5 QBs, only 3 will be retained.
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope Cardale comes in and has a great camp. I haven't read any stories about his offseason conditioning or how far he came last year in the Playbook, but I am more excited about him than I am about Tyrod or Nate Peterman. -
The problem with Whaley was that he had no over arching theory on how to build this team. For awhile he ran around saying "Big Wins" in the NFL, he was "All In" on EJ as so on. Therefore he was a weak GM that was willing to stand aside and let Coaches dictate to him what defense they were going to run and what players to obtain. That's what I saw anyways. He was asked point blank at this years Year End Press Conference, what is your plan on how to build a team, his answer was find a Coach and "get talent". So when you see the Ravens draft Humphrey and Williams, that's a Ravens model, or the Patriots load up with agility players, that the Patriots. Whaley's model was to scab together offense pieces around weak backup level Quarterbacks. Again with the trading up and down, we always seemed lacking in draft capital, he had no idea about our cap situation (always deferring to Overdorf), the public speaking and getting caught in awkward statements (humans shouldn't play football, no idea why Rex was fired).

Why not us? 2017 Playoffs
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not? Tyrod is the QB The defense doesn't have the depth required -
Distrust. Pegula fell hard for Rex and let him run the show immediately (with Brandon involved). Now McDermott is running everything. He speaks in cliches just like Jauron and Marrone used to. Also you have to look at time frame. We are going to stink for at least two more years. By then Kyle Williams will be gone, Glenn will about 30, McCoy will be 30-31, and Watkins may or may not be here. Going on our 3rd year with Tyrod.

Grade the 2017 Buffalo Bills draft
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Real McClappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree on all counts. Only three WRs were off the board at the time of the trade up and all of them went before #10. I thought it was a useless trade up, because Jones profiles as a possession WR with average physical traits. We again kicked the can down the road at QB, and our 9-11th pick next year, combined with KCs 23rd pick is not going to be enough to get to #1 overall to take Darnold or Rosen. The Bills as an organization tend to get stuck on backup QBs. Three years on Trent, three years on Fitzpatrick, going on three with Tyrod. We'll see, but this team looks like the same 6-7 win team next year. Also they passed on DT again and Kyle is most certainly coming to the end. -

This is a 6 win team still, gaining no ground on the rest of the AFC. -
GM Doug Whaley has been fired
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Funny how all those reports that were decried as "made up", are all true. People love to hate Sullivan, but once again him and Gleason were 100% right. But the same radio people will blindly start trumpeting the Bills horn and the same fans will write rosey pictures about how the Bills are doing everything right. Don't worry McDermott will have another cliche to spit out to make everyone feel better. The owners, some fans and some media may love McDermott, but I'm not buying it all. He sounds just like Dick Jauron and Doug Marrone when he talks. -

Yeah Joe because the career football guys have been so much better with a 7, 7, 7, 6, 4, 6, 6, 6, 9, 8, 7 wins since 2006. -

Sal sure buys it hook line and sinker, and I'm sure John Murphy and his sidecar will push the agenda. -

McD's Off the field Obsession
Straight Hucklebuck replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sold on Sean the Wrestler at all. In fact he sound a lot like Jauron and Marrone actually. Uses the exact same phrases as they did, with an obsession on Special Teams and working hard. -

It's always mean Jerry Sullivan "making stuff up". Pegula saying he never knows "where these reports come from". -

This is what you get when you let Russ Brandon and Ralph decide on GM. Back in 2010 they "scanned a list of names" and settled on two in house candidates: Nix and John Guy. They looked down the hall for a GM. And Nix set up his succession plan by hiring Whaley. -

Funny that once again all the reports were true. These organizations all deny them, but at the end of the day Rex gets fired, Whaley gets fired, the Sabres FO is being flipped on they are going on their 4th Coach already of the Pegula era. All the talk of disfuction has been 100% spot on. -

I get this. The Bills got 0 game changers from this draft. The best the fans can hope for is average NFL starters. -

I am not arguing if Rex deserved to be fired, but for the Pegula's to leave their Coach hanging in the wind for 3 weeks without saying anything showed a little bit. So far it doesn't seem like much fun to work in a Pegula organization. -

Both organizations under Pegula are hard to root for. The way they left Rex out to dry, Pegula making an "executive decision", extending Murray then firing him, LaFontaine quitting, undercutting - the rumors and leaks are still flying. -

I think if Peterman can become the Bills backup he will have beat the odds and maximized his talent, let alone start. -

Ahh yes, we're back to the ole QB competition after one season off. Where 3 backup caliber QBs duke it out on a 6 win football team. -

Good. This team has been rudderless going back to Modrak and Russ Brandon. Nix was picked after Ralph and Russ "scanned a list of names" and then Nix brought Whaley to town. The team stinks. -

This is no better than a C draft. We replaced what we lost in FA with rookies. Zach Brown or Matt Milano, Robert Woods or Zay Jones, Gilmore or White? We did not get any better and you have to question if the trade ups were even necessary. They seemed like panic moves. -

Straight Hucklebuck replied to Real McClappy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. I think the trade ups were forced. Our situational drafting strategy made no sense. We again passed on QB when only one was off the board, traded up when only 3 WRs were gone, passsd on DLine again. We did not get better. This is a 6 win team.
