haha yeah playing the internet psychologist and even Trying to make sense of this seems futile. Mental illness is a pervasive issue in our society with what we have had to deal with during covid. Having said that if only there was a crystal ball to tell us who we should be fearful of and who is a responsible person wishing to own a firearm that would be the ticket eh? But almost impossible to do. But I think we MUST try. At the same time I don't see these attacks, school shootings, shootings in places of worship as being 100% preventable either. Stopping even ONE attempt at a terrorist act like what occurred in Buffalo makes the attempt and dialogue even more crucial to at least TRY though. Hate pervasive enough to instigate something like this, how to identify it? The poway shooter Im most familiar with having lived so close to it you would have never suspected. At least on the surface his family seemed "Normal" ...as did he the shooter himself. TOO Normal which makes the prospect of stopping another person like him even harder.

Because Gun Culture is too ingrained in America and even politically moderate gun owners would rebel and there might well be a civil war. Which would be worse than what we have now. Its expected but I dont buy it...not one bit. I thnk its histrionic and alarmist rhetoric meant to scare gun owners IN AMERICA

I've read this and the off the wall thread and this is an observation and reply to @extrahammer who stated this I think people actually DO care an want to see these attacks stop but the gun lobbies are so strong and pushback from them make any changes in laws very difficult. The part I bolded I agree with. I read this clutching their pearls errrr Guns "but they want to take ALL our guns if we give even an inch" "if we give an inch they will take a mile. This is the part that frustrates me so. Because I don't buy it. To me this is a rote reply to ANY talk of change that stonewalls any meaningful discourse /change between he opposing sides. This discussion could easily sway into bitterness and anger because we are all I think FRUSTRATED that any community should have to deal with something like this. But when it hits close to home it seems even more present, more painful for we as individuals. The debate over guns and how to prevent such a problem like this seems to go nowhere. As others have stated because its the person who has the available gun to use which is the instrument of carnage, but the person is the holder of the gun and puller of the trigger ultimately responsible. Its such a circular premise it goes round and round and round. Its no wonder we feel hopeless. Honestly right now I think a solution will need to somehow address both sides of the issue. Aka the availibility for a person who threatened a high school to be able to get a gun> WTAF?? I wonder if our society isnt too far gone. Guns aren't going anywhere, hate isnt going anywhere, and Evil wins right? ***** THAT. I won't accept that. All I can do I guess as a person is live and demonstrate as much love as I possibly can, live by the golden rule, and thirdly the most sad but for me is true, accept that leaving your home puts you in risk and BE READY and Know where you are going after you die having faith in a Higher Power. yeah unfortunately I have knowledge of that Aussie creep because his manifesto swayed a young man here to go into a synagogue less than 5 miles from my house to shoot and kill only 1 person (because his magazine jammed thank goodness or it could have been more). It really is a shame that the internet makes things like this last forever. That manifesto has done nothing but wreak destruction I say BURN IT. It goes beyond vitriol speech it advocates murder. It's just wrong. The thought that people buy into this hate makes me sick.

I am no expert but think these shooters somehow develop some sort of maniacal ideology "indoctrinated" by radical websites and they do these things to just vent their hate and viciousness onto innocent victims to further magnify their cause through subsequent media coverage? . Exacerbated mental illness....maybe maybe not I dunno. I wish we could know so we could somehow help prevent this kind if incident from occurring Somehow. The Only good that will come from it IMO is Buffalo city will NOT be torn apart quite the opposite they will UNITE as a community like no other.

as a horrific sidenote The Poway synagogue shooter was influenced by that same NZ individual. Poway shooter was a very young man too, came from a very nice family, dad a beloved local high school teacher...radicalism turned violent and for what? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
