  1. As it should be, if he gets extra money that doesn’t impact our ability to sign other players, who cares? Or unless I’m mistaken and his cap hit wasn’t 6.4 this last season?
  2. Is it still bad judgement if he never sees the big money? He made 6.4m last year, he hasn’t made the big numbers yet in his contract.
  3. And many of us recall Beane alluding to details that he withheld from the team about that night, and was released after.
  4. Right, I get SOME contracts we have our hands tied. Knox’ isn’t one of them. We have one thread where fans are convinced we can work with Diggs extension, which is in year 1 and has 70 in guarantees. However, Knox’s deal of significantly less value? Nope, concrete. He’s still going to get plenty of snaps as in his traditional inline TE role as Kincaid plays off the line A LOT. It’s not a stretch to say he can still be a 40-50 catch guys.
  5. Not really, Kincaid played like 70% of his snaps off the line and in the slot. Knox will get plenty of snaps as the in line TE.
  6. Just started book 5 of the Dark Tower series
  7. Interesting, they already have a good punter.
  8. But arguing about a contract is dumb, because there is always something the team can do to adjust the money.
  9. In the 7 games after his injury, Knox posted 10 catches (11 targets) 97 yards, 2 TDs 1 drop. 9 first downs. Post injury Dawson Knox was absolutely fine.
  10. He can still easily get 3-5 targets a game. 51 to 85 targets a season. He caught 61% of his passes last year, 61% of 85 targets is 51 catches. Thats a career high, and puts him in the top half if TEs statically. There is a path for production in this offense for Knox, without taking anything away from Kincaid and Shakir.
  11. It’s easy to sit here and think about Knox’ 2023 season, look at his 2024 cap hit, and complain. If you actually look at the 20 top paid TEs for next season, it looks nearly random. Dawson Knox is far from the only ‘bad contract.’ I think everyone on this MB would feel better if Knox was 17-20th highest paid TE in the NFL. He would definitely be better than most of the TE’s he’d be neighbored around. 17-20 TE money is still 8.5-9m per year range, that’s just a 5m pay cut, totally do-able. I’d like to see them restructure this year to lower the cap hit, making larger commitments to 2025. If 2024 is another bust for Knox, eat your medicine and move on, they can still save some money. If Knox has a nice rebound season as a still featured TE1b, then you can extend his contract past 2025, spreading those commitments out again.
  12. Last season he was the 15th highest paid TE at 6.3, unfortunately he dealt with injuries all season. Next year he’s slated to be 5th at 14.3m but that ranking drops after FA and I’m sure he restructures. A 4m pay decrease drops him into the 13-15 range, which was fair for a starting TE.
  13. I’m no cap expert, but yes I believe we can lower his cap hit in 2024, which increases his guarantees for 2025. I may be wrong though.
  14. He forced his way on to micromanage the whole NFL 😁
  15. Knox contract looks bad on the surface, but the nitty gritty details leave some room for flexibility. We can restructure this season, which basically guarantees next year, and save some cash. He’s a solid #1, great #2 TE. He isn’t a top end paid TE, although his pay for a #2 (or 1B) is high. TE1 money wise, he is middle of the pack.
  16. Oh damn good call, I didn’t realize he’s an ERFA. He’ll be back with the Giants.
  17. Offense wise we are in low key good shape. I’d like to see David Edwards back, but I can see him getting a chance to start. I don’t think we will have an issue replacing the Fat TE position. #2 RBs are easy to find, he’ll need to be a good pass blocker. Not worried. #2 QBs typically suck, I can see it being Kyle Allen or Sam Darnold. Not worrried. Outside WR, like everyone else, give me a first round pick. Sign a vet who can handle the WR4 *cough* Isaiah Hodgins *cough* We have a bunch of WR 5/6 candidates who were on the PS last year that can play special teams.
  18. No he wasn’t, his last 4-5 appearances he was pretty solid IMO. It’s been talked about how vastly different his role with Buffalo was compared to what he was asked to do in Seattle. They could go a different route, but Poona would be pretty cheap to bring back. I’d bring him in over Settle or Phillips. Pay cut, not cut cut.
  19. You do know that it won’t take much to break even, let alone have positive cap space, right? - Restructure Allen (Guaranteed to happen) - Extend Dawkins, Douglas, Johnson (All nearly guaranteed to happen) - Oliver/Milano/Knox restructure (safe bets) - Morse/White/Hardy pay cuts (safe bets) Almost no reason to stress about the cap. They can’t go out and get a 20m per guy, but theyll be able to get their 1.7m FAs they love and maybe a 2nd wave FA vet signing.
  20. I think: - Cam Lewis is back to complete for the FS job - Poona Ford is back on a slight pay bump from last season, will actually be on the active roster, starter if Jones does not return - Daquan Jones is back if he will take a deal that reflects a player in his early 30’s coming off a season mostly lost to injury. - Ty Dodson tests the market, ultimately returns on a 1 year deal - TM44 returns on a 1 year deal - Dane Jackson returns - Shaq Lawson returns in August - AJE leaves to start elsewhere - Floyd leaves to get paid elsewhere - Hyde ‘retires’
  21. To piggy back off this, the best, most consistent players we have on defense were not big FAs or first/second round picks. Milano - R5 Bernard - R3 Hyde - Not a top tier FA Poyer - Wasn’t even considered a good player when we signed him. Jones - Solid, but not a top tier FA Benford - R6 Douglas - Really struggled early in his career, R3 pick traded. Dodson - UDFA Johnson - R4 Epenesa - R2 Ed looked good last year, but took 2-3 years to develop. Groot looks good. Edmunds took 2-3 years to develop into a game manager MLB.
