  1. He is only a difference maker when he’s healthy. A deal for someone like him costs you for 4-5 years. What if the injury trend gets worse? You have a broken down end at 15-20 million who is only healthy a couple games a year? Beane can’t work his magic on a contract like this, there won’t be any outs without severe repercussions in year 2 or 3. Clowney is trending down. There can be injuries to anyone. But to invest top defensive end money to someone this injury prone is not good team building. He will play through but he’s invisible a lot of times cause he’s not playing at full strength. I get everyone being hyped over the philly game. Just don’t see it as a smart investment.
  2. That’s exactly what I was thinking too. The KC guy has an interview or two setup as well. But teams don’t want to wait.
  3. I did look. His best was 21 TFL. He played almost 900 snaps that season. It was his healthiest season. The Texans were also 4-12 with Watson and Watt hurt Shaq had 13 this year and didn’t start. It’s possible to say with an extra 150-200 snaps he could of gotten 20. He played 480 snaps this year. Shaq had like 18 hits on the qb this season clowneys best was 21. So as bad as we knock shaq for being a pass rusher he’s getting to the quarterback more than clowney. Clowney has the edge on forcing fumbles with that insanely fast impact play. Nobody in the league can bust through like that. My point wouldn’t ever be Lawson is a better or more impactful player. The only question I have is the money clowney may be asking for. Shaq can produce at a slightly less level for half the money. He’s also trended up every year and may still get better. Can’t say if he’s peaked yet until next season.
  4. If they traded him it wouldn’t matter. It would basically just be a cheap way to get a earlier comp pick. Nobody is giving more than a 3 or 4 for him when they have to pay him. Which is likely what we’d get if he gets a big deal somewhere else. Depending if they don’t invest much into free agency.
  5. I can see it as well. My issue is the contract vs production. Everyone gets hurt. But he’s been hurt literally every year he’s been in the league. I’m not 100% sure what his contract demands are going to be, but a monster deal for him could actually have a monster Impact on this teams progress if the injury trend continues or gets worse. I also think it says a terrible message to our team. Shaq busted butt and got better every year, but instead of paying him we will give the money to this other guy who has more talent but hasn’t produced as good as shaq did for us. He’s more talented than anyone we have on the line. I can’t debate against his impact on a game when he shows up. For me anyways he’s a luxury signing. Teams like KC or even New Orleans of old can gamble like that because their offense is getting them to the playoffs. If clowney is hurt not too big of a deal Brees will just throw an extra 15 passes to keep them in the game. We don’t have that luxury.. yet. Costanzo I believe will only play for the colts. I read somewhere he stated he’ll retire if Indy doesn’t want him anymore.
  6. I understand that. I’m not downing his talent I have watched him play a bunch. What I’m saying is what makes him probably 30 million dollars better than Lawson? From what I am seeing (just by stats) shaq is racking up TFL and QB hits just like clowney this year and he wasn’t even starting. I do get clowney has that burst to make an impact play every so often that few others can do. But are those rare impact plays worth the contract and games he misses? I guess my point is I think the defense is better production wise in a 16 game season with a shaq and Murphy rotation than the few games you actually see a 100% clowney. And shaq (even with a new deal) and Murphy together still might cost less than clowney.
  7. They could always franchise tag him, let him and his agent seek a trade, trading team has to pay him. Jerk move but the smart business route And? It’s not news he’s ALWAYS hurt
  8. I don’t doubt his talent, or his ability to dominate occasionally. It’s how many games he doesn’t have any effort and completely disappears and how many games he’s banged up for playing at 50%. People worry Shaq played hard only cause it’s a contract year, but clowney only plays hard 3-4 games a year and wants top defensive end money. We kill Murphy on here cause he makes too much money for his production but clowney is going to cost double Murphy possibly even more and just had a year with less production
  9. I am nowhere near that confident. Guy has 3 sacks in his contract year in Seattle. Trent Murphy put up better numbers. Shaq has more everything than clowney had this year. And he’s going to want Mack kind of money for worse production than Trent Murphy and he’s extremely injury prone? I can’t see the love
  10. Wait you really want to sign that guy?
  11. Some of the stupid decisions Josh takes heat for are the same things everyone loves Mahomes for. The wild throws across their body running to the right and throwing over the middle. Mahomes throws some dumb passes that don’t always work too. I watched him throw one across his body over the middle against the raiders and it was an easy pick the guy dropped. Some of Mahomes weird flips of the ball when under pressure could just as easily be fumbles. But... they did work so he’s praised where Allen’s have not so it’s fair to throw some shade his way. Mahomes is playing at a higher level in a better passing scheme so don’t take it as I’m putting Allen on the same tier right now. It’s a young guy thing to try and force a play. And sometimes when it works it’s amazing. We could have Kyle Orton back there sliding after running 8 yards when we need 10 cause he’s scared to be hit. Allen deserves his criticism but we shouldn’t pretend like other quarterbacks don’t do some of those scratch your head kind of plays. Their games are just more polished and they’ve established themselves where Allen has not yet.
  12. All valid points. I do take issue with all this smurf talk though. Duke was peppered in targets as our “big receiver” but the board is becoming fixated on this smurf thing. Kansas City is running with shorter receivers in the same fashion. Watkins is what like 6’ 6’1? He’s the biggest receiver. They do their damage with the small speedy guys. I guess we can count kelce but we also use Knox. Tyreek Hill is obviously a freak athlete and smoke isn’t on the same level but they are proving this theory that small guys can’t get open. The rams don’t use big guys. Kupp is 6’2 ish but woods and cooks are shorter guys. Have to stop putting blame on the size of the personnel and chalk it up to execution and scheme. The biggest factor I have noticed in Mahomes vs Allen and the shorter receivers is Mahomes best success on deep balls is generally a really really long curl route. A lot of his long touchdowns are 35 yard bombs that are almost a punt and his receiver comes back to the ball, makes a move and is off to the races. I have not watched a lot of deep balls in stride.
  13. What’s with the “your QB” stuff. are you a buffalo bills fan? Cause that makes him your QB too right? Good or bad he’s here. Why not cheer for him and enjoy the games instead of being so negative? Who cares if people laugh or the media thinks the team is a joke or whatever? We’re fans of the buffalo bills and we enjoy watching them play and they give us grey hairs and sometimes mini heart attacks and of course heartbreak. If people don’t enjoy it and are miserable and hate stuff involving the team and players why even watch? I’m in Tennessee and they just beat the Pats to advance and virtually every single person I talk to at work would take Allen over Tannehill after watching the wildcard games. And Tannehill has been great for them in his small sample size. Say what you want he has his flaws but I don’t think anyone can say Allen is not an exciting player sometimes good and bad. Not many players in this league can literally put people who aren’t even bills fans on the edge of their seat with wow plays good and bad. It seems like some of you guys just want to argue or be negative because people don’t want to sink down into the negativity. Glass half full guys are a lot of fun on here and have a good time Glass half empty guys are obviously not so fun because people don’t agree with them. They tend to know the future already that Allen is not going to get better, or the coach won’t adjust for those who hate him or whatever their current agenda is they need to bash over and over. There is not a person on this board who thinks Allen is playing MVP football. I don’t think there’s a single person who doesn’t think he has tons to work on his game. But why harp on negatives all day long? What fun is that? You keep trying to prove a point and call people apologists like you are up on some high horse spitting knowledge on this board that people are unaware of. FYI people know the flaws in Allen’s game. They just don’t want to be a miserable douche over it and repeat the same stuff over and over. They want the quarterback to succeed cause ya know that’s what fans do when they want their team to win games.
  14. What? Are we back to more of this? We draft guys. Develop them. When they are about to peak let them leave in free agency and get nothing for it. Then we cry they are great for their next team and cry that the rookie we drafted to replace them is a rookie and may struggle while he learns. At some point you HAVE to start paying the players you draft. This isn’t a holdout situation or a diva being greedy. Guy has balled out and busted butt here and is arguably the face of our defense and gameplanned for by every team we face. You reward players like that and pay them.
  15. Probably the same person. I think I counted 3 today who just post the same thing in every thread about mcdermott and Allen and all the reasons why they suck. But they cannot and will not even consider any valid points made to say they do not. They must have bad wives or partners and just need some attention in life since they don’t get it at home. I have yet to see a valid debate from any of the 3 just their forced opinions I have no clue why you quoted me to post that but ok buddy.
  16. Yeah I was extremely angry over that. That defense was going all out for him. I was so angry to end up with friggen Rex Ryan and let Schwartz just walk away
  17. Don’t bother with that guy. He’s got an agenda and he’s the smartest guy in the room. Just doesn’t like the coach and he’s gonna be on here non stop telling everyone how dumb they are cause he doesn’t like “mcdummy” doesn’t matter what anyone says he has his agenda and he’s sticking to it. you can always spot the immature haters and trolls when they use little kid nicknames in reference to players and coaches in a negative way.
  18. Lot of talk of signing AJ Green or Amari Cooper and they’d both cost more of the cap and no guarantee you get them albeit no draft pick involved. I’d take Diggs right now over just about anyone available at pick 22. Basically pay a little more for 4 years of production. But it’s almost guaranteed production versus hoping the rookie produces
  19. Diggs and Evans are already signed up until 2024. No contract needed if they’re traded here. It’s still a long shot but something I’m sure they’ll look into with all teams
  20. I’m not against it if they think they’re getting a real game changer but in that post I was suggesting more offering that 1st to trade for an impact guy. I would offer our first for maybe Stefon Diggs (Vikings cap issues) Mike Evans (Godwin has emerged and they’re undecided on Winston) I would rather trade the 1st for a proven guy with some years left than draft a receiver in the 20’s hoping he hits and produces year one. Of course it could take more picks or they may not be available but it wouldn’t hurt Beane to try and float that first out there. There could be a team desperate to move up for a quarterback that would like our 1st as ammo to move.
  21. Just my opinion but I don’t think his numbers look much different if we are just talking strictly stats. The numbers/throws were there this year with our current weapons. It’s all about the execution. A 6’4 guy isn’t making a big difference. Not that he can’t just he more than likely wouldn’t have. And that’s not saying we don’t need that type of receiver either. Allen misses reads/throws Receivers dropped critical passes at times Offensive line occasionally just completely falls apart penalties. Daboll making us scratch our heads a ton These things are all drive killers. I will say until my grave this season was all about rhythm and sustaining drives. Maybe the 6’4 guy helps in some of those areas, but maybe the 6’4 rookie adds into those mistakes as well. The plays were out there to be made and it was really a perfect storm of mishaps on a team learning to play together. Our struggles are all sustaining drives. Remove even 20% of those issues mentioned above and the stats are drastically improved for Allen. Another offseason of these guys working together paired with added talent we should see a major spike in pass game stats come next season as long as Allen continues his upward trend. Another thing to factor in is we don’t have an effective screen game which equals a lot of stats for other quarterbacks and we also do not run a lot of short passing routes to running backs which is also big in other offenses and equals a lot of 4-7 yard passes. We can add all the stuff we want but the basics need to be fixed to be truly effective. I would much rather see discussions about fixing the existing issues as opposed to 20/20 hindsight of drafting metcalf after his big game yesterday. Russel Wilson had a big game too and we don’t have any TJ Graham threads yet. And KC didn’t add any 6’4 athletic freaks for Mahomes unless were talking the 2 big Watkins games a year. They run speedy smurfs and have a couple guys around 6’
  22. He’s a good coach. Great career. Im not surprised they moved on though. Given their personnel I expect they’re looking at more of traditional 4-3 for next year as the reason to move on as opposed to him not being effective.
  23. If Brady is back I can see the Pats game one in prime time maybe the earlier Monday night game. They’ll want to showcase he still has it against a top defense from a year ago.
  24. No way.. Imagine what Sean Payton would do with a supersized Taysum Hill!!! Tight end, running back, quarterback, special teams gunner.. Think big here.
  25. I don’t disagree. But they have lots of options. They could trade out of 5, land a monster haul, trade for Cam to cover the offensive line issues temporarily and still fill tons of holes and possibly even be in the running to trade up for a quarterback the following year. Million ways to go. But you’re right if they feel as strongly as you do that he’s a can’t miss quarterback they’ll pull the trigger without a doubt. What if Cinci passes on Burrough and takes him at 1? They ride dalton another year while redshirting Tua. Crazy crazy stuff. Lol I’m just rooting for exciting fun news instead of Antonio brown Instagram all offseason and 24/7 where is Brady going talk
