Completely agree, I had the exact same grade on them coming out with similar pros and cons. Hopefully Allen can make a similar jump in year two. Mahommes also has the most talented offensive team around him in the NFL and Josh has the least talented team.

I really don’t believe strength of competition matters for passing QBs. Their skill players are playing similar skill players on the other side. You don’t have to go to a big name program in the SEC or ACC to become a good QB. A lot of the starting QBs come from smaller programs. Obviously you didn’t watch Allen carry that team in college. He won so many games for that program, he was a great college QB. His team was vastly inferior to the defences he played every week, just like his team in the NFL. Just wait until we put some pieces around this kid.

Thats not true, lots of teams have put a spy on Allen. They played a lot of cover zero and our WRs couldn’t separate or make a contested catch. There is not much a QB can do if guys can’t make plays in cover 0. Thats fine, I think he might be better than Kelly. I also think his WRs should have brought in 5-10 of those passes. He can’t throw it and catch it unfortunately. I also don’t think there is a QB in the NFL that would have a successful season with this unit. Bottom line is Allen has showed a lot of franchise QB flashes as a rookie. Year 2 will be the year where we know for sure that we have one. This is the reality.

I don't believe in the 3 year plan happening in '19

To be honest, even the top teams have 4 holes on their roster. It’s pretty rare to have a good player at every position. If they add 2 OL (FA), another starting FA, and 3 starters in the draft this team will be very good. They can add three legit starters and some depth in free agency. Let say they add a starting LB in free agency along with a starting guard and a starting center. They grab an WR1 like Metcalf in round 1. They still need a TE, a WR2, a LT, and a G on offence. We could use another DL and CB but that would be a luxury pick, we are solid there. We need to hit on round 2 and round 3 (which this staff is capable of). Then you fill the other 4 needs with lower level free agents. If we hit on the top three picks this is a playoff team next year. Hard to do but not impossible. -
Bills offensive talent trade value.

I know they have some good olineman. The probably have some guys worth a second round pick there. He’s still worth a top ten pick. -
Not a short yardage check down offence. But when all the defenders drop back into deeper coverage he has to make them pay and hit the RB in the flat to keep them honest.

That is definitely something he needs to work on in the offseason. If the defence is giving you short passes and you don’t take them you will have a short career in this league. Probably the number 1 thing Allen needs to develop in order to become a franchise QB. You have to have patience and know when to take your shots in this league.

Anyone else annoyed by play calling? Or lack there of?
billspro replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get frustrated with the play calling at times. I think Daboll is a decent OC, he does manufacture some offence. I think the real issue is there is just no talent other than Allen. They are playing as well as they can with this group IMO. -
Cut McCoy, Sign Bell (edited from McCoy out 6.4M cap)

It’s crazy that 5 yards feels like an amazing run. I get so used to watching runs for 2 yards or less. I would be shocked if we had more than 5 explosive runs all year, I think Shady had a couple and McKenzie had one. Love had a worse year this year but I think he is legit. He is small so we might be able to draft him in the third. -

I would be happy with Coleman and a third round rookie. -

This is the worst running game I have seen since I became a Bills fan. I can’t even remember the last time a RB ran for more than 6 yards for a first down. That should happen multiple times per game. The running game has put so much pressure on Allen. I would like a vet and a rookie brought in next year along with a new oline. We have so many needs on offence, hopefully Beane has some magic in him. -
Also would have had 100 more yards, 3 more TDs, and a W. Unfortunately, we arguably the worst WR core over the last five years.

It’s a completely bias title.

Glad to have a voice of reason on here.

Everyone has a different opinion. I have seen way more progress than I expected when we drafted him. I am optimistic he is the franchise.
-
I thought Zay Jones, Foster, and Thomas could have brought those back shoulder throws in. If we had a guy like Hopkins those are all TDs.

The ints were bad, but you should be able to trust your WR to at least knock those down.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Can't Beat the Pats Yet
billspro replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I liked the Gilmore Foster matchup, I thought that was a good choice. Foster probably should have adjusted and scored there. Thats pretty much what I take away from the game. It would also be nice to give Allen more than 3ypc from a RB at some point. Our running game is horrible without Allen running.
