  1. It was reported that was their target more then Rosen. If you read a lot of mocks from reputable people they had Zona ahead of us for Allen.
  2. This is a pretty poor take. Regardless of the fact that I disagree with Allen as the choice the team needed a QB badly and Beane is 1000% right when he said as a GM your responsibility is trying to find a long term guy. He did that and created the capital throughout the season to move up to do so. Guess what if Allen works out the holes at WR and OL really won't matter funny how that happens when you have a QB. They moved up and then got a starting LB which was the second biggest need the team has. They still have a 3rd, 4th, two 5ths, 6th, and a 7th which is plenty to work with. They didn't touch their 2019 draft picks so they have a full draft there also. There is a saying quality of quantity. Sure the Bills could've kept their picks and possibly lucked into a starting LB or OL. Instead they moved for a guy they wanted who is universally acclaimed to be a starting LB out of college. Yes perhaps the LB from Iowa works out but if they like a guy I'd rather they go for it (including Allen) then settle like we have with JP, McCargo, etc... If the draft falls something like this are you really that mad because they didn't add one extra OL or DL: 1. Allen 1. Edmunds 3. WR 4. OL 5. OL 5. DL 6. CB 7. BPA The Bills still are one heavy with draft picks at this point from the normal 8. Truthfully you seem to making a mound out of a mole hill.
  3. Your not less of a fan for disagreeing with a QB that is universally riskier despite his upside than Rosen who was also on the board. A lot of very smart football minds are not bullish on his prospects and his accuracy is a real concern especially given the lack of talent he faced and how he flat lined against power 5 teams. I have seen the Bills acquire Rob Johnson JP Losman & EJ Manuel all QBs who had the bodies of gods and couldn't throw a medium accurate throw to save their life. I hate the pick and think that it is an incredibly risky move compared to Rosen. That said he will have his chance, of course I hope he succeeds, but truthfully I will be waiting of him to fail at this point because the odds are not in his favor. Additionally the kid needs time to sit and learn so we basically surrendered this season before it began given we have no true starter until Allen takes his shot at the QB spot. As a fan its really really discouraging because if they wanted Allen I would've rather kept Tyrod who could've kept the team somewhat competitive until Allen was ready. Instead the season already smells of 5-11 where they waste Shady and a defense that actually looks decent because the QB position is a work in progress. Why exactly as a fan should I spend money when that the optics you gave me? Sorry if you can't handle that a lot of people just don't like the pick and a team that for two decades has made god awful decisions left and right just made another questionable scary one. Doesn't make us less then fans just a very different real perspective.
  4. It is certainly up there I wouldn't even know how to rank them though. You get this right and you have a franchise QB to go with an aging but good-great Shady, defense that has some real talent despite holes, and front office/coach that looks like they know what their actually doing. That is how you get a decade plus run of success started.
  5. Problem is McNair is blueblood owner in the NFL circles despite is strong and divisive POV on subjects. Panthers will be sold so they will at least be able to start distancing themselves soon. And I agree T Pegs may be aloof but I don't doubt he tries for best intentions and seems like a decent enough dude.
  6. Never thought of playoff issues yea that really would be complete BS for road teams.
  7. The NFL would have to adjust their schedule some for the West coast but truthfully I am not sure how much they really care with rest. A lot of teams play after London anyway and I think they would make it a forced adjustment. The other thing is I am pretty sure if a team was added or moved they will be in an AFC South or NFC South type division to cut travel across the US.
  8. If you read Peter Kings MMQB he has hinted the NFL has seriously considered expanding or adding there. The market is insanely rich with potential and fans already and I believe he said within ten years he thinks a team will be there. The biggest issue is travel and training and they have talked that for away games they would possibly setup a quasi home base in the US on the east coast to train at so they didn't have to keep going back and forth. The other issue is money for players because of the taxes in the UK and that would put them at a bit of a disadvantage.
  9. Im fine with this.
  10. They need to go back to the drawing board or just go every year with One Team One Goal. Although at least were not "Fully Pregnant" anymore
  11. I think SOME of the criticism directed to GMs is warranted. There still are some old school GMs who like the OP mentioned are more obsessed with hand size or physical traits then things like accuracy, touch passes, timing etc.. You still have GMs who over value positions like RB when they should draft them 2nd-3rd round. But the NFL is not nearly as ingrained in the past compared to a sport like the NHL where the moves GMs make routinely make me want to scream (hockey is my main sport I actually write about it for a Sabres sport). That said the criticism to at least Gettleman to me doesn't seem fair in my eyes. It seems ownership has declared that Eli is the guy for the time being and Gettleman has to listen to that decry. Even so I think he would take Darnold if he came around and people forget that the Panthers success is a direct correlation to moves he made. He guessed correctly that not spending major money on Josh Norman would be correct. I think people need to give him time. Dorsey just took over so I am not sure why people are throwing shade when his moves have been especially limited. Gil Brandt I at times disagree with but overall his track record is superb and he is a legend so I give him the benefit of the doubt. He says far less stupid things then Polian who the world seems to have pass in general.
  12. I don't think trading a 2nd and a 3rd to move up somewhere around 5-7 in the 1st is breaking the bank. You still end up with two 1sts, a 2nd, and 3rd plus the rest of of your draft. This team really needs to take a shot at a QB and even after doing that you can at least hopefully plug two holes. Every team has holes every season just some years they are smaller then others you can't let your entire draft strategy change because of two retirements. In my belief they are betting with Groy, Bodine, Dawkins, Ducasse/Miller they have enough to draft lineman later on plus offseason cuts to be OK up front. It won't be the strength we've seen the last bunch of years but it won't be a tire fire. That is what I think the Bills see, your strategy isn't wrong either just different way to address needs. Thanks. I think they need to draft IF possible (assuming they have the pick) Evans or LVE at 22. I personally prefer LVE because his potential seems to just be opening, but Evans may be a better day 1 starter. Malik Jefferson from Texas is also intriguing but not to the level of those two.
  13. Honestly I can't truly judge the schedule right now until at minimum after the draft preferably the week of training camp. I want to see what QB they draft and what holes are filled or not filled. Obviously I am not saying they will beat GB its a hard game in any circumstance (unless Rodgers is out not that I wish that on him either), but how I feel about the first two games especially is so based off what ends up happening here. I will say this Bills coaching staff managed to get the team up for games against good teams like KC and ATL which are both tougher places to win and they did. MIN & GB are both tough, but I would of course take the Pack at 3-0 because I do believe it would be a trap game.
  14. Like everyone else I am ready for the draft and wish it was here yesterday. After the long process we have went through here are some modest predictions of what I think will happen: -Buffalo will trade up but they will keep their 22nd overall pick. From what I have read the 2nd and 3rd rounds have a ton of potential and teams value those picks more at this point then lower 1st round picks. -Buffalo will end up somewhere between 5-7 and draft either Rosen or Allen. The smokescreens for both QBs makes it hard for me to pick one I would say Allen slightly more. I think the Bills really want Darnold but that isn't happening. -At 22 the Bills will draft a LB like Van Esche or Rashaad Evans. The D line and secondary need some depth but have some good to strong starters, if they can get a true blueblood in the middle at LB I think the defense can be potentially Top 10 worth and I also think McBeane knows this. I also think Beane knows they really need to find a starter at LB more then any other hole after QB and his 2nd 1st offers his best chance at filling it. -I think in the 2nd round the Bills will draft a WR like Anthony Miller or James Washington. -The rest of the draft will be devoted basically to OL, DL, & LB to hopefully find some good depth off the bench
  15. Gotta move fast man
  16. Its hard because he had a breakout year in 2016 and this year I really thought he would continue growing and instead regressed. But I have to wonder how much of that was due to such a blah basic offensive scheme and they did make the playoffs. Personally I think he is the real deal and will keep proving so but I also think this is a really big season and he needs to rebound back to his previous numbers and developmental track.
  17. No the team would've went from all time great to really good because they have a great QB. If you honestly don't think Kelly was that good and it was his team then why is he in the HOF? You don't make it there without having the goods yourself.
  18. Before I right my dissertation in disagreement this is still a very strong post and I like the points you made. OK with that a lot of people in disagreement post about how building a team and filling holes is the wiser move and "if we can just catch lighting in a bottle at QB". Thing is we have tried this strategy for two decades now minus JP/EJ and its given us one playoff appearance (credit to this staff) AND.... nothing else. We wasted a pretty good defensive core from 2013-15 because we didn't have a QB. Sure if you want to gamble that you really think you can assemble a defense as talented as the 85 Bears, 2000 Raves, 2002 Bucs, or 2013 Seahawks be my guest but here are the straight up odds: -Drafting a QB top 10 you have about a 50-60% chance of that player developing into a true franchise guy. AFTER the top 10 the odds start falling into the 30% range for the 1st round, 15-20% 2nd round, and then really dive after that into minuscule percentages. If you are opening 7 doors looking for a prize aren't you gonna want at least every few years the best odds possible for that prize so you stop looking. -The Bills have drafted more running backs in the 1st round since 2000 then QBs. Repeat the single most important position on the field we have addressed less then running backs. -Your a 100% correct those who use Tom Brady that he was a 6th round pick. Please list the next great 6th round pick at QB and if potentially the GOAT at QB was a 6th round pick what are the odds it happens again -Since 1970 the Bills have drafted no QBs top 10 and a total of 3 in the 1st round since the 1980s draft including Jim Kelly. The strategy of draft later for QB we have perfected trading up would actually be the inverse to this. -Today's NFL is all about maximizing the QB/passing attack. For better or worse (IMO at times worse) the NFL has changed to being so QB driven that even really good teams typically fall to the top QBs. Blake Bortles actually played pretty decent for the Jags who had a great team in the post-season...and lost because of the QB they faced. -A good QB can hide holes on your offense from O-Line, to RB, WR because he elevates the team. Guys like Rodgers and Brady are so good that average defenses for both of them look better because of the field position their given. -Just because you fail in the 1st round does not mean you will again at QB. The Ravens drafted Kyle Boller in 2003 who flamed out by the end of 2005. That didn't shy them away from taking Joe Flacco a few years later and that worked out pretty well for them with a SB and 6 playoff appearances. -From my understanding the Bills were in dire straits until Kelly arrived. Yes the team had some talent but heading into that season things were really really bleak and he had a savior type role for the franchise in general. Without him they were toast. -Even if you do get some holes filled instead without drafting a QB are you really gonna believe the Bills both short and long term can compete against NE Brady NYJ drafting a QB and MIA who will be drafting one soon. We will basically have passed on a long list of talent for two straight years. That really sucks to just keep staying with the best of the rest scraps. So thats where I am at this point. Like I said I actually really liked your points and if the Bills got Roquan Smith/James Washington for example I would be happy with their additions. My disappointment would more range from again just pushing the QB position off and even trading Tyrod who I would rather have had here then instead.
  19. Sadly I agree with this. Before Murph had has show moved to 12pm and it became completely in house I thought he was far more objective with his opinions. Now it feels like he has a message he is trying to send for the team over his show or a certain topic he is trying to drive home the teams point. I will never forget the day he ridiculed a little kid after the 2016 postseason presser disaster. Was a 100% state radio that day and very annoying. I will say for as much as I loved Donald Jones, Tasker is a far better analysis person for the role.
  20. I would say 26 or Kirby who I always enjoy his perspective. As for best profile picture I mean whose beating my owl?
  21. They basically gambled they could retool, win , AND draft a franchise QB all at once. So far they have won, they've retooled and had decent returns on guy like Poyer Hyde White so far; the key is the franchise QB. Even though I am not an Allen fan, even if he is the one of four they get I think they pulled it off. I wouldn't blame them much for O-Line issues either they couldn't predict Wood or Incognito but I do agree it is another dam whole we have to attack now.
  22. Fundamentally disagree. This group identified this as a QB class that has great upside and was worth building draft capital with the ability to grab one of them. Had the regime that drafted EJ had been as aggressive during the 2011 or 2012 draft years they may have had a better shot at a top QB. Instead they literally drafted a QB who was a 2nd-3rd caliber QB. I watch enough college football and remember the 2013 draft as a whole not being anything special to pull the trigger on and the talent wasn't close to this draft. This year in general has the potential to be one of the better QB draft classes in a long time. The only similar mistake would've been keeping a flawed QB which we had seen his ceiling so we were forced to pull the trigger 2 years too late. Your not mistaken that they could guess wrong and this may implode but you have to take your shots with the best odds you can and they have set themselves for a decent shot.
  23. Without commenting too much on the QB's themselves I always thought the Bills were stuck between a rock and a hard place. I think they wanted to commit to RJ completely as soon as possible to see what they had. BUT he goes down with injury, Flutie comes in and starts winning and not just winning but crazy exciting games that energize the area plus mix in his story and how do you take him out if your the Bills. Additionally from my understanding (I was 10 during this) Flutie really helped re-energize the region for them team and save the team in terms of renovations to the stadium. There was no way he wasn't starting in 1999. The rest from there seemed poetically cruel in an unjust way with Flutie leading the team to 10-5 only to see Johnson have a career day and have the team winning in the playoffs when he leaves the field. Truthfully if they really wanted to see what they had in Johnson they probably should've traded or cut Flutie after 98 but no way that would've ever happened.
  24. I would be very happy with this and nice job as a whole Bandit with this preview very high quality
