have just been a bad year.

Its fun to laugh at yourself for sports rage moments in the past when you look back. I was at the Bills Phins TNF game in 2014 and I was in sports rage after that loser of a game to the point I wanted Art Briles and Bryce Petty to come in the next year lol. fun times
