Fair take, but they didn’t pay star that much for his on field production IMO. I know lots use the “he’s not meant to have stats just clog things up” kind of argument, which I kinda understand. But I think they paid him that big money cause he was the one guy on defense they wanted to come in and set the tone for the locker room. Same reason we trotted out Tolbert when we knew he was washed up. It’s been super obvious Mcdermott wants his locker room a certain way and he will keep players for that specific reason despite what they actually accomplish on the field. I can see no other reason for them to overpay Star that much when he couldn’t of had that big of a market and it really only makes sense that they wanted to start “the process” ?? in the locker room with him. Had to throw that in. Just my opinion once again but “the process” was for season one only. Setting the tone for what they wanted in the locker room. The culture of the team. Moving out players and bringing others in they were familiar with. “the process” is used as more of a silly excuse by us posters now. They have the culture they wanted, the players they wanted, they can add whoever they want now the locker room knows what’s up and should keep anyone in line with what they want done and how they want it done.

I would not be happy to not add talent to the pass rush for next season. I don’t mind if they throw a big contract at someone they feel can make a legitimate impact. For me, it’s just not clowney. I don’t want to trot Lawson and Murphy back out next year without adding anyone I was only comparing their production together vs clowneys. He can make these huge impact plays rarely that show how elite he can be. It’s just too rare those plays happen for the contract he’ll receive. And he always seems to be on the injury report and manages to play through but it’s not that elite level he’s capable of. Lot of things can happen before we actually hit free agency though. Im watching Minnesota to see what happens with Everson griffin and Xavier Rhodes and Stefon diggs is my madden trade target ?. I think this year maybe more so than others is a big trade year. The trend for trades seems to be moving up yearly with bigger and bigger names moving around. With our current roster and amount of draft picks I think Beane could work his magic and land us an elite player already under contract for our first round pick and maybe some extra compensation added in. One thing I think everyone can agree on is we need those 2-3 impact players at pass rush and receiver, and then the other spots needing upgrades as well in backup RB, offensive line rather it’s guard or RT depending on Spain and Ford, possible tight end some want hooper if he’s available, starting corner opposite Tre, depending on who you talk to. I don’t count Loraxs replacement cause he did a few different things and were not getting one player to do what he did probably. I mentioned once before I was hoping Vosean would play well and earn some time, and he could spell Edmunds in the middle and they could move Edmunds around more similar to Alexander.

I’m not expecting them to be frugal with the money. They can pay for production that’s no issue. I would be ok with keeping Lawson as our big rotation player for both end spots and signing Yannick. I’m not a big fan of Yannick but having him, Lawson and Hughes should definitely provide a nice pass rush.
-
Given Seattle just gave up assets to get him and the lip service they are all giving on him wanting to be back and them wanting him back he should stay there. I expect Beane to explore all options. But I don’t expect him to be highest bidder on the highest contracts given this year. I will leave my opinions on clowney out of this but from a business standpoint he’s a terrible investment on a big contract. We have money to spend but there’s no reason to dump it into bad contracts. They could sign 3 good players for the price of clowney. The debate is we need impact playmakers, clowney is an impact player, but only for 4-5 games a year if you’re lucky. Not everyone agrees but I think there’s much better production in the lawson/Murphy combo over clowney

Yes we need help but why 1st Round WR's scare me
Rc2catch replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’d rather trade the first for a proven receiver, and also sign one in free agency. I don’t care how they do it as long as they add at least 2 capable receivers to the group. One proven and one with potential -
I would expect him to take a year off, heal up and relax. If Hines Ward can coach and for the Jets no less kuechly can probably latch on anywhere he feels is his best chance to progress and climb the tree. Everyone has a shot, but Rivera has to be the front runner. His players mostly loved him.

I would guess they don’t run much, the other guys are better straight line runners, and maybe they’re better pass blockers. I don’t think mccoy was ever meant to be more than depth for them. It’s not like they need to run the ball with running backs. Jet sweep hill and hardmon all game and get Mahomes out there running around and who needs a running back

Running Backs A Dime a Dozen & Is It a Passing League ?
Rc2catch replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There’s only so many shanahans to go around. I can’t even think of a back who was not amazing in the zone blocking run scheme they use. If it was easy to do I’m sure more teams would copy. The offensive line doesn’t need to be high picks, they can run that scheme with most linemen after enough practice. It’s really impressive. -
I didn’t read 90+ pages of this, but his completion % means squat. Josh could easily bump that up 5% or higher by simply using his check downs. He almost never does. His love of the big play, and arm talent keeps him focused beyond 20 yards. This is why he’s a league leader in time spent holding the ball, why he takes more sacks and pressures. Sometimes you just have to settle. Same philosophy we were always mad at McCoy. Don’t dance and lose 2 just go forward and get the 2 yards and move to the next play. I can’t even tell you how many times I rewinded to see singletary and yes Gore wide open in the flat on a check down without a defender in sight. Maybe some of those are 3-4 yards and maybe some break for 20+ but it’s better than a 12 yard laser bouncing off someone’s hands or two feet above their head. I really believe this is the entire key for Allen to make the next step. I agree with a lot of people on here we need some of our guys to step up and make some of these plays. We see tons of other teams and nobody name guys making really hard catches look routine. Sometimes we can’t even catch the wide open pass let alone a pass with any kind of traffic around. All of these things play major roles. Keeping momentum on offense, Allen keeping a rhythm as a passer, and keeping the defense fresh on the sidelines. Allen can boost his % and also keep the offense in a flow by making these short check downs sometimes. I love the big play, love the mentality he has that he can make any throw and get chunk yards, but the entire offense is better off taking the easy yards sometimes. I hope it’s a big point of emphasis for them this season. Much easier to have great footwork on short fast routes when you do the same thing and the drop back is almost always the same than when you’re moving constantly and have to position your feet from lots of different angles.

I still don’t want to hear the argument. Mahomes is good. Mahomes might be great. Im still never going to be sold until either Andy Reid retires, or they lose some playmakers. It’s easy to say he’s so great when his setup is amazing. Credit to him and where it’s due he has performed when called upon. But come on, Andy Reid has always made his quarterbacks look amazing, his scheme is always designed to utilize his playmakers. Line up Hill, Watkins and Hardmon in trips on one side, Kelce on his own on the other side, everyone runs crossing routes and the receivers try to set picks (in a smart way not actually touching defenders just re routing them) to get Kelce open. Who is covering that? You got 4 seconds to hit Mahomes or someone is going to be wide open everytime. Mahomes would of done well here, but he’s not throwing 5000 yards and 50tds good here. The sting is that for two years he’s been better than Allen. That’s credit to Reid and Mahomes. Allen might never give us stats like Mahomes has put up, but it’s been two years and there’s a lot of football left to play. I would never be sold on him being a generational talent after two seasons with healthy weapons. Let me see a season with Kelce on IR and if he still is unstoppable I will gladly eat my crow pie.

Double down on defense and O-line
Rc2catch replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There’s a lot of ways to win in this league. Tennessee could of beaten KC but you can’t exactly expect Tannehill to be a big game quarterback. Once KC got up it was game over. KC has a lethal passing attack, SF has a lethal run game. All about balance between offense and defense and finding the right rhythm at the right time. I’m not a big conspiracy theorist with the refs but they play a big factor in a lot of this. I thought KC was able to get away with some serious holding starting in the second quarter, Mahomes was moving all over and there was some serious holding going on. KC probably still outguns them in the end but it was pretty blatant they were allowing it. You don’t have to have a top notch offense to win, I think SF and Ten showed us that. And having that top notch offense doesn’t always mean success in the playoffs. Bal and the saints showed that as well. The Bills should continue building their vision of this team, what they think will be successful. We can debate all day what we want to see and question what they do but they have shown they are not going to mimic others. That’s not a bad thing. So far. -

I would thoroughly enjoy Devante Adams taking him to school this game. -

Does anyone believe the 49ers win this game? NFL 100, rematch of super bowl 1. Pretty sure after watching the first game where this one is headed. -

I wonder if Ram fans feel that way. Could of won the super bowl and made the playoffs this year with that impact difference maker out there -

Phillip Rivers has moved away from San Diego to Florida
Rc2catch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the colts line is better, but not sure costanzo is coming back. Colts is absolutely the better situation if they want him. They have the money too for sure. But marrones leash has to be really short and he must be desperate is honestly the only reason I’d link rivers there. -

Rc2catch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m surprised we’re not linking him to Jacksonville. Rivers isn’t really in a position to demand a winning team after the season he just had. I can see the Jags chasing their tail again paying him a monster 2 year deal to save dougs job. Indy makes sense just from the standpoint they are built to win right now. Tampa I guess, not sure he’s better than Winston there right now. Dolphins would be silly after what Fitz just did for them. I don’t know that he can really make any kind of impact, I think he’s done. He looked rough this season. -

Ain’t that the truth. Titans win, solid run game with solid defense=fun offseason chats. Chiefs win, omg we could of had mahomes, omg we need an offensive coach, omg we traded our best player McCoy to them, Sammy Watkins is a legit #1 and we got rid of him.. ??????? Chiefs win will ruin this place for months of terrible threads -
So who is everyone rooting for tomorrow?
Rc2catch replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would prefer Tennessee Vs Green Bay. I like the underdog titans and “small market” Green Bay. I’m a big Derrick henry fan and also like devante Adams I just don’t like the chiefs. I like Kelce but I really don’t like anyone else on their team. I don’t really like any 49er players either. -
Off-season: Expected and Surprise Cuts
Rc2catch replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well no.. By the time we sign all the top free agents available that 90 million will be gone we have to cut immediately or won’t get all the top guys. Beane will be asleep at the wheel -
Off-season: Expected and Surprise Cuts
Rc2catch replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sloppy how? You want to cut 6-7 guys and create more holes? How many free agents you looking to sign? How many rookies can contribute immediately? Would it not be wiser to sign your free agents, then draft, then pick up any scraps you want and invite them to camp? Then, if the players you’ve acquired prove themselves you can cut people. Why on earth would we cut all these guys when we don’t even need the money to sign free agents? Who are you bringing in to replace them? -

Why do you have to cut them to upgrade the roster? There’s 90 million in cap space.
