Week 10, Bills v. Colts, PREDICT THE SCORE!
corta765 replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills 23 Colts 17 The Colts defense allows a lot of yards but isn't bad in the red zone and Buffalo I feel is probably out too many WRs to really push it the way they want so it becomes a ground game like the Jets. I think the Colts get an early 3-0 lead but the Bills head into the half up 13-3 courtesy of an Allen rushing TD. The Bills get a FG after getting the ball out of half as the drive stalls in the redzone and the Colts get a TD as Taylor runs a 16 yarder in to tighten the game quickly to 16-10. Both teams trade possessions before Allen and the offense convert a drive on 3rd and 10 to a Kincaid 35 yard TD. The Colts answer quickly and get it to within 6 with 3 mins left but the Bills run out the clock. Allen 224 yds 20-28 1 TD 36 yds rush Cook 103 yds 14 carries Kincaid 6 rec 89 yds -

AFC EAST Bills North Steelers South Texans West KC WC Ravens, Chargers, Broncos NFC East Washington North Lions South Atlanta West Rams WC Minn, Philly, Green Bay AFC Title Bills over KC NFC Title GB over DET (I am sorry Lion fans life isn't fair) SB Bills over GB -
reminds me of the Bills mid 2000s who were far further away but constantly thought they were close
-
The roster itself was decent and owners convince themselves they are ready to win far more then reality

I think this is fascinating question because of the circumstances surrounding each team. It breaks down like this: Saints They will be 77 million over the cap in 2025 before any increase or change is made Carr's contract cannot be touched as the dead cap is 50 mil, it drops to 28 mil in 2026 Carr is a very meh as a QB, but he can be gone in a year and hold fort for a season They have an aging roster, but some pieces do exist like Olave for a rebuild to go with Market pressure is not crazy so patience exists Ownership is more stable then Cleveland and it seems like maybe they are ready to take their medicine with a bad cap and team in 2025 Browns They will be 43 mil over the cap in 2025 before any increase or change is made Watson's contract is untouchable in 2025 as it would be a dead cap of 172 million lol. They could maybe try in 2026 but the cap hit is still 99 mil which they can massage out over two years but still a lot. Watson is basically the worst QB in football before you even get into the issues off the field. Yet your on the hook $ wise for 2 years minimum The roster is pretty good though and the current head coach is a pretty good one The market is a tough and they know they are wasting a good roster Ownership is bottom 3 in the league and very untrusting My Pick: I think the Browns are a far harder fix because of Watson's contract and the fact the roster will basically age out by the time the cap opens. Outside of lucking into a QB in the draft your basically stuck at the most important spot. Even though they can open some cap space to fix some holes on offense it is tough sledding to reshape the roster too much without a full on rebuild. By comparison the Saints can basically take one very bad cap year and team and then hit the ground running in 2026 with a new QB and space to start improving the roster both draft and FA wise.

Maye is a far more talented QB physically in a league which mobile passers is becoming the greatest desired thing a QB can do. Not saying he is their solution at all, but in terms of being a threat the attributes Maye has and what I have seen are far more real and scary IF he were to develop then anything Jones ever showed. Yep. But even so they are still a year away from being a real threat in division just given the time it takes for QBs to develop and the amount of talent they need to restock. I can see them as a wild card team next year if all goes well, but division is 26' or later IF it all goes well.
-
Same with Joe Brady. I laugh when people bring up Brady to the Saints when after Johnson he is probably the top head coach candidate and would pick a dumpster fire like them. Their may be only 32 spots but picking a location with stability from owner to gm matters as much if not more then the roster.
-
The issue with Tua is last year everything fell perfect between health, division, and offense... and they still blew it. Their depth is less now, the offense will have decisions to make on aging pieces like Hill who is one of a kind and once he is gone changes is it, and the coach while a good offensive mind regularly fails in adjustments. Sure maybe in the next 5 years everything falls perfect again for Tua and his play/health hold, but I just do not see it like you said.
-
Realistically when a team has a true franchise QB like Allen or Mahomes or Lamar (when healthy they never lose division) the only antidote is a franchise QB AND then you need a competent coach/gm program. The Jets had their two year blip with an insane defense and offense that could ground and pound, but they still didn't win the division and Brady reigned supreme and that was really the only threat NE ever had. For the AFC East I rank it like this: 1. New England - Most stable ownership of this group with a rookie QB who watching has some wheels and can make plays in the sandbox which you need in todays NFL. They need a lot of depth, but ownership will spend money and I think stay relatively hands off so if Maye becomes something they will build through the draft correctly. IF Maye develops, IF they have a good draft, and IF they can find some solid FA additions the next two years I can see 2026 they arrive as a true challenger 2. Miami - Listen Tua is a good QB and you saw last year when he is on they are really close.... but they still couldn't win the division. Now his contract is real, the lack of depth is real, Hill is going to age which lowers their best weapons potential and the owner is nuts where he will fire his coach in a year or two. It wouldn't stun me if everything fell right and they won a division crown in the next 3 years, BUT I felt like last year was their best chance soooo. 3. New York - They were building a nice young core then they rushed to win by signing Rodgers when Carr would've provided the exact same play, fired the coach who had their defense top 3, the owner is nuts as always, etc... Honestly they feel closer to bottoming out again then competing for the AFC East. They could luck into a token playoff spot but nothing about this team is scary anymore compared to two years ago where the young core felt like a potential real problem. They also won't draft a QB this offseason so your looking at Rodgers for another year or two which is as exciting as grilled cheese.

Cover 1- Why And How Miami Gashed The Bills In The Run Game

A buddy of mine made a good point that the only time the Bills beat Henry was when we got up on them so much early running wasn't an option. He really is an incredible RB -

Yep. It is why games are so circumstantial with how they go. When teams have to go off script it creates opportunity for the opposition even more. For as good as the Ravens have been if you can get up on them to force them to not run as much it is a major help. That to me is the real key to beating Baltimore as their defense is not very good this year. Once they get going with a lead they can bludgeon you rushing all day. -

Bills 27 Aquatic Mammals 22 I understand the spot Miami is in but realistically they have been playing for their season for weeks and it still hasn't mattered. The last 9 games with Tua as QB the offense is averaging less then 20 ppg, they are not the high end unit that people believe although they can be good at times. Regardless I think Miami starts out early with a 7-0 thanks to Hill breaking loose on a 40 yard TD but the Bills enter half time up 14-13 thanks to Allen hitting Cooper deep on TD and Cook taking a screen in. Out of half Buffalo gets the ball and gets a FG thanks to a Brown holding call that negates a TD. Miami gets a FG to answer as the d line hold as they get to the Bills 22 and a Von sack ends their TD hopes to make it 17-16 right before the 4th quarter. Buffalo goes on a nice 7 min drive with Knox scoring a TD from a 2 yard out route to put the Bills up 27-16 with 9 mins to go. Tua gets sack fumbled and the Bills tack on a FG, but Miami does get a TD on their next drive to tighten the gap with 2:30 left but fail to get the two points conversion. Buffalo gets the ball back and Miami is unable to stop them running out the clock. Allen 301 yds 26-33 3 TDs 20 yards rush Cook 51 yards 8 atts Cooper 121 yards 5 rec 1 TD -
Crazy enough it just might work!

My point is more talent wise they can hit that which means their a bluechip caliber player. Benford especially has been a top 3 CB this year.
-
The greatest irony of the 2022 class is Elam not really making it as they literally drafted 4 impact starters and two of which Benford/Bernard are all pro level and Shakir might not be far off either.

Have Bills ever won a game on a Hail Mary?
corta765 replied to pennstate10's topic in The Stadium Wall
The top two games which the entire city of Buffalo has said they attended are the Comeback and Snowbowl. I always laugh with the Snowbowl as I was there front row with pics to prove it and at max there was 58k there (still impressive given the weather) yet I have met so many people who apparently attended. This game might be entering the third slot for people in attendance but are probably lying/confused hah. -

Wildest thing of the black out rules was the fact they didn't end until 2011. The NFL for how aggressive and good they are with marketing took until only 13 years ago to realize blacking out games is bad haha -
After yesterdays win this is the last take I was expecting to read and my only advice is watch the Jets/Pats game if you want to see what life is like without 17 in the future and you cannot just appreciate good football

Week 8, Bills v. Seahawks, PREDICT THE SCORE!
corta765 replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have had a hard time picking this game; Seattle is a really tough place to play, their offense can hum when it wants, the Bills offense is still vibing up, and in general while I think the Bills are a better team Seattle has a very well rounded roster. Three things having me picking the Bills: 1. Weather will make throwing the ball tough & while Seattle is tops for passing they are near dead last rushing which helps Buffalo. 2. Seattle is near top 10 in turning the ball over, Buffalo is the best at not turning it over. 3. Jerome Baker being traded there. This is a classic weird fact type situation where the Bills beat a player back to back weeks which is incredibly rare Bills 26 Flock of Seahawks 21 Bills get an early 10-7 lead courtesy of Shakir getting a nice 20 yard TD on the opening drive and a fumble by Geno that allows the Bills quick FG before the Hawks get TD in the air. 2nd quarter the Bills have a nice 6 minute drive capped by Allen rushing a TD in at the goal line which Bass then misses the XP due to slippery conditions, but the Hawks are able to get a TD before half on the ground to make it 16-14 Bills. The Seahawks drive out of half but Douglas baits Geno on a throw at the Bills 15 for an INT. The Bills run down the field before Allen gets a TD throw on a play action as Coleman gets the TD and the Bills go up 23-14. The Hawks answer early 4th quarter as Geno gets Lockett on a 35 yard bomb to make it 23-21 Bills with 9 minutes to go. The Bills drive and run a lot of clock but penalties ruin at TD drive and Bass makes a 44 yarder to make it 26-21 with 3:30 left. As usual the defense scares the hell out of the Bills faithful as the Hawks get to the Bills 29 before failing on downs. Allen 245 yds 21-29 2 TDs 63 yards rush 1 TD Cook 73 yds 12 atts Shakir 94 yds 6 rec 1 TD Douglas 1 INT 3 PD -
He was Krafts hand picked guy I would be stunned. Like the Cowboys the owner think he is the reason for the 6 SBs not 12 or the HOF coach who got more out of rosters then the other 31 coaches.

No not in the least. The move they made for Cooper truthfully is what they should have done in the offseason, they just benefited now from a cheaper price tag. The issue with the offense was always what you saw in the BAL/HOU game being what happens when the team has to go off script and/or you don't have Shakir who at the time was their best weapon to beat coverage. Henry is a superb player and Samuel certainly is giving buyers remorse at this point as I do not think anyone saw it going this bad. But I felt the way now as I did the moment Diggs especially left which was you need a true WR1 who can move the rest of the WR Corp down to their proper position. Shakir is your stud at Slot, Coleman can move around but is a rookie so he needs to be a WR3/4 to see his best play given his age and need to grow, Mack will be at his best when he is a WR4 in a very defined role. The entire WR corp was off because of the roles they were in with how the roster was. Samuel even at his best is WR2 not a WR1 so the issue was always present, but his regression and then the issues when your off gameplan or hurt just magnified greater. This no longer is an issue as Cooper is legit even if he is 80% the guy he was 4 years ago, the load is lightened across the board. The greatest benefactor now is Coleman who you will see more games like Sunday with less pressure and coverage on him. I really like that Shakir/Kincaid/Coleman now can keep growing with less pressure which will only help them more as the season progresses. I have said many times the best version of this team and offense specifically will come out the last 6-7 games, Colemans addition will help this in spades. If there is a position now I would add where you could take Samuel cap and make it go away it is DE/DL or SAF. DE/DL you can never ever have enough and the proof to beat great QBs is forever shown with 3-4 d line man rushing that do not require a blitz but destroy the QB aka 07 Giants blueprint. I like our DT/DE group, but I would add 30 more elite pass rushers if I could, you never have enough. SAF is more a luxury stability thing at this point as they are fine, but a true difference maker would be really nice.

the Daboll/Schoen regime - on the brink, it seems
corta765 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes BUT if they were going to keep Jones they should've kept Barkley who was a big reason for Jones best year.
