A Few Thoughts about the Jets Game, in no particular order
corta765 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Passing wise I am not worried at this time. The games that really mattered down the stretch TB/NE Josh was lights out. I think ATL/NYJ was basically survive and move on regardless of how pretty it was. I will say Davis had some drops that were curious and as I posted somewhere else I think the heavier pressure mixed with the o-lines failing and more exotic pass coverages has Josh either hesitating a touch more OR going to quick. If last year Josh was a Ferrari gliding through the mountians, this year at times he has been an expensive pick up truck. Not as pretty but gets the job done. -
most underrated move by Beane during his time here

How about Cole Beasley? At the time NE was also interested and still had Brady too. He really helped Josh year as being an incredibly reliable target that made a ton of big catches and virtually never dropped anything. Following year (2020) they were an unstoppable connection that was praised as much. Additionally if he goes to NE maybe he is the piece that keeps Brady there as he has a solid target again. -
So...what does the hoodie have up his sleeve?

So the amount of tickets available is more secondary market and its people who thought they could profit off selling extra tickets. I have two buddies who besides their seats bought two extra tickets for the playoffs with the idea of making money. Well the market is over saturated at this point as a night game in the brutal cold against the Pats isn't as appealing as they thought. I don't doubt come came time itll be rocking and sold out but the profiteer's guessed poorly on this one.

Sometimes a team is most dangerous when they really are playing with nothing to lose. Like you said in a one game win and move on situation what do the Steelers have to lose.
-
100%. Pittsburgh is bad mouthed because of Big Ben but they have a very good RB and decent skill position players with a superb defense and solid coaching. People forget playoffs are all about just that week and surviving. KC didn't finish as hot as mid season and I can easily see if PIT gets an early lead they turn this into a ball control clock game to limit possessions. Also teams reallyyyyy don't like being embarrassed and they can exact some revenge for a few weeks ago. Finally I feel like every post season there is a game or two where people write off a team and then are surprised. There are no gimmees in the post season especially, I am sure Tomlin has the Steelers jacked up after a week of people saying "this week is a bye week for KC"

OOOO you reported me!

That is just my guess, but in general this season Josh at points hasn't trusted the line enough and the line has given ample reason as to why not to so I think he has been slightly faster with the trigger. I would also add the coverages have been more elaborate to try and slow the Bills as opposed to last years which he seemingly picked apart.
-
Fans like you are pathetic and insecure. Virtually every team out there is always trying to find ways to get the next advantage possible and will cross the line until their slapped. The big reason the Pats beat the Bills routinely is because of the guy at QB and the talent BB maximized with his system while Buffalo was a doormat of awfulness. If Buffalo had a QB like Allen and coach like McD earlier the scorecard isn't as lopsided. Also take a look at the last two years of games and you'll see Pat fans are now complaining that we get away with stuff.
-
So my guess is Josh is going a split set faster then his WR's in the decision made instead of waiting a touch more to make sure they cut a certain direction. My personnel feeling is the increase in pass rush he has felt this year has made him less patient compared to last year where it felt like he never missed. He has still been superb as a whole this year, but there are more mistakes.

Randolph Scott! -
To me Beasley has two issues with the first being a bigger deal then the second: 1. Injury. He hurt his knee pretty good last year vs NE at the end. Knee injuries are no joke and the style of route runner he is that impacts thing greatly. Just because he is/was cleared to play this year does not mean the knee is 100% or not impacting him. Part of the plays where it looks like he holds up or runs out to me is injury related where he is avoiding contact because it is fully right. Mix in him being 32 now and I really think there is more to this then we truly know at this point. 2. Mental. The whole COVID thing created a target on him by a lot of outsiders and there is no way it hasn't impacted him. He even said he thought he was booed in the Texans game. Add in the offense hasn't been as crisp, other guys are getting more targets like Knox who has emerged as a bigger threat, and the fact he is looking like a possible cap casualty, I am sure his mind isn't 100%, no ones would be. I really think if physically he was doing better the second piece would be less of an issue

THE ORIGINAL!

I remember my dad put the TV outside which back in the days of super heavy TV's and no streaming was not a small thing to watch the game. Next morning he told me the Bills won but literally almost blew it again. I watched the 1st quarter with him and you could see it was raucous there.
-
Oh I don't disagree with that at all and you are right virtually everyone said it was great move. The problem was more after it failed he refused to ever go that route again until wayyyyy too late. Also he was cheap paying coaches for a long time. Read the piece on Johnson that was done I believe in the players tribune or by tim graham. Changed my outlook on him alot, he actually knew Flutie was the favored guy and would've preferred the team just let him leave. Also his shoulder got badly messed up that forever destroyed his ability to throw the same. I was always team Flutie, but after reading the article I came around to at least respect Johnson far more and think he's a decent dude.

Sadly Ralph's greatest flaw was his inability at points to step back and let others do their job. Especially at the end the game itself had passed him by, business wise I think he actually still had a good pulse for that. The Raiders had the same problem with Al as the sport itself had changed and he was trying to do what worked in the past.

flashback 2018 espn draft coverage of Josh pick
corta765 replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wish someone video'd my reaction as I nearly lost it when they picked Josh ( I wanted Rosen). Would've been a good laugh now I really believe if he was drafted anywhere else not NYJ he probably is a serviceable starter. He got the crap beat in and you can see it now where he is unsure of making a throw because of protection and past "ghosts'. Not saying he is a star but the Jets did everything wrong for Sam. The Browns at least tried to do the same as the Bills: -Give QB a solid line -Give him good WRs -Coaching that tries to utilize the QB's best talents -Defense that is solid enough to shoulder the load as the QB grows The Jets just tried to rush to be a contender year 2 which mixed with Gase was a disaster. I still couldn't believe they didn't try to sign Morse or Paradis to help Sam. -
You could make a sizeable case that the draft failings in 2000 & 2002 (2001 actually was good) really damaged the talent base for the Bills which set in motion much of what occurred after as veteran talent left. To me the true base of the drought is 2000-2003 between some bad drafts, Donohoe, poor draft mgmt/capital pick wise, QB mis-mgmt with Bledsoe and Losman, and overall lack of culture that developed. So many decisions happen so fast without a plan and a lot of going back and forth on direction that eroded any real true talent base from developing. It is kinda remarkable the fact they still did draft some impact players like Schobel, Clements, McGhee, etc.. despite how much they flubbed. From 2000-2004 they had 3 different coaches alone. In retrospect it was just such a mismatched mess. Somewhere there is an alternate universe where the opposite happened and the Bills drafted Aaron Rodgers haha. With that said I have always believed had the Bills made the playoffs in 2004 the direction of the franchise would've been far different.
-
Haha so going to UB football games he is proudly listed as one of their drafted alumni. I cannot ever remember him suiting up a game for the Bills. Namiean Roosevelt I at least remember making some plays and having some time in the sun
-
I forgot about Bruce, Andre, & Thurman all got released. I wonder having their vet presence if that would've allowed the team to stabilize itself at the back end.
-
So the 2000 Bills I was 11 years old for at the time and while I did go to a game and watch them I honestly do not know how fans viewed the season other then the QB controversy. They got out to 7-4 only to fall to 8-8 and miss the playoffs entirely. Was the season viewed as wasted potential given the defense or with the QB controversy and special teams issues did that cause too much damage to move forward? Genuinely curious for those who were older and remember more of it

A Few Thoughts about the Falcons Game, in no particular order
corta765 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Virgil if you do step away I would just say your impact on many of us who do write post game has been tremendous. I do not write every week, rather when I feel I have some things I would like to say that may contribute to a strong discussion or many times after a big win/loss. When I have posted my thoughts I more or less model them after how you have from the format to how concise you make your points so it is an easy read. Many others do the same and you should give yourself a huge pat on the back for that alone. I completely get the burnout feeling writing after a while when it goes from fun to seemingly work. I use to write for a Sabres website and I got the same way after a while. At least with the Bills being good the last bunch of years it has been vastly easier and more interesting to write and discuss.
