Todd Gurley trade talk from one reporter
Rc2catch replied to Rc2catch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That’s twice you’ve said no thanks, we get it, but the whole point of this thread wasn’t about Gurley or his production. Or backup running back options. It was simply if the contract was worth the possible compensation paired with it. And how desperate they may be to move him. Rather they paired another player with Gurley or a possible high draft pick to get someone to take the contract off their hands. Obviously nobody wants a 10+ million dollar backup running back who may have bum wheels. They theoretically could just inactive him like they did Yeldon. Obviously stupid, unless the compensation was over the top. -

I’m not entirely sure his knees are toast. But, he is not the same back he was two years ago. He’s no longer a special elite kind of back more than likely. I mentioned earlier losing Sullivan and Saffold killed their team and definitely their run game. The other backs on the team averaged the same YPC. And another big drop off was the passing game there to running backs. They didn’t have many completions at all to backs compared to years past. -
To a certain extent sure. But at this point Allen, Milano, Poyer and Hyde and maybe even smoke and Dawkins etc etc have got to set the tone for the locker room. Even new guys like Feliciano. I can’t see someone loafing it in practice or talking silly and one of those guys not putting them in their place. Let’s use Bosa as example since he was discussed as not a “process guy” earlier in this thread. If he was giving half effort during practice or in a game or just running his mouth I can’t see our players not putting him in check. Even if we break it down as positional groups in the film rooms I have to believe that guys like Star and Jerry set the tone for this kind of stuff. Every team needs their leaders, but for me anyways “the process” and “he’s not a process guy” stuff is long gone. They reshaped the entire team in guys who share a like mindedness with this staff. They have the culture they wanted so they can add guys who may be a little questionable on the character side now to this locker room without making it toxic.

Yeah the process is over. Leaders are in place, they have the core they wanted. Anyone gets out of line they have the players to put them in check.

I think someone said earlier it was essentially a 2 year 22 million dollar contract to bring him here. I don’t know how correct that is I’m no capologist. It’s really only worth it if you can get something big packaged with him. In my crazy head I’m thinking Gurley and maybe a 1st rounder from LA, and buffalo just sends them like a 4th round pick and maybe a backup offensive lineman or something insignificant. In that kind of trade Gurley is really irrelevant. If he can play at a decent level 10 touches a game that’s just an added bonus. It’s just the compensation you are looking at. We can take the cap on no problem whatsoever and gain a rookie contract to pair with it. And if you fleece them for a first you cut Gurley after year two but still have that cost controlled first round pick for years to come at a crucial time when we actually need to spend a good portion of the cap. -
I like that market much better than the current free agent market.

In the end I’ve always said it’s just weapons. Kansas City shows that “smurfs” are just fine if they get separation and have a good offensive scheme. Watkins I think is the tallest guy at 6’1, and Kelce of course is the tallest. Knox has some height and similar traits to Kelce although obviously not as polished or good as of now. I don’t care about size or having a prototypical #1 guy you just need 4 possibly 5 weapons on your offense between the backs, receivers and tight ends. Similar to the NBA the game is going away from the tall go up and get it guys

I feel like it always stalls right before my pick ? I have to head to bed so I don’t want to hold everyone up. I am going to go ahead and post my draft pick. If that’s who the cardinals gm @Mark Vader wants please give my pick to someone who is on and active and I’ll delete this when I get up. If that’s not the cardinals pick then I’ll keep mine and please tag the next team up the Jags. With the 41st pick of the 2020 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns select... Jordan Elliot, DT from Missouri. Elliott is one of the prospects that we’ve been banging the table for here at PFF for quite some time. The reason is fairly obvious: no defensive tackle graded higher in the FBS last season. Also, no defensive tackle graded higher in SEC play last season. Considering the top-four on our defensive tackle rankings all come from the SEC, that’s no small feat. Elliott finished with grades of 91.1 in both run defense and as a pass-rusher. Elliott checks the size, length, strength, and athleticism boxes you want at the position, although not necessarily to the degree that the men above him on this list do. He made his presence felt from pretty much every alignment you could think of this past season and is versatile enough for any sort of front you want to play. Teams will no doubt be worried about his one-year wonder status. Elliott had played all of 484 snaps in his career prior to this season. We saw this dominance kick in toward the end of 2018 though when he put up grades of 90.8 (Tennessee) and 96.2 (Arkansas) in the last two games of the regular season. Yeah I stole that summary ? But with our earlier pick drafting Delpit and now adding Elliot we should field a defense that has potential to rank in the top 5. Of course in real life hopefully Cleveland seriously addressed their offensive line in free agency for this to actually be effective.

I hate you.. lol good pick for them.

Chiefs need a quarterback ? get it done

I don’t like giving up the picks to move up, BUT in this situation you’re 100% correct. If they identify a player as you did that you feel is can’t miss and a game changing elite talent you go get him. We have good players. We are lacking in the elite category. If that receiver hits and turns out elite it’s a genius trade. If he busts its possibly a future firing. GM’s take these shots all the time, you have to try.

Jags unlikely to allow Yannick Ngakoue to test FA

I hope they do away with it in the next CBA. It’s a killer for some players, and it’s horrible press for everyone when these guys hold out or force trades. Negative press that the teams don’t need and the league doesn’t want. If they keep it I would rather see if modified. Maybe call it the temporary tag. Teams can temp tag a player for an extended period to negotiate a contract or facilitate a trade. If no deal is reached in that period player becomes a free agent. I’m sure there are pros and cons of doing it that way but the current tag is a hot mess every offseason -
Should Buffalo Trade for Alshon Jeffrey
Rc2catch replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have always like Alshon even in college, I can’t see any real scenario philly would ship him out though unless it was an extremely favorable trade to them. As mentioned earlier it makes no financial sense and their depth is putrid -
We’re gonna end up with 2 picks for the whole draft. Reed83 better be killing free agency this year

Todd Gurley trade talk from one reporter
Rc2catch replied to Rc2catch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All depends, it really only works out good for us if we could steal a 1st rounder from them. Eat 2 years of an ugly contract but gain 5 years cost controlled on a rookie first rounder. Those extra 3 years of a first round rookie play in nicely with our contract extensions. I would never really suggest acquiring Gurley outright, it’s just about how bad LA would want that contract gone. The compensation added would have to be extreme -
If we do a 2nd round my factory of sadness may need to trade down for an extra second ?

I think that was the article. I only caught the Gurley part on rotoworld cause my nephew sent it to me this morning about the draft pick compensation possibly having to be added in order to move the contract -

No, their offensive line looked great those years. They are the reason Gurley and Goff both got paid big money. Losing Sullivan and Saffold hurt them really bad -
My goal was to mess up the norm a little for our draft and break the usual mock cycle. At his size if he tests really good he may jump in the top 20 later on. I didn’t do a ton of homework just seen he was kinda banged up this year. I considered the Alabama guy too

It wasn’t meant so much for Gurley I never liked him from the start, more so what can you get attached to the trade if you take his contract? Ideally you wouldn’t really be counting on Gurleys production so you’d continue conducting business as usual. -
It would be a typical browns move to take the second best safety 20 picks before the top rated one ?? maybe I can actually work there
