Patriots add "stud" WR Kenny Bourne [edited title]
Success replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's pretty shrewd. Fast DB's get way out ahead of the slow guys so they end up wide open underneath. -
Everyone is talking about the Pats now. It would be kind of awesome if they ended up this season like so many other teams who made the biggest splash in FA over the years, and struggled to a middlin' record while missing the playoffs. Probably not likely w/ BB coaching, but one can hope. Looking at all of their moves in totality, the TE position is the only one that I'd call "scary." The rest of the pick-ups are more like marginal improvements (just generally speaking).
-
Yeah, I'm trying. I keep rationalizing that every year there is a team like this (including the Bills in a few of the drought years), and it's almost never a team that ends up being a contender in the regular season. Still, it's been a crazy couple of days for that team. If I was a Pats fan, I'd be pretty stoked.
-
I'm hyperventilating a bit. BB is like the monster in the closet for me. I truly can't wait until he retires.
-
I mean, I knew they had a lot of cap space - but it is unlimited? Does anyone know if they're close to cap now? This is ridiculous. I can't wait until BB retires.

That's fair. I've always said that BB can coach almost any roster in the league to somewhere around .500 at worst. I'll be more worried if they make a move at QB. Their ceiling is only so high w/ Cam, imo. But yeah - the AFCE will be tough next year. -

Scary good is a stretch, imo. They were busy today. They were a bad team last year, and improved. I'd still pick them for 3rd place by the end of the season. -

He's a much better GM in his mind than he is here on earth. Color me not scared. What they did today reminds me too much of when the Bills used to win the offseason and end up in 3rd. -
Can someone explain to me the Pats strategy?

Good points, all. But I refuse to be rational. I'm looking forward to telling my Pats fan friends (and I do have 'em), "hey, you won the offseason!" And if they manage to beat us in the regular season, "Welp...you won your Super Bowl!" I'm gonna get maximum mileage out of this long-overdue role reversal. -

BB has an aura about him because of his greatness as a coach - and there is no doubt about that. I think most of us agree that he's the best ever. But he has never been all that as a GM. Always has his share of head-scratching moves, and his draft record is middlin' at best. He benefitted for years from a GOAT QB taking pay cuts and having a salary below his value, and also from FA's taking pay cuts to play with that GOAT. This reminds me of drought-era Bills, or other teams that "won" the offseason with FA additions but then fizzled in the regular season. None of what they're doing concerns me right now. They still have Cam behind center. -
It reminds me a lot of our drought-era FA periods. And we'd get as excited as Pats fans are on their boards today. But, without a better QB, none of it matters much.
-
I disagree on both counts. Judon is not GREAT. He's a very solid signing, but I'd put him at above average. And I don't see them as loaded. BB always coaches up that D regardless of who is there - but talent-wise, I wouldn't even put them in the top 10. Quite a few guys on the wrong side of 30 in that group.

Looks like John Brown was released
Success replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Smart move. Davis really emerged, and you can't keep everyone. This really helps the cap. Gonna miss Brown, though. Such a fun player to watch when healthy. A great Bill. I'll root for him wherever he goes... -
Did you play football, at any level?

I was on the blue team. -

That made for fun post-football viewing. I'm not usually following the women's draw in the Australian this closely. Great run! I'm curious where she'll be ranked now... -
You had me at banana bread beer.

Defenses led Brady to his last two rings
Success replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've gone through all of the stages with Brady, and arrived at acceptance. It's sort of liberating. 10 Super Bowls. It's an impossible achievement. -

I think they were talking about how she got a new coach fairly recently. Finding the right coach can make a huge difference for a player. -

Pretty cool. That was a big win at a major. The Pegulas must be stoked. -
We gave up a lot for a skill player last year. Now, that skill player changed who we are in a big way - but that doesn't mean you keep repeating the pattern. We have enough on offense. The Bucs just gave us a nice blueprint to work with - shore up the D, and get some playmakers there. Build the lines.

Karen wants an apology from Brady.
Success replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, are we getting wound tight about everything. People should listen to Rodgers: RELAX. -
I had higher hopes for Addison. He wasn't really a factor all year (even though I think he was our leading sacker w/ 5)....
-
Beane has earned 100% trust, imo. After 2 decades, he fairly quickly turned this team into a SB contender - AND he picked the right Josh. Yet we will still get tons of posts on draft day saying he should have picked this guy or that guy, and blew it...
-
I slept on it. I really want this to happen. Star coming back, an early round draft pick, Watt, along w/ Oliver in his 3rd year - things could look a lot different for the Bills at the front of the defense with just a few moves. He's turning 32 in March. That's still 2-3 really good years, imo. I never really buy into "injury prone," either - it seems like bad luck a lot of the time (though there are exceptions). Would love to see the headline that we got him.
