  1. Sending a message w/ a hit is an every-game occurrence. Multiple times in most games. If players have a chance to tee up a hit, they usually take it - though most do it "cleanly." And fans generally love it when a player lays a really strong hit against an opponent. "As long as no one gets hurt." I just find a lot of hypocrisy on this issue.
  2. I disagreed w/ this - MAYBE it's true that he had intent to injure. I don't think it's obvious, or clear. These plays happen so fast - guys are flying around and many of them play at a very high speed. I just don't think the mind works that quickly for a thought like that, for intent on something like that.
  3. Piledriving someone is pre-meditated, with intent to hurt. The comparison ends there.
  4. I compare it to what someone like Gronk (now America's cute, lovable frat brother) did to Tre. That was as dirty as dirt gets - premeditated, retaliatory, intentional. This was a guy who made a very poor split-second decision - but it WAS split-second.
  5. I agree w/ this. I think we always underestimate how fast this game is. And until recently, big hits were prominently celebrated, most notably on the "jacked up!" segment prior to MNF. There is an appropriate reaction to what happened, but I think the overall reaction has veered into hypocrisy. It's a tough, fast game - I don't think he set out to hurt Lawrence. There are players who DO play the game dirty, but one bang-bang kind of play doesn't define a guy.
  6. First, I hated to see Lawrence hurt like that, as I'm sure everyone did, and hope for a full & fast recovery. When the hit 1st happened, my reaction was the same as everyone else. Dirty. Unnecessary. I was kind of angry. But then the entire NFL community goes into self-righteous mode about a play in a game that is inherently violent. We all watch replays countless times in slo-mo, and think that players who are playing the game at a high speed can adjust on a dime. And there is also the consideration that some QB's try to game the rules around sliding a bit, and trick defenses. That slide yesterday did appear to be one that was started late, after or simultaneous to the defender positioning for the hit. Obviously, the NFL has to protect QB's. The hit WAS unnecessary - but I think the reaction against the player has been over the top. If a player has a pattern of illegal hits & dirty play, that's a different story. I just hate how this stuff gets so black & white, and people turn into villains instantly.
  7. Feel bad for the Niners. I don't dislike them at all as an organization, and they have had a tough, tough time w/ injuries this year - and only added to that last night. We've been there, and it's just no fun.
  8. Man, couldn't the Raiders have just kicked the FG instead of running one more play?
  9. Only downside is the easy schedule. Not counting chickens (well, maybe a little), but some of the remaining games might be over by halftime, which will likely have a big impact on overall stats.
  10. I don't think this is a homer statement: Allen may be the best pure football player of all time.
  11. Greed is really a thing.
  12. Hollins has been such a reliable target this year. Great pick-up.
  13. I think we run the table to close the season. Another strong December.
  14. This is a really good Bills team. As good as anyone this year.
  15. What was really impressive on that play is how quickly guys on offense understood what was going on & fanned out to be a great blocking convoy. That was textbook.
  16. This is exactly how this team should play in the snow. Home field should mean something in January.
  17. I watch football on Sundays. All day, no matter how good or bad the games are. And yes, I'm still married.
  18. I see a lot of fanbases wishing they had him now. He has been better than people expected.
  19. I thought we played a good game against them, and it still came down to a few plays. So, there's that. They're not formidable or fearsome this year - but with Reid, Spags and Mahomes, they likely won't be an easy out for any team, regardless of how they've looked.
  20. Feels like we'll have to beat the Lions, and just in general run the table. I can see KC losing 1 more. The way their season is going, losing 2 would be a tall order.
  21. I thought it would be ages before another team was hated as much as the Patriots. The Chiefs have officially surpassed them, imo. This season sealed the deal. Kudos to them for winning a bunch of games they probably should have lost - but it really stokes the disdain.
  22. Doesn't happen. Instead, kickers make 60-yarders in driving rain in those circumstances. It truly makes me wonder.
  23. I've watched football a long time. When I stack up the times I've felt sick to my stomach vs. the times I've felt jubilant - it really makes me wonder if I'm using my time wisely.
  24. I still don't know what happened. I didn't have the sound on - wasn't the play blown dead?
